Anyways I digress, if Laf and Kakko continue to play this way we have absolutely no need for Kane. It doesn't make a ton of sense to get him either, as its true he won't play PP1, and likely would bump Laf off 2RW unfortunately or be playing 3rd line which seems like a massive waste of talent.

But if by some miracle Chicago will take Kravtsov and a conditional 2nd for him on condition of Conf Finals, I bite. We complain that when PP1 struggles on occasion, PP2 is just as bad. Kane would help that and make them a more viable option to use.

Also, Chytil and Kane on L3 is a matchup that not many others in league could match. Also, god forbid Laf or Kakko got injured, we could do ALOT worse than Kane stepping up ... like Dryden Hunt worse.

I don't know, having a surplus of scoring players and depth never hurts in Plyoffs when the grind is on, people tweak things, and scoring is tough to come by.

On the flip, it makes it harder to acquire a vet insurance D that isn't Libor Hajek from a cap perspective. that should be just as big of a concern because any injury to top 6 d forcing Hajek into playoff action would be disastrous.

So if Kakko and Laf are that good, and I hope there are cause thats the best scenario for our team this season and beyond, maybe we focus our deadline acquisitions of bolstering bottom 6 and adding d depth.

I just don't believe that Blackhawks management could sell their fanbase on such a poor return for a future iconic Hall-of-Famer and multiple Cup winner. Even in a rebuild they'd expect way more for Kane.

The Boy Who Lived 😍
He wasn't injured, he spent the last week with Robbie Coltrane before he passed.

Probably harder to sell them on losing him for nothing. The reality of the situation is that the trade clause severely affects his return. Where are Blackhawks fans going? Absolutely nowhere.

TDL acquisitions are a huge part of why the Rangers got where they were last season, failed attempt or not.

The window time is now, not in 2029.

Having a window doesn’t mean you only address the window.

We can absolutely 100% afford to do that given the now and definitely near future certainty on W & D.

BPA and all that tho. Ugh here we go LW & RD

I strongly believe in BPA but I also believe that, in many circumstances, when you are picking in the 20s, grades are essentially identical and the players fall in tiers. If a wing from a tier higher up falls to you, like a top 10-15 type pick, you select him. But if the board broke like you expected there probably is a group of guys you have ranked from 20-35 or something and the exact order is often like flavor of ice cream rather than clear distinction in BPA. In that scenario you take the center as that’s what you need.

So Hajek going in over Jones? I knew Jones would not be given a fair chance. The 6th dman for the Rangers will always be an issue just like Laf never getting a chance on pp1. Not even worth stressing about it anymore.

not that i’m trying to stroke outrage but it is a big deal. defensemen play way more than forwards. a non-nhl 6D has a much harsher negative impact than questionable line mixing

Oh Vancouver fans; just when I think Toronto fans are the most delusional, you guys and girls go and top them.
Canadian hockey fans are some of the nicest people in the world when you meet them in person. On the interwebs, however, they are all pretty f***ing delusional & beyond irrational.

it’s been three games. preseason was less than a week ago. if theyre dying to get hajek ice time this early it’s because they like and value him. not this “the subs need reps” nonsense
I’ll repeat: if he actually REPLACES Jones and doesn’t just get some practice and a game I’ll feel the way you do. Until then, yeah, it IS giving him some reps. How is it NOT? You know they can ”value” Hajek without thinking he’s better or more valuable than Jones. You guys are out of f***in control. Hahaha.

Panarin is currently tied with Sidney Crosby for the league lead in points!

its like 7 different sets of Cowboys fans up there lmao

Here’s a question… do we have the worst defense prospect farm in the league?

With Schneider and Jones graduating, I’m not sure there’s anyone in the system who projects as an NHLer. Robertson is the one maybe.

Is anyone else concerned that bread appears to be playing the same way as the playoffs last year?
Nope. Currently, he's just fine. In May, we'll see if "playoff Bread" is different.
I’m not sure but I think Hajek SHOULD get some practice time with actual D partners (and maybe even a game here and there!) in case there are injuries and we need to rely on him. Really doesn’t sound too outlandish... If he replaces Jones outright then I can see the criticism.
Hajek should be getting reps with both Schneids and Jones, in practice. Even if he doesn't ultimately suit up. We should be okay until deadline, regardless.

It remains to be seen how many games this happens. Hajek played in a game with our backup...there's no pattern yet. KK and Laf have gotten top 6 looks. PP time is only a notable issue if either or both are on the 3rd with Fil.

20 - 93 - 24
10 - 16 - 13
"Vatrano" - 72 - 74
91/29 - 21/22 - 26/75

55 - 23
79 - 8
6 - 4
25 - "Braun"

With a couple of cheaper reinforcements, we have 5 lines and 4 pairs for the playoffs. If anyone "sticks" on the 3rd /4th line or third pair, like Othmann, Cuylle, Rydahl, or Robertson, Skinner, Emberson, then we save a 3rd rounder or two..

Overall, we're pretty set to replicate "a great regular season, plus a nightmare playoff matchup," like last season. I don't see Kane as the "Vatrano" replacement for cheapish, unless he forces his way here. I can see Braun returning as a rental, where we only need a Braun-level player to improve upon Hajek anyway.

I honestly think we're set up to replicate last regular season. We don't need to go "all out" to improve on last playoffs. If we get a great deal for someone up front, then great, but it's not required, imo. We just need minor supplemental help to match "a likely ECF team," like last year.
