Elliotte Friedman said the Canadian dollar will determine when the cap increases. The Canadian dollar is down. The dollar had strengthened last year but it's down after the Fed raised interest rates in the U.S.
To make a league competitive and not bury some teams as losers forever you do need to "reward" the losers. You change because it rewards teams for winning. Didn't say it doesn't make a difference, just that a snake draft isn't likely at all to change the fate of a team that is a bottom feeder good or bad.
Obviously McDavid at 28 (when his contract is up) to 35 (I'm sure we'd have to give the 7 years) is decrepit and though twice or more the player Zegras is, or will be, Zegras being 4 years younger outweighs that for you.In 4 years? Might prefer Zegras.
Nothing about that idea widely alters competitive balance. The Losers are rewarded with the top picks in round 1. Literally the best players in the entire draft. To make a league competitive and not bury some teams as losers forever you do need to "reward" the losers.
What are the odds we actually get McDavid after Panarin's contract expires?
It's a hockey message board.Of course but it is happening not in any way that anyone predicted 4 years ago and is happening to half the league. It's got nothing to do with the rangers signing irresponsible contracts.
Just saying that the non-stop discussion about buying out Kreider, Panarin, hand wringing about Mika's contract, will Kakko get an offer sheet!?!?, was all a complete and utter waste of time.
You're absolutely right, and MCD 28-35 is still going to be an absolutely elite player. This is really a silly debate. Oh no he will be in his 30s so he might be a 110pt player instead of 130pt player who teams still game plan around regardless vs zegras who may not even be the top center on the ducks in 3 years.Obviously McDavid at 28 (when his contract is up) to 35 (I'm sure we'd have to give the 7 years) is decrepit and though twice or more the player Zegras is, or will be, Zegras being 4 years younger outweighs that for you.
Problem being McDavid will cost only money and cap space in '26, while Zegras would not be in that UFA bracket till '28, and that's if he doesn't sign a long term contract in the meantime, so its an apple to bananas comparison. Imagine what you'd have to give up for Zegras, he's no McDavid but still will cost a buttload. Now would you rather have McDavid AND that haul or just Zegras? Because that is the reality of it.
McDavid at 28-36 > Zegras
It's not even close. We're are talking about the best hockey talent to ever put on a uniform.
The unicorn fantasy would be, that he 'wants to win' and signs for peanuts.
I think we're going to start seeing a shift in how people look at aging curves in hockey as we continue to see the elite higher-end talents continuing to perform into their 30s. Players are continuously finding better ways to take care of themselves from a dietary, exercise, and recovery perspective, and it's showing.I'm pretty sure McDavid at 38 would be better than any iteration of Zegras, let alone 28.
I bet Hunt gets claimed. With teams dealing with injuries I can see a team claiming him. I wonder what team that will be
Yup. It's a cycle. In a generation there will be another wave of young hockey players coming in even stronger, faster and more skilled that would push older vets to the curb again.I think we're going to start seeing a shift in how people look at aging curves in hockey as we continue to see the elite higher-end talents continuing to perform into their 30s. You still need to be cautious with how you balance a roster of younger and older players, but I do think it'll start to become less of an issue when evaluating the guys we know are good
dont Think a 2nd for Soucy is bad. Would try to get Donato in that deal too And kill two birds with one stone. What would Carson Soucy @50% cost?
Obviously Hajek is either included or waived. Have to be closer to the deadline for obvious cap purposes.
Is he worth 2nd?
Arizona might feel like he is their plug.Every team has 4-6 Hunt type of players either in street clothes nightly or in the minors.
Hes a dime a dozen type plug
And not the best players in some other rounds. There is a difference.Nothing about that idea widely alters competitive balance. The Losers are rewarded with the top picks in round 1. Literally the best players in the entire draft.
The looney is at 73 cents to the US dollar today, one cent off its' all-time low. This ain't helping!Elliotte Friedman said the Canadian dollar will determine when the cap increases. It was 80 cents last June. 78-79 cents during the summer. The looney is at 73 cents to the US dollar today, one cent off its' all-time low. This ain't helping!
It was about accruing cap space for the deadline.Foolish premature move. It woulda sorted out Already had non IR injuries to 91, 74, 22 since PS games began. Next injury could LTIR. Need depth, and depth guys, to win. Sakic knows that. He just won a Cup w Jack Johnson on roster.
