Why would he want to go to Buffalo?

He's from there and they have reason to be optimistic that they're taking a step forward.

For all the hooting and hollering about how the Islanders were actually good in the 2nd half, Buffalo was better and actually played at a pace that would have gotten them into the playoffs.

I didn't know he was from there so that makes sense. They definitely were more competitive in the second half of the season and are a better team without the Eichel baggage.

Didn't Kravtsov play more LW than RW in the KHL? The very few times I saw Traktor's game, he was mostly on the left. He can play right too.
Some seasons he played more LW, some seasons he played more RW. He's a player who is completely comfortable playing either (and even center), he was drafted as a RW and is mostly referred to as a RW though

Also it’s beyond clear Drury doesn’t think Chytil can be a 2C, which if I’m Chytil I’m thinking “wtf do I have to do to get a shot?”

Get better hockey iq and better vision, two things you have at this point or you don't and that's why Drury isn't set on him being a 2c. He's gonna be a great 3c if everyone would stop trying to force a square peg in a round hole.

The three point line was around for two decades before it boomed. The entire geometry and patterns of the sport is going to change. Not a big deal....
But teams have known about cross crease passes being high percentage, not just known that this area exists. It’s talked about on broadcasts nearly every game, it’s not a secret. Teams emphasize trying to get those shots as is

Sports evolve. There used to be ground and pound, small ball and mid-range jumpers. Hockey is about to evolve. Just because it already exists doesn't mean there isn't room for a revolution.

Worst RW depth in the NHL, at least among playoff teams, but Kane wouldn't help us?

Of course he would.

It's a matter of cost/benefit. Would trading three key future pieces to increase the approximate odds of winning the cup next year from, say, 12 percent to 15 percent, be worth it? How much would that hurt each year in the second window?

Tampa was able to get McDonagh for pieces that didn't hurt that much, so I'm not saying there are no Kane trades I'd like.

But getting him for Lundkvist, Cuylle, and a 1st I don't think is gonna cut it. If we thought Miller was expensive this would be a whole other deal.

Some say he can even play D and has the potential to be a starting goalie ;)

The odds of Garand being anywhere close to Shesterkin are extremely low. The team will prioritize Igor like they did Hank. Look at the insane prices average to flat out bad goalies are going for right now. Having a guy like Igor is such a massive advantage.

And maybe Chytil hasn’t disappointed as a late 1st round pick, but he certainly hasn’t shown he’s a core piece in his 250 NHL games. I’m not giving him away but he’s definitely available

You are most likely correct with Garand but his progress the next few years will determine that (I don't like the saying "we shall see" it's a bygone NY trope that old men from prior generations who sit around the park playing chess say. We will all see because we all have sight).

If Garand is 2/3 or 3/4 as good as Shesty is, this is where things became interesting; it could be worth taking a slight downgrade in goaltending to have a stronger all around team and stay competitive.

Once again I'm not saying dump Shesterkin at all. He will 95% be resigned to a long-term deal, I'm just saying there was the argument that the large cap hit of Lundqvist hurt the depth and ultimately led to the rebuild.

Regarding Chytil and Kakko, there is the argument that at least before the 2012-13 lockout, most NHLers started at age 20-22 so not being instant top sixers could have something to do with it. Those guys are in that age group now. Patience is required.

Kravstov gets an incomplete because he's played like 20 NHL games.

If they want to pursue Kane, it would have to be for a move around the deadline, but he's probably getting moved before the season started.

We've seen time and time again that the teams with the best depth are the ones that are successful, and making a move for Kane now would cost a ton of assets to get him into an affordable price range, and we'd be running an absurdly top-heavy team. It won't be sustainable.

Find another C to bolster the depth and try to make another value trade for a young F. We were at our best with a fully balanced lineup.

Kane is a deadline addition and a luxury. The main focus now is 2C, backup G, PKing forward depth, vet 6-7D. In that exact order.

Bennett is a wonderful idea but don't stop there. Still need more depth. What about Verhage? Would Florida trade him with or instead of Bennett? I'm still on the train to look into Nic Roy/Kolesar/Bonino/Kuprai and I'll throw Joseph from Ottawa into the mix. Versatile players on the upswing in their mid 20s or short terms vets.

I'd also call up the Kings and evaluate what's up with their 800 center prospects.

Backup is easy. I'm fairly certain Charlie Lindgren/Greiss will want to come here. Sign Kinkaid as insurance to split time with Garand. Lindblom in the ECHL.

Reactions: Go Rangers
This is a bad take sir
It's not really a take. He's just my favorite Rangers coach post-lockout. People are welcome to have their own favorites. Renney was probably the only genuinely likeable and underappreciated head coaches the Rangers had since I started watching in the early 90s. I like what he did for the team coming out of the lockout and the dark ages. He brought respect and competitive hockey back to NYC. He wanted the team to work hard and be tenacious. They were. Some of the most fun I've had watching the Rangers the last 30 years was during the Renney era.

Yea I'm not convinced he'll be nearly as expensive as everyone thinks.

Renney is an unsung hero in Rangers history. Good coach. What he did with that group worked.

I remember watching News 12 the eve of the 2005-06 season and they showed a clip of Jagr saying they'll make the playoffs. The reporters (all of them not only the sports guy) started laughing and giving him the "awwww" idiot treatment. Welp, he was 3 for 3.

He was also essentially one icing and goal from the current GM away from taking a team to the ECF.

I got frustrated w Renney at the end, it began to feel like he'd rather lose 2-1 than win 6-4

I don't think

I bet he'd be less expensive than Miller. He probably has a couple places he's willing to go and Chicago will want to do well by him.

And I would pay a hell of a lot for a bump to 15%.
