Arthur Staple speculated Drury might acquire a #6D and assign Jones to the AHL. Staple brought up Pierre Oliver Joseph as a possibility. $825,000 cap hit. Signed through 23-24.

When does Jones request a trade if he is sent to the AHL?
Literally before Drury is finished saying the word "Assigned". POJ is a good pickup over Hajek, not over Jones.

Why are you guys freaking out about Jones? He's been glued to Schneider for the last like full week of camp, regardless of other pairs being messed up and mixed and matched Jones-Schneider has stayed together. It seems pretty clear they're going to go with Jones-Schneider to start the season.

Because Staple wrote this:

"The big whack of waiver-wire placements is still to come in the next few days, so keep an eye on that — GM Chris Drury certainly will. If there’s someone the Rangers like on there it wouldn’t be a total shock if they made a claim and sent Jones to Hartford for a bit. Jones doesn’t need waivers so if he’s not the clear No. 6 defenseman it does him no good to sit behind Hajek or anyone else that might come in."

He's the 6D but it may not be by much.

They need to cut bait on Hajek. It's dumb to just keep him sitting around and he's obviously not showing good performances on ice. I don't care what kind of tools he has or whatever, they've just been sitting on him for years now.

If you are concerned about cap space and want another defenseman, trade Hajek or send him down. Stop dicking around someone like Jones in favor of a guy you know you're not going to play anyways

Like, I'd happily say cut bait on Hajek, put him on waivers, and try to pick up POJ on the cheap as that 6/7th swing guy

I don't get the fixation on the PP with Jones. He still offers a massive upgrade in the transition game over the other options for his spot. That's still really, really important to creating offense at even strength (which itself is really, really important to winning hockey games).
yeah it's just a stupid mindset. He's not even bad defensively either, especially to play Hajek instead or some other reclamation project. Just let the kid play.

I don't think Hajek is realistically an option. If we follow "watch what they do, not what they say", he hasn't gotten a single game with Schneider and hasn't been paired with him at all since the first day of camp. Why they haven't cut bait on him yet I have no idea (its not like JG is still with the organization and needs to try to justify trading for him) but that day will be here soon.

I don't understand the unnecessary needling of Jones by some members of the beat, lead by Brooks (who also spent years defending Girardi and Staal when they were both in our top 4 causing massive problems. )

PO Joseph would be an interesting pick up since there are tools to work with there but this isn't the spot for that, not to mention he doesn't provide any more insurance than Jones (probably less.)

I'd easily pass on the slew of waiver wire guys who are sure to be available in the coming days. I doubt anyone makes it through thats even worth looking at.

If they demote Jones...

At what point do we just call it as it is and say the entire Rangers organization is incompetent and incapable of identifying talent.

So... if Kravtsov doesn't make the team out of camp, what do the NYR do with him?

- send him the the AHL? I would think not given what transpired last time
- give him a spot anyway at the expense of a middling vet (Carpenter, Reaves, etc...)
- give him the opportunity to play in the KHL again?

Hunt-Gauthier-Kravtsov

Doesn't really look like a ringing endorsement that he's made the team.

Can we stop trying to will this into existence for every prospect we have that might not be NHL ready at the moment.
But Jones is NHL ready and has looked good. He's oozing with talent. He's definitely gotten stronger. There's literally no reason to not give him the shot he earned.

I don't understand this franchise
