It's a long season, between possible injuries, and them not really knowing what to expect out of like half the roster, it seems like trying to figure out what they will do at the deadline is premature.
Of course it is, but this Kane debate will go on for 6 months.

That is interesting that you “don’t give a rats ass” about the facts. Because regardless of the easy argument of he is “old and getting older” he is STILL producing at a high clip. Your argument is invalid. He isn’t showing signs of someone on the “back nine of his career”. This all may sound good to you but it isnt the case.

You know what I don’t give a rats ass about? I don’t give a rats ass about “jumpstarting” someone else’s rebuild, although I would hardly call a late 1st rounder + 2nd rounder + B prospect “jumpstarting” a rebuild. Oh and by the way, Chicago is ALREADY rebuilding. This isn’t even some rival team.

And the big variable in all of this is Kane’s NMC, which will affect the trade return, just as it did got Giroux to the Panthers last year. If Kane has a short list it changes things. Not a lot of teams have the assets to make the deal either. The Rangers do.

You can bet your ass that if the Rangers are at or near the top of the East at the deadline that there will be serious consideration for Patty Kane.
I will concede that he is still producing.

My concern is if that will continue this year. Possible, absolutely. Probable? Yes. Guaranteed. Nope.

But the bolded section above is not going to be the winning bid in any potential trade for Kane and that's a non-starter for me.

Sadly, I agree with the last statement. If the Rangers are top of the east, Drury will be forced to pull a dumb move like this.....unfortunately

This whole Patrick Kane stuff is so annoying. At the moment, our big needs for another playoff run is not more scoring. It's possible we could be hit by the injury bug this season and all that could change. But this regular season is about letting the kids improve the scoring depth on the team. If Kakko, Laf, Chytil or Kravtsov collectively or individually become impact offensive players -- this team will have more than enough scoring depth come playoff time. The thing that's currently out of whack is our bottom 6 and our bottom pair D is ok at best for the regular season but severely lacking come playoff time. We lack enough forwards who can be relied upon late in games. One thing, even more than scoring, we need from 2 of the 4 young forwards is for them to be reliable in their own zone, protecting late game leads, defensive draws, PK. It's going to be hard to justify the forward group as is if more than half of the top 9 can't PK in addition to a 4th line that may not have the best PK options.

Same issue with bottom pair D. One reason Gallant didn't love playing NL with Fox in the lineup and why he will likely have an aversion to Zach Jones is the PK. That bottom pair should really be eating more minutes on the PK to reduce our dependence on the top 4.

Like this past deadline, there's a good chance we'll be looking to add multiple role players for the playoffs. Again, all of this goes out the window if we sustain a long term injury to any of the core pieces. But at the moment, adding Patrick Kane for the playoff run doesn't make a ton of sense. Adding him just pushes kids who need the experience to the bench. And still leaves us with the other role player needs which we won't be able to address if Kane came here.

Finally, this isn't 2012. What this team lacks isn't a Rick Nash or a Marian Gaborik. We already have Panarin Fox and Zibby. We have Kreider and Laffy and Trocheck. Not to mention possibly more scoring depth with VK, KK FC and Zach Jones.

But if you look at our 4th line options right now -- what are we starting the year with? Some combo of Goodrow, Blais, Carpenter, Gauthier, Reaves, Rydahl? Let's say Goody is up on the 3rd line. If the 4th line is Blais, Carpenter and Reaves that means only Carpenter is your only PK option from the 4th line. On the 3rd line, only Goody (unless Kakko starts to PK again). Then it's Kreider, Zibby and Trocheck taking the bulk of the PK minutes. Point is, right now, bottom half of our lineup is fine for the regular season but it's really lacking come playoffs. Instead of Kane, we're going to need Tyler Motte, Justin Braun types again.

Fair enough, that is kind of what we do here.

My guess, if most of the contenders are limited in cap space, and if most teams view the 2023 draft as good, rentals should be somewhat cheap as there will not be much competition for them, and at the same time teams will be hesitant to give up 1st round picks.

No reason for the Rangers to bid against themselves.

Hahaha, I wish… In surgery and about to go under the knife in a few hours. So Morphine Will be my numbness fix for today. Should be a routine procedure - unless they Find something undesirable. We Will see.
I hope you're doing OK, @BBKers! Hang in there!

Thanks for the heads up on Dallas for Lundqvist! That deal is a steal for Chris Drury. Don't know what possessed Jim Nill to agree to it. They're a bit thin and lost Klingberg, but still overpaid; the NYR will take it though LOL :D

Patrick Kane is a pipe dream. The Rangers are maxed out on large contracts. If the kids take a step forward this year like at least most of them should are offense will be fine. The Rangers are deeper at forward. Both Blais and Kravtsov returnin…..Cuylle could be ready by mid to late season and we have better depth to draw from among the veteran forwards who will probably be in Hartford.

A potential weakness at our bottom pairing LD. Someone almost certainly will have to be brought in on defense by the TDL….you need extra D to fall back on if you intend to make a long playoff run anyway. That is pretty much a rule.

Another thing there is no way that Drury should move that Dallas pick and definitely not for a rental no matter who it is. That pick could come as early as 11 or easily be in the teens in a deep draft but it also has the potential to be a lottery pick if it kicks over into 2024.

MacKinnon is a UFA contract while McDavid had 4 RFA years left. The contract also begins 6 years later than McDavid's did.

Honestly, I think 12.6 mil is a slight discount. I was expecting 13 mil.
Fair enough, I just think he's slightly overpaid t that number. I guess it will test the theory of can you win a Cup with any player on your team making more than 10 plus million, just like the Rangers with Bread.

Maybe Sam Alfano is and will get signed? Invited to main camp.

Henault is an interesting invite. Played with Cuylle which is probably how our staff knows him.

FYI NO surprises or new names at all

the AAAA guys NYR added - Elson, CJ Smith, Welinski, Domingue

Every player signed to AHL WolfPack contract, that we knew of, is at NYR Camp - [6 F, 4 D, the older, ex-West Point G Gahagen]

Alfano, the undrafted OHL kid who was at rookie camp

Henriksson, Rydahl, Lindbom for their first seasons in NA
Edstrom and Sykora, who likely return to Europe after NYR or Pack camp

and the signed and unsigned Junior kids who could get sent back - Cuylle and Garand unlikely,
Rempe and Korczak maybe,,
Othmann (can't play AHL), and
the unsigned kids: Grubbe, Barbashev, McConnell-Barker, Boyko

From the previous Nils thread. Could not say too much. As I Promised. So I was very cryptic.
But it was on the mark. Was a bit more straightforward on the main board thread.View attachment 586320

Julien Gauthier to Montreal for a 4th…incoming? or possibly Arizona for a 2024 pick??

I’m hopeful Gauhtier is going somewhere. It would seem like a better play to keep Vesey or Carpenter around as depth forwards as both PK. Get a kid-round pick for him and move on.
