Gallant is definitely gonna take time away from 50 goal scorer Chris Krieder and 90-110 point scorers Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad

And give it to a few kids whose career production is lower than one year of the vets.
 
Of course, the kids never got the ice time to produce so it’s an oroborous

Malkin and Crosby are HOF players so their cap percentage is OK especially considering they already won a Cup before their back-to-back Cups.

Is MacKinnon a HOF player? Is Panarin a HOF player? Austin Matthews is trending to be one. McDavid will be no question.

When a player takes up that much cap space are they the one to lead a team all the way?

The question that needs to be asked is: is Panarin the one to lead us to a Cup. His cap percentage says he is. Is he though? If I had to say any players on the roster was it would be Shesterkin, Lafreniere, and Fox.

With Pittsburgh they also had/have a knack for finding players that can play with Crosby and Malkin. Pretty sure if they had a 1st and 2nd overall pick they wouldn't bury them and instead put them on Crosby and Malkin lines.

In Vegas years ago. He didn't have a Panarin or Zibanejad on two separate lines. In NY last season he didn't do it. He rode the top two lines. I showed the ice time disparity. I'll believe he changes that when I see it.

Multiple people have given you plenty of rational explanations and responses, but if you want to continue to work yourself up over it and argue for the shake of arguing be my guest.

And thats literally what we want.We want to see it.
The kids in the playoffs were our best line. Gallant said "theyre top 6 guys"
So to us, if he's keeping the kids as the third line, that hints maybe hes gonna split the ice time so that the kids get to develop properly now that he trusts them.
Youre absolutely right in that he rode mika and panarin.
He now has the ability to ride mika,panarin,laf and kakko.

While I hope kakko and laf get a lot more playing time this year, one of the issues with the kid line is that Fil is still the 3rd, 4th or 5th option to take a big faceoff. If that remains the same this year, it means this line is getting less ice time. Really, the kid line's ice time is dependent on how well they defend because if they're mostly only getting 5v5 time, that means a chunk of that ice time is automatically going to lines with other centers who can win a draw. Which means, the kids are likely stuck in that 14 min and under scenario. I think that's a bit dangerous for their development, so I'm hopeful GG finds opportunities to get all 3 kids more TOI, be it special teams or having different line combos for protecting late game leads. Quite honestly, I'm not in love with the idea that Trocheck, Panarin and VK would be deployed much to protect leads. I don't trust Panarin in that role and VK needs to earn that kind of responsibility. I actually trust Kakko and Laf more in those situations. So, late in games, I'd be okay with deploying Trocheck or Goody with Kakko and Laf for d zone draws, etc. I think GG needs to consider something like this. Kakko may actually be our 2nd most reliable defensive forward after Goody. Zibby would be the other. Everyone else is pretty average in that dept.

And fil winning faceoffs is part of his development. He actually won some big ones in the playoffs, but he does need to improve. That being said mika is barely above 50% and cant win big ones typically and yet he's still in tight games.

agreed. Fil needs to keep growing in this area. If he can solidify his play in his own zone, work on his faceoffs, his TOI will grow and his confidence will too.

There is no bigger proponent of giving Laf and Kakko more ice time than me, but (a) the real difference is special teams and (b) lines always changes.

I don’t know how Gallant reasons, but when you play with Kreider-Ziba or Panarin — you have to adjust to them. Early in preseason, I can definitely see a point in letting them focus on their game 5 on 5. I would read nothing into these lines.

But again, this is pretty irrelevant unless these guys get top PP time.

I'd love to see it I just don't trust Gallant to actually do it. If that 3rd line can get 16+ minutes it's way better than what they got last year. Put Laf on PP1 and he can then get up to the 18 minute mark and that would be huge for him and the Rangers.

But I just don't trust Gallant to actually do it.

But it's all based on speculation. Not facts. I'm calling it as it is and based on what Gallant has done so far with the Rangers.

Just assuming he's going to dole out the lines equally in ice time, there's no basis for it based on what Gallant has done in NY.

Trocheck... Drury had to sign or trade for a center. That is what it is. But that open spot on PP1 left by Strome, Drury probably envisioned Lafreniere there as well.

Pretty naive view of the world. Drury and Gallant talk all the time. There's a more than very good chance Gallant helped move Drury into signing Trocheck. Remember their history. Remember Gallant works for Drury and Drury has shown no unwillingness to move on from people. I'm very sure the coach knows who the ultimate boss is.

If Drury is OK with Blais on line 1 there's a deeper rooted issue.
