Kakko, Chytil, Nemeth, '23 1st for PLD + 2nd.

I don't understand it either. I would assume he will be right there with both of them if not more expensive.
part of it is he is 29 years old, and the other part is he has only played more than 70 games one time in the last four seasons, and you guessed it, it was his contract season...

I guess I'm more of a let the kids play kinda guy, id love if Berard and Cuylle were on this roster next year, might be unrealistic but imo we need hungry kids pushing from the bottom of the roster.

Trocheck has 245 regular season games in his last 4 seasons. Copp has 259. Strome has 263. Don't see a massive difference here.

So that sounds good. 'Be bold make a move'. But what if those moves cripple his flexibility moving forward or rip apart the cupboard of future assets?

Miller may cost a TON and cripple their future cap with an older player on a high dollar contract
Kadri would be a crippling older player contract
Copp/Trochek/Strome are all top-6 players with some warts and may require an overpay we all will be uncomfortable with
Bennett may not be moved
Malkin may only move from Pittsburgh if given a 4 year deal at 36 years old

What if all of these things occur, which is possible. Does he force something and overpay? Does he just pay someone like Trochek $7m per season if needed knowing it will be crippling? Or does he take a breath, retain his ammunition in terms of cap space and assets until the right opportunity presents itself and look to improve other areas?

The only flexibility the Rangers need going forward is the space to bridge Lafreniere & Miller next year. None of the other young players have shown anything to make me think they are untouchable. Adding a center like Kadri or Miller makes the Rangers the clear favorites in the Metro and potentially the Eastern Conference.

I keep harping on it but its a 3 year window right now until Igor's salary doubles and we have to retool. Future flexibility means squat if we dont win in the near term.

Maybe, but what if someone like Miller or Kadri's contract demands mean killing that 2nd window before it comes.

I disagree about Lafreniere and Miller being the only players who may need a pay day next year. hat if Chytil takes a step and puts up 50+ points? What is Kravtsov comes in and scores 40-45 points as a rookie? Both of those guys will need contracts.

Again, I'm not saying one path needs to be followed explicitly, just that there needs to be some sort of nuanced take here. It can't just be, sign someone and hope it works out.

There's another, longer, window after that retool anyway. Panarin will age out, Shesty will get an improved contract, the kids will hit their primes, new stars will come in. All's good.

I don't think we'll get clarity on this until he meets with the media at training camp, but we still haven't heard that VK has officially rescinded his trade request.

Kind of like we're seeing with Puljujärvi in Edmonton. Come back, prove to the league you can play and once you actually have legit value again, we'll revisit moving you. VK's next contract might not be our problem.

Thats a myth. We are in the first window now and we are close. Why would the organization sacrifice the chance to win it all now, to do so later? Was 5 years out of the playoffs not enough time for this team to marinate?

Does Drury believe in the Chytil's, Kakko's and Kravtsov's of the world? They havent really earned it to this point. He didnt draft any of them, but he's been in the organization long enough to know better than all of us. Im not big on betting our Cup chances on guys who have barely been available on the ice over the past 2 seasons. Chytil is always hurt and was being healthy scratched in the second half of the season. The G6 scratch speaks volumes about where they think Kakko's development is and Kravtsov has his own issues.

The team desperately needs another legit center. I will reiterate that there is 0 in the organization at center coming through the pipeline. Players dont fall off a cliff when they turn 30 years old. And if someone like Mika does, we are f***ed anyway. Hell, Stamkos looked cooked in the bubble and he just scored 102 points at age 34. They need to go for it now. Worry about the 2nd window when you have to. Its more likely to include Mika/Fox/Igor/Laf/KAndre/Schneider/Othmann than Kakko, Chytil or Kravtsov types anyway

That will be an important thing to keep in mind. Once Kreider, Trouba and Panarin are gone our core will be guys like Fox, Shesty, Laf, Miller + multiple other young prospects. The future looks bright if we make smart choices now.

The biggest boom potential cap wise in the next 3 (or was it 2) years of flat cap is keeping most of the kids and letting them improve on ELCs and RFAs. You axe 2 kids worth of cap for a would be declining big C UFA get and that's raising the floor but lowering the ceiling. Are you really getting through Colorado by snapping up has beens on the FA market? Colorado sure didn't.

so it would seem if we actually dont want coop or strome than you just lumped trochek in with them ha

Kadri just scored 90 points and won a Cup. Miller just had a 99 point season. In what way are they has been's? Id argue they are exactly what they need right now. Chytil Kakko & Kravtsov also arent on ELCs anymore, another point people conveniently ignore. Its decision time on all 3.
