I don't disagree, but I also have no interest in trying to buy 3rd tier guys and think we will have a new Erik Christiansen
White appealed based his success in the past.
OTT fans dismiss it as due to playing with Stone, but complementing skill players is a skill unto itself
These are the UFA C's 28 or under who played 13+ GP in '21-22

repeating myself, sorry, but
I'd be willing to start out with a Chytil, a guy like White or these, and Stastny, along with the prospects, and let the staff sort it out, to start in the fall

I worry that signing a Strome/Copp/etc this July, at Free-Agent-Frenzy prices/term, will stress NYR's Cap situation, for upcoming season, at TDL and beyond

player availabilities arise throughout the early and mid-season, as rosters cut down, players complete rehab, surprising guys grab roster spots, transaction lead to transactions, etc

And I wouldn't be too sure of him not reverting to his immature self if he came back to NYC. Vancouver notoriously has the worst nightlife of any major global city, it is boring as hell with no entertainment, everything closes early, and most "fun" things to do in Vancouver revolve around nature, hiking, skiing; largely athletic things. NYC is a VERY different place to be as a 29yo multi-millionaire professional athlete. He's also butted heads a lot in the Vancouver locker-room and has been called a cancer there too.
So true.

I think it was Staple's podcast. He said the Rangers were more aggressive at the trade deadline because they had so much space available to them and the team was having a good season. This opportunity would not be available again because the Rangers will be in a cap crunch until the salary cap increases.

It all depends on what Copp gets in free agency. What will his market be on July 13? Money is tight. How many players will get everything they want? Other teams trade picks for players and they keep the player. Not always.

The annoying thing about the Copp trade was the condition on the first round pick. The Rangers pick became a 1st round pick when the Rangers reached the conference finals. The same thing happened with the St.Louis trade in 2014.

The Rangers were on the opposite side of that trade with the McDonagh trade to TB and the Rangers were getting TB's first in 2019 if they made the Cup finals in 2018 or 2019. Why not conference finals?

The Rangers seem to always bend on these issues.
Zuke to Dallas (reaching CF to get 1 rd) too

I thought Chicago and Philly had serious discussions about DeBrincat for #5. All of the guys just speculate and this stuff takes on a life of its own.

I think the whole narrative that Miller has “matured as a player” is completely media / fan fabricated. He still makes the same absolutely horrendous turnovers. I was watching a game in Feb they blew against the Flames in OT. Miller made one of the worst turnovers, trying to dangle 1 on 2 in 3-on-3 OT that led to the GWG.
Should have dumped it in, IMO.

I would not mind Sturm on this team. I liked his game in Minnesota. Not as productive in Colorado, but Colorado was deeper. Might be cheap too since his second half wasn't as productive as the first half. Good on faceoffs. Also, his advanced stats don't seem bad considering the absolute massive favor in defensive zone starts.

The Rangers were 3 points up on the last playoff spot on the day of the St. Louis trade. Tampa Bay was four points out of first place in the league on the day of the McDonagh trade. Why wouldn't they have a higher bar for the conditions? As you've noted, Tampa's was over two years as well.

My bet is that it was CBJ with 6+12, and Chicago slammed down the phone when they heard "Hi, this is Jarmo..."

It's a bit tight, just like all the other top teams, but if you're willing to deal Kakko for a good 2C and not bringing back the UFA, other than maybe Motte, assuming you can pawn off Nemeth, there seems to be room. They can make it work, that's their job.

Is Trochek in line to get paid substantially more than Strome and/or Copp? I’m starting to come around on the idea of simply signing him. He is better at the stuff that Strome sucks at and as good of a scorer.

Yzerman is the best.

I liked the virtual NHL drafts. Simple. No stupid speeches about thanking the host city or congratulating the Cup champions or talking about your draft party. Nobody gives a f***. 5 minutes. The picks are made. Every year. Trades are expected. I know the groundwork is laid. Everyone has phone or an internet connection. Seems like such a waste of time. The media guys like it because they get away from their spouses.
