Dubois is a loser
Chytil stepped up big time in the playoffs and we should build from within

As much as I want to build from within; the time to go for the cup has just begun. Imo we can only try to build from within for so long before it’s time to start trading for someone like a solid 2C. That time isn’t far away, arguably has just started.

Yeah PLD is a loser but he’s a great hockey player and there’s still 2 years on his deal. That’s 2 years where we can kick the need for a 2C down the line.

This comes in under 84M for 23-24

Panarin 11.642
Zibanejad 8.5
Dubois 7
Kreider 6.5
Lafreniere 3.8
Goodrow 3.642
Kakko 2.3
Blais 2
Kravtsov 1.8
Rydahl 1
Hunt 1
Othmann 0.894
Cuylle 0.828

Fox 9.5
Trouba 8
Miller 3.8
Lindgren 3
Jones 1
Schneider 0.925
Robertson 0.798

Shesterkin 5.667
Garand 0.828
Gallant may have a brain aneurism being forced to play all that young talent.

Though, to his defense, he can easily ship them down to the 4th line because there aren't many 4th line types down there.

I really would love to see Chytil become a 2C but he better show that he can be that quickly. Cuz this team is borderline (if not already) cup contenders. & I’m not seeing a lot of teams in the past years that won a cup with a 2C around Chytil’s level.

If Drury feels Dubois in as 2C, it makes zero sense to keep Chytil over Kakko. Kakko’s metrics suggests breakout if his summer training checks out and he becomes more assertive. He’s already a very strong two-way player. The points will come with confidence, more assertiveness, and more opportunity. Goodrow becomes 3C. Rydahl 4C or a Bellmare type $1M veteran.

I do not view us as a potential winner unless we get to be a tougher more physical team. We improved in that way but TB still pushed us around. PLD would help with that.

What’s the solution at 3C if they package Chytil for PLD? Don’t say Goodrow.

I have not watched PLD a lot but in the times I have watched him I was really impressed. He played both fast and heavy. That is the kind of game we need at center on a top 6 line.
He only does that in spurts when he actually feels like it. He's not a player that is usually playing the way you described. That's part of why so many people get so frustrated with him because they know that he can if he wants to, But then he doesn't

Any deal with the Jets would include discussion about centre Filip Chytil, wingers Alexis Lafreniere and Kappo Kakko and defenceman Braden Schneider.

Another option on the back end would be prospect Nils Lundqvist, who is a mobile puck-mover and was on the Jets’ wish list when negotiations for Copp were ongoing.

The Rangers can't afford to pay Copp or Strome but they are adding a bigger ticket to their books?

Have these people seen the Rangers salary cap situation?

My big issue with PLD is motivation. This guy can be a stud if he actually wants it, but he's demonstrated throughout his career that the motivation is lacking. People can point to the coach, the city, the teammates, the whatever but it only seems like there's a justification for what we see with this guy not giving the effort to be the player that he can be. I don't really know that he's the guy I want to bring in here. Especially if you have to pay him, we've got a group that's a bunch of character players and while you can make the argument that having a strong locker room will help bring a player like this along, I tend to believe that argument more so when the PLD type player is not going to be a player making a lot of money. I really don't like giving big money to players that need other players to help steer them. Your big money players should be the ones that steer the rest of the group and drag them into the fight, not the other way around.

Before end of Feb: Goodrow
After end of Feb: figure it out at the deadline

As an example, I would love to see us acquire Ivan Barbashev if he hasn’t re-signed in St. Louis. I think the Blues might slip out of the playoffs.

Or how about one last run at the Cup for Joe Pavelski?

Wasn’t there a ton of questions about Mika’s motivation before he came here?

I never saw anything about his motivation or his character, I just saw a lot about him not having reached the level that many people were hoping he would reach .

The two aren't really comparable

Well that is a concern but have we seen that from Chytil or KK on a consistent basis?

Good, they can have Chytil, Nils, and a 2nd like I said earlier.

Where do we sign?

They're also at different points in their careers, and it's interesting you bring those two names up because those two guys have been tossed around on this board for years now for underperforming. That alone should give you even more pause

It was here even after the trade. "Too interested in DJing, not prepping for the season." "Would rather be a football (soccer) player" etc
