If anyone played their way off this team in the preseason, it was VK. I certainly would love to see how he does after he gets more acclimated to the NA game, but we saw what we saw. It wouldn't shock me if they moved him.
He’s got no value, they’re not moving him now

They’ll give him 20/30 games to get his shit together and if not they’ll take action as needed

Blais is going to be day-to-day all season.
Not ideal.
I don't understand why we would carry 23. The entire purpose of having extra players is so you have injury replacements. Unless there's more than 1 person hurt, or Blais is expected to be out longer, it seems pointless to spend the cap space just to scratch someone.

Well that one can't be sent down because of waivers and tantrums

I’d rather have Motte at $1.35 instead of Carpenter/Hunt at $1.5, if they’re not banking any cap space.
Horrible job by Drury in that regard.

Vesey earned it. Good on him. Alot of college players whos career didn't pan out exactly how they hoped with the hype he had wouldn't reinvent their game and work their bag off to get a PTO and eventually sign a league minimum deal.

Welcome back, we're glad to have you. Hope this work ethic and determination rubs off on everyone else that needs a bit of that chip on your shoulder attitude.

Hunt and Carpenter should be scratches and oen should hit the waiver wire once Blais is uninjured, if that ever happens. Get Kravtsov back in lineup and Vesey should absolutely be in the lineup too on opening night.

K-Z-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-Krav
Laf-Chytil-Vesey
Goodrow-Carpenter-Reaves
Hunt-Blais*

* - Assuming with Vesey signing and Hunt/Carpenter not on waivers w Gauthier/Tinordi that Blais is headed to IR for start of season and won't be in lineup, hence Goodrow as 4LW and Carpenter in lineup.

I'd like to see Krav get the shot opening night on the line even if he doesn't per se deserve it, but could be a confidence booster and get him going, we're a better team if he delivers on some of that talent and potential at his salary point.

I absolutely hate this 4th line, but thats exactly why thats going to be the 4th line, because, Rangers hockey baby.

I suspect Blais is not a viable option right now but is not hurt enough to be put on IR. They’ll dress one of Carpenter/Hunt and the other sits—while Blais nurses his injury.

No, his salary is below the current threshold that can be completely buried in the AHL (somewhere around ~$1M). He won't count against the cap
Thanks….so signing Vesey and Goat either gets claimed or sent down…..overall nets us about $100k more in cap space to start the season, right?

We'd gain $50k of cap space with the direct swap of Vesey for Gauthier

If I could get a team to bite on Blais, I'd just be admitting defeat (its been a defeat NYR is just in denial) on the Buch trade and getting what I can for him and hopefully clearing his cap in the process.

Hey Ottawa ... can I interest you in a slightly used Sammy Blais for a guy named ... Tyler Motte?

Seeing Vesey anywhere in the top 9 is going to make me sick. I don't see Goodrow playing on the fourth line. He'll be next to Chytil on the third line with either Laf or VK as the winger. Vesey needs to be on the fourth line.

omfg some fans need to get over the past.

Better than seeing Dryden Hunt in the top 15. They should just waive him and send him to Hartford too

Is it the past though? Yes - I realize the trade is a year old, but currently we MAYBE have one top 6 right wing if Kakko sticks. Trading away our only bona fide top 6 RW for cap space and a walking injury is something that is CURRENTLY hurting this team.

Look, Buch didn't have to go, and its not even close to the most painful trade (the Zucc one hurt more even if it was a rebuild move), but he did and thats okay I didn't lose sleep over it.

But a mistake is a mistake, may as well move on and try to fix it a different way as opposed to pretending and oft-injured bottom 6er will ever consistently stay in the lineup or even fill a top 6 role.

The point of my original post wasn't to rehash the Buch trade, it was to say we already lost, no sense holding on to Blais hoping for something thats not going to happen just because you don't want to ADMIT the defeat you suffered in a trade.

Cut your losses, move on, look for a different solution

To me, it's not the trade.

It's that we made the trade to open up that spot and then defaulted back to playing it safe with do-nothing veterans.

It's the Ranger way.

IMO, it also seems to be the Ranger way to magically find cap space to reward good soldiers who can no longer play (Staal/Girardi) or to sign bottom 6-ers with a cup ring to bloated contracts (Goodrow), or signing below replacement level players to contracts they don't deserve because "veteran presence" (Nemeth/Tinordi), but we apparently can't find cap space to sign a top 6 RW. I get that it's spilled milk - get over it, but I can't help but find it incredibly frustrating.

I'll shut up about it now.
