The thing here is, his value doesn't really bring back the pieces wanted and trading him just to make cap space would be dumb. I mean the Oilers are frustrated with Jesse Puljujärvi not getting much attention, they apparently are looking for a 2nd. Kakko is basically in that territory at this moment: decent metrics but not producing. The difference here is that Kakko apparently still wants to be a Ranger, whereas Pulju wants to be gone. Probably means KK has a bit more value as teams know he doesn't want to be traded.

But like I said, I doubt we can use just him to bring up a PLD or something similar.

Seems like it’s a PR move at this point from the Flames perspective. They won’t trade his rights. They’ve made sure that 8x9.5 offer was known.

Which he doesn't. I doubt any team is going to make an offer that would give him more money than that 8 year contract would, and even if it would it would be like 1 or 2 million. If he doesn't want 80 million from Calgary, he just wants out of there. Which is his right of course.

That’s why we need to ready ourselves for the possibility that he goes for less than we expect. I mentioned it a few pages back but Kakko + Nemeth for JT is a legit possibility imo
