Drury will go into Wednesday and take one last run at Copp. I bet he signs that day. Strome probably will wait because he desperately wants to stay. If that fails, I can see Drury circling back on Miller.

So if the remaining Shesty contract represents their window, the next 3 years, and they need to go all in during that time, where does that leave them when his contract ends?

Or to put it another way, how can they have it both ways where they have this window, and also slam that window shut by extending him after this current contract?

If they make the choice to go all in during these next 3 years, which I would understand, then they can't extend him to some crazy expensive contract in 3 years and have both of those things make sense.
Come on...he is going to be a top 5 goalie EVER............he stays....we figure it out...IGOR'S BETTER...chant started in section 213

FWIW, Corey Pronman gave the NYR draft a B-.

“The Rangers didn’t have many high picks but the few they had I liked what they did. I think both Adam Sykora and Bryce McConell-Barker have legit chances to become NHL players, even if likely at the bottom of a lineup”

At what cost for one season? No. Thank. You. He's going to cost a 1st in next years draft at the very least and more if they're retaining salary.
At a certain point, you need to go for it. Some here are sadly more comfortable with 5 seasons in a row of 1st and 2nd round exits as long as we build up our prospect pool. Its far better to have 3 seasons in a row where you can legitimately compete for a cup at the expense of prospects and picks. I mean look at guys like kevin hayes, adam fox and zac jones. We literally build our prospect pool by having every college kid wanting to play for us, were talking kids who are former first rounders or first round talent

I agree on not wanting Kane, but do you really think he’ll cost that much? Look at what Chicago just got for DeBrincat and Dach.

I do because of the salary retention. It's a big hit (5M+). 1st + top prospect, IMHO.

I mean, based on similar production through this part of their careers, would you trade Kakko for a 1st an a 3rd? Kane is a much more accomplished and productive player than either of these two. Not even close. That being said, if I'm Chicago or NY, I don't make that trade.

Devil’s advocate - the lack of return for Dach is probably more a narrative on what the value is for Kakko, at this point
Even if he’s valued around the same (edit: as Dach), DeBrincat returned a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. So 1 year of Kane would return more than DeBrincat?

The two players that financially make the most sense - relative to talent and the opening at center are Scheifele and Toews at 50% retention. PLD is a near perfect fit as well but will most likely cost more (probably Kakko) in a trade - and require the bigger contract sooner.

Toews is probably the cheapest of all acquisitions cost wise - and fits our need for a more 2-way player who wins faceoffs.. If the Dolan does his background work and is willing to take whatever PR hit will come with Toews - he makes a lot of sense as far as being the type of alpha leader that this team is in desperate need of. A guy who Captained his team to 3 cups..the question is what's left in the tank.

Scheifele is the ultimate buy low as far as his talent level. If it wasn't for a down year he'd never be on the market - Offensively, his career compares very favorably to Mika and he'd have the potential to give the Rangers a true 1A/1B situation that teams would have a very difficult time shutting down. Winnipeg is going to hold out for as much as they can get - but his contract fits in near seamlessly - including the potential to extend if the cap goes up after 2 seasons and he's a fit. He does leave A LOT to be desired on the defensive end - but the team would be in a strong position to go heavy offense top-6 --- and create a full bottom-6 of checking and energy players.

PLD would have to hit the true sweet spot of taking a deal that works both now and in the future - If he's willing to extend right away in the 7/7.5 range - then a full offer of Chytil/Lundkvist and picks makes sense here -- though it would not be a shock to see WPG push for Kakko which would hurt.

Patty Kane seems like a pipe dream - sure the idea of him and Panarin scoring 120 points each is tantalizing... but doesn't seem actually conducive to the Rangers building a team that not only can win this year - but during the full window.

Florida will need to move a decent amount of money to pay some combination of Giroux, Marchment and/or Chiarot.

RangerBoy...Bennett adds stuff we can use and I think Turk would LOVE him . Was he drafted as a Center originally ? If so...does he possess enough skills to become a number 2 Center for us ?

I want Sam Bennett. I was listening the DFO Podcast last night with Frank. He reported Florida tried to do some things at the draft. Nothing happened. The Panthers are trying to re-sign Marchment and Chiarot. Marchment is looking for Verhaeghe money. $4.167M. No idea what Chiarot is looking for. You read they are still trying to keep Giroux. Florida has no cap space. Duclair will miss 1/2 the season with an Achilles injury. He makes $3M. They could Duclair put on LTIR but they will need to clear space to activate him when he is healthy. That is a temporary thing.

Florida doesn't have many cheap contracts to move. They don't have many assets remaining to attach to players. I guess Florida could buyout Hornqvist's expiring contract but that adds another $1,766,667 to their team for 23-24 when they need to re-sign Huberdeau and Weegar. Something has to give.

Florida can clear $4.425M for the next three seasons with a Bennett trade.
What do you think a realistic trade would look like?

But can Toews still play hockey?

Yes and yes

Personally, I'd do something like Lundkvist, + middling prospect need pick (whatever FL identifies as a need), + 2023 2nd.

I’m not sure the price will be that high. Maybe. Not many teams have both current and future cap space.

Does he have a NTC

Who are we trading Kane for? I’m not giving up anything of value for one season of Kane when we arent in our window.

Patrick Kane? Jonathan Toews? The playoff run made this place more delusional than the rebuild did.

What’s 1 year of either of them accomplishing when we trade a decent sized haul for them, most likely don’t win the cup, then lose them in free agency for nothing?

We're not in our window? We were in the EC final. Igor is signed to a good contract for the next few years. Mika, Panarin and Kreider aren't getting younger.

When the hell ARE we going to be in our window if not now?

Now, that doesn't mean I necessarily want Kane or any specific player, but to say this isn't the beginning of the window of Cup chances?

Someone is going to swoop in and take Bob off Florida’s hands right? lol

I like Bennett, he would be a shrewd move but I’m not confident Florida would move him

I think it has more to do with understanding who our maniacal owner is. He didn’t ship off our entire front office last year because he didn’t want to win, and win now. That was the first clear “we need to win now” move. And us getting to the ECF is only going to fuel that (perhaps misguided) thinking further.

I’d contend it’s naive not to think our owner is believing we’re in the window currently.

Again, not necessarily advocating for it. But it is what it is.

we're definitely in our window now but there are certainly gradations along a team's window and i think the question remains are we at that point where we're willing to spend our more valuable assets to poach expiring top notch rental players. Typically, that type of move is seen by teams that are in the middle of their window or nearing the end of their window. We just started ours. Thus, it's a complex issue.

I think at the very least, any idea that involves Patrick Kane needs to be automatically placed under the category of a TDL move. Yes, we had a great past year but our overachievement still warrants more information about our team's performance moving forward. We need to see how this team plays next season and then reevaluate if making an "end game" type of move is worthwhile. We may not fire on all cylinders next season and even have good confidence in a long post season run. Injuries can occur, chemistry can fall apart, some of our players may regress or other teams may end up surprising and then the landscape of our conference is already different.

A lot of unknowns and sometimes even "unknown unknowns". No way should we pull one of these "poach a top rental player" move now. It only happens if by the TDL, everything is looking very good for us. Otherwise, there's no point.

Don’t show this to Adam Hermanator.

But it is salary retention for 1 year and more importantly Kane has full control of where he goes. If he does say I will only go to the Rangers than what do you think Chicago gets? Kakko? No shot. A 1st, 2nd, and maybe a mid level prospect.

I don’t inherently disagree with this thought process, I just don’t think it’s the kind of thing Drury has in his game plan.
