As much as I want to build from within; the time to go for the cup has just begun. Imo we can only try to build from within for so long before it’s time to start trading for someone like a solid 2C. That time isn’t far away, arguably has just started.

Yeah PLD is a loser but he’s a great hockey player and there’s still 2 years on his deal. That’s 2 years where we can kick the need for a 2C down the line.
Then you trade Chytil + Schneider + 1st for him, and I guess cap space will have to be made. Schneider is still so young he can't be realistically expected to take over from Trouba for a couple of years. Chytil is not an ideal 3rd line shutdown center (faceoffs + defensive game being weaknesses) and the Jets need to cover for C if PLD is traded. The Jets will have to trade for a C if Chytil is not included which will make the price go up again to cover for that extra trade.

Trading for PLD is very much a go for it the next 2 years, then figure it out (again) deal. But if this plan fails it's a huge debacle that's hard to fix. Why risk it?

Would be very surprised if the Rangers trade Laf, Miller, or Schneider at this point. They are fixtures. The guys on the table IMO are Kakko, Chytil, Jones and Lundkvist. Othmann just had a hell of a junior season but is still multiple years away from the NHL, so not sure how much value he has in a trade. They may also want to hang on to him for the second window.

He only does that and spurred when he actually feels like it. He's not a player that is usually playing the way you described. That's part of why so many people get so frustrated with him because they know that he can if he wants to, But then he doesn't
Sounds like kreider minus this past regular season

I actually think Othmann makes the team out of camp and acts as cheap depth for a contending team.

They're also at different points in their careers, and it's interesting you bring those two names up because those two guys have been tossed around on this board for years now for underperforming. That alone should give you even more pause
Well PLD has played 6 seasons. Chytil has played 5. KK has played 3.
PLD scored 20-27-18 in his first 3 seasons.
Chytil and KK have been well below those numbers.
I can not say what any of the 3 will be long term but style wise PLDs fast heavy type of game is something we are desperate for in the top 6.

I have a feeling Dubois' motivation concerns completely fly out the window the second he lands on a big-market contender. It honestly feels like he just has no desire to be playing in a small market. Proximity to Montreal/Quebec also likely good for him as well.

What’s the solution at 3C if they package Chytil for PLD? Don’t say Goodrow.

I’d go as far as to say someone like Larsson May be an option, but before people kill me id probably build a team that was more like:
1A
1B
3A
3B

Where one of the 3rd lines has Larsson and the other has Goodrow. Rotate the wingers as necessary

No to Schneider. But yes make a trade for PLD and figure out the cap issue. Something like Chytil, Lundkvist, 1st instead.

If the plan falls through well that sucks, but it happens for 31 teams every year. You risk it because PLD would be a great asset for the team in their current situation and fills a huge need.

The longer we wait the older Zibby/Panarin/Kreider/Trouba get and the closer Igor gets to his next huge contract.

Mollie is saying in a paywalled article (go figure) the Rangers are expected to re-sign Motte

Wondering what that deal looks like

Is Othmann that close? I try not to get excited about forward prospects with this organization.
If Kravstov, Kakko and Lafreniere who are all better prospects than Othmann struggle to get minutes now, I cannot imagine Othmann making this team anytime soon

Would Chytil, Lundkvist 1st move the needle if you were the Jets? Hardly. That's why it will be Schneider. If PLD really becomes available more teams than the Rangers will be interested. Lots of teams want/need a fast retool/fix this summer.

If it’s to the Yotes I’ll accept a signed Shane Doan jersey tbh.

(I’d imagine a 3rd would do it, I don’t think there will be a bidding war for him)
I own 2 of those myself…so we may have the baseline for a deal!

It won't be schneider.

I predict Kakko+Nils+2.

I like Motte but that contract needs to be under 2M per. I don't know if they should be paying much more than league minimum for a 4th liner especially when you have Reaves and Goodrow making almost 5.5M combined next season.

Stanley is huge but isn’t he pretty soft. That was my impression. Not that he doesn’t use his body but he doesn’t seem to be an intense competitor which I think has been the MO of the rangers FO for the pst year or so. But maybe I’m wrong.

I haven’t followed him a ton, but he has stood out in a positive time a few times I’ve seen them.

Guys like that always face a big risk to get burnt badly, often that risks causing that they become too cautious on the ice. I can definitely imagine that he suffers a bit from that in any event.

With that said, it really tends to be night and day for these guys between playing for a struggling team and a more settled in team. It’s not like it’s without challenges to play for our team and there are no guarantees, but I got a good feeling for how he would perform here.

All those players are definitely on the except for Othmann, what would make you even think he would be available?

He is the 1st pick of the drury era that he hand picked himself. Othmann also just had a dominant season where he is at. Not sure what makes people think othmann is at all being talked about in any trade right now.

Laf, Miller, and Schnieder are not going anywhere. If they were not dealt already they sure as hell wont be dealt now after how they all were able to step up their game and are obviously part of the futures of our franchise.

Well well things are starting to get interesting.

At first blush return on Fiala does seem light but teams knew Guerin's hands were tied. Similar to a situation we saw play out last summer...
