He was waived last year and went unclaimed. Presumably there was some amount of retention/salary coming back to offset it.
yes I know, but now if buffalo would actually take him they could do a claim and then send a player with salary back to ottawa for say a 7th rounder to essentially consummate a trade without getting the okay to waive the ntc

Yeah, I would do it for sure.
it would absolutely cost more than kakko and nils, dont kid yourself. a disappointing former 2oa pick who is already three years into his nhl career and off his elc and an undersized ahl defenseman do not land you wright or cooley right now.

That doesn't work if they were intending on having Ottawa retain salary on his contract and once again I highly doubt the NHLPA will go for that as it is very obvious what they are doing. He only has a 10 team NTC. They can just try to find someone else.

Probably gonna put him on re-entry waivers.

More and more buzz about jt miller coming our way. My guess is something like Kakko for JT. Idk how I feel about it trading the former #2 with talent for a 1 year rental. With that said, next years lineup would be damn good.

Unless there is new stuff out there, the buzz was debunked yesterday.

i never suggested retention, i suggested buffalo trading a player with salary back to ottawa instead of retention. same affect.

as im sure the pa would complain about it, but the response would be that it was a ntc and not a nmc, so nothing was done wrong. they literally just had this move threatened to mcd to get him to agree to waive for a trade rather than have him be waived and picked up by columbus.

Mead claiming Hajek will be back. As a 7, I don’t mind this. Let Jones play with Braden. Send Nemeth down or buy him out.

They need to let Hajek go try and fit in somewhere else, this is like Frankie Corrado in toronto, just either play him on the 3rd pair or let him go to another team to continue his career.

It is not the same. He has a cap hit of 6.25M. If they send a player back in the deal he still has a cap hit of 6.25M. If they retain half he has a cap hit, to them, of 3.125M. They can still send that player they would have traded to a different team to clear even more space and they have 3M more than they would have had.

Kakko and Nils for Wright? I'd probably do it but man would that be a deal that comes with a ton of risk. Somehow I don't see the Rangers and NJ hooking up for such a big splash lol.
yeah never in a million years. Maybe if he falls to 3, but i think a team like Arizona would want their own home grown savior (like Strome lel)

Nemeth had a bad season but I don't think he's as bad as he showed last year. A team like Arizona who will have issues attracting UFA's could probably play him in a depth role for this year and next, rebuild his value and sell him at next years deadline for a mid-round pick. They would also probably get a late pick for taking Nemeth now from the Rangers. The question becomes, are they willing to take on the actual cash.

Something I've thought about was a Nemeth for Ritchie deal. Ritchie is owed $3.3m in his 2nd year in actual cash. $2.5m cap hit.

Nemeth is god awful, now, before and in the future.

you adjust to the hand you are dealing with. if murray wont waive to buffalo, buffalo can claim murray and then agrees to send okposo to ottawa at 50% then it becomes close to the same end result.

i understand it isnt the same exact thing, but from a cap number standpoint it is.

Literally hasn't been any buzz at all aside from that one guy who speculated it yesterday on the radio.
