And every season that passes with atrocious production obviously lowers his value. Right now teams may still view him as having potential. Another half season of this just moves Kakko closer being viewed as an outright bust.

In other words, if the Rangers don't trade him now, he may be worth less (or just worthless) when they try to later.

Something the asset management crowd leaves out here is the possibility that assets can depreciate...

Bingo. Fans have grown attached to these prospects because we had nothing to latch on to during the rebuild, but by any objective measure he has disappointed significantly. Kakko screams trade candidate.

Staple seemed to suggest Braun wouldn’t be brought back which is a shame cause I thought he was solid. Maybe he wants to play on the right side

I thought the Brooks scheme to sign Kadri or Malkin was pretty clever. The guy running Chicago seems to be in way over his head. Why not try something lIke this? There are 20 other teams who think the are Cup contenders in the same cap hell. Someone may try this.
4-5m retention costs at least a mid round 1st per year. 4 or 5 years retention is too costly. With the Rangers expected to pick in the 25-32 range (almost 2nd round), the cost would get higher still than the Ranger's 1st/year. Fun exercise, too costly in the real world.

I thought the best thing about Braun was that he wasn't Nemeth...

I'd rather see one of our half dozen defensive prospects fill that role

Clever? No team is taking 4+ years of a 3.5m hit. With Kadri it would be 6 or 7. Absolute impossible galaxy brain garbage.
doesn't Chicago need to desperately reach the cap floor? I could see it being done especially if they get a free prospect like Lundkvist or Jones out of the deal

They could do that in a number of ways that will require 1/2 the amount of real dollars spent and likely far more goods than Lundkvist or Jones, albeit in the form of picks.

The Rangers trading JT for essentially nothing only to turn around and trade huge assets and hand him a bad deal would be peak Rongos

God I hope it isn’t JT
Remind me of the Nedved situation, although we didn’t trade a haul to get him back.

CK and Panarin 16p, Fox 23p, Trouba takes out Crosby, Jarvis, Domi... Shesterkin one of the only reasons we were in some games...

exaggerate much? I get the hesitation with Chytil, but don't act like he wasn't given 4 SEASONS to finally emerge in the post season? KK played well? Really?

I don't wan't to see either moved for 1 yr deals. but if they are moved for more established players that can help us win a cup in the next 2-3 yrs, you have to do it.
Panarin played like complete shit the entire playoffs. His point total is an anomaly. Panarin's playoffs can best be defined as sauntering into the offensive zone and backhanding a pass to the other team. He was complete and utter garbage at ES.
Kreider decided to do his usual disappearing act in the playoffs. Garbage. Once again his points were gifted on the PP. Take away the PP and Kreider becomes a completely useless player except for when he decides to actually use his speed to spring one (which he never does anymore).
Trouba single handedly cost us game 3 of the ECF. That performance negates the rest of them. Taking out the other team's best players by chicken winging all playoffs is not a formula for success.
I was hard on Zibanejad in round 1 but he played well. Respect there.
Fox was disturbingly bad in his own end and looked uncomfortable as could be with the puck on his stick for most of the playoffs.
Shesterkin left a real bad taste in my mouth with his playoff performance. He did not play like a vezina caliber goalie and his performance against Pittsburgh being outplayed by an ECHLer is the reason why the team was gassed in round 3. Not to mention that choke job in game 1 in Carolina. He does not get a pass from me either.

There are other paths to reaching the cap floor. Reaching the cap floor is never a desperate situation. You can sign Brett Howden to 10M x 1 year if you need to.

Teams don’t see their window opening 5 years out. The last thing Chicago wants is to be paying 4M to Kadri in their projected prime.

Talk to Nichkushkin
What does Valeri Nichushkin have anything whatsoever to do with Kakko? Are their careers interlinked in some multiverse?

Nichkushkin just scored 15 points in 20 playoff games and won the Stanley Cup. I'm sure Colorado is pretty happy with that right now. I'm sure the Rangers would take that in July 2023 from Kakko.

Kakko is also 6 years younger. If Kakko at 21-22 years old in 2022-23 puts up the numbers Nichkushkin did this season, the Rangers are fine.

Dallas was stupid to give up on a player that just helped their division rival win a Cup.
