I get it. But, you'd have to think that if he thought there was a decent contract out there waiting for him this summer that he'd sign some short term deal and get back to playing.

To me, it looks like he'll be fortunate IF he gets a contract at all. Truly remarkable considering where he was last summer to now.

Sounds like Montreal would have signed him yesterday.

What is going on with this site? Insane amounts of double posts. Random refreshes in the middle of posting causing you to lose what you typed. Weird graphics glitches.

It’s not just deadline day either. Been the situation for weeks now.

Jones being showcased for an offseason trade IMO

Robertson - Lundkvist will be your opening night pair. With a re-signed Smith as the #7

Offseason

Strome + one of Jones/Schneider/Robertson/Lundkvist + 1st + 2nd for Eichel.

maybe replace one of those picks with a more seasoned prospect like a Barron or Gauthier. I’d love to include Howden in this deal, but I doubt they want anything to do with him.

Buffalo fans probably laugh at this but I think it’s pretty close to what an Eichel package would look like.

we also take on~ 4.5 M in cap with this deal

If the Rangers have Jones marked as a piece in a big trade this offseason, signing him to an ELC is fine. But there's no value in "showcasing" him. There's more risk throwing him into the lineup than there is reward. He just led his team to an underdog NCAA title, and the hype train is full speed ahead.

Signing him helps a trade. But playing him? The risk is way more than the reward. "Showcasing" is a myth.

we definitely have the cap for something like that
I'd absolutely include howden if possible, especially if they want team controlled assets since strome would be a pending UFA in 22.
Eichel / Zib would definitely change the expectations for 21/22 drastically though.

Taylor Hall might be playing for Boston tonight.

Wouldnt the same eligibility apply to Jones when it comes to Covid guidelines?

If Jones is eligible he is going to get a few practices at minimum first. I dont think you see him for at least a week

Throw in Laf, Kakko, Kravs, Chytil, Fox and then maybe Buffalo fans will be ok with it.

Even if you complete a trade for Eichel, I doubt there will ever be a day in which he and ZBad are both on the Rangers during a regular season.

taylor hall was traded within the division and they are playing the sabres..so its no different than if he was playing for the sabres.

Schneider is already the better player and more NHL ready than Robertson. I think we’ll see him up before Robertson, even if it means playing on his offside. Reunanen seems like the more likely partner to Lundkvist if Jones is dealt.

We're not going to see Jones for at least a week, maybe more. I'd look at the two Buffalo games at the end of the month. Cannot see him being put into the lineup against the Islanders, or even the Flyers. The Sabres are the soft landing for a kid coming from the NCAA to the NHL. Unless he really shows something else in practice and on top of that, gets familiarized with their system quickly, he could be in sooner.

The Rangers are 4 points behind Boston. Boston has 17 games remaining and we have 15.

Our last 2 games of the season are against Boston, and Boston plays their extra 2 games after that. We need to be tied with them on points, or better, by the time we play them. If we do that, we control our own destiny. So we need to make up at least 4 points in the standings between now and then.

Boston's schedule: Sabres, Islanders, Islanders, Caps, Sabres, Sabres, Sabres, Pens, Pens, Sabres, Sabres, Devils, Devils (Rangers, Rangers, Islanders, Caps)
Rangers' schedule: Devils, Devils, Devils, Devils, Islanders, Flyers, Flyers, Sabres, Sabres, Islanders, Islanders, Caps, Caps (Boston, Boston)

That's 13 games for each team before we play each other, and we need to win at least 2 more games than them over that stretch. Only 1 of our next 9 games is against a team ahead of us in the standings. We can put the Flyers away and catch Boston at the same time.

This is great! My goal minimum for the Rangers entering their two final games of the season (against Boston) is to be within mathematical chance to make playoffs even without controlling our own destiny. So let's say 3/4 points behind.

Side note these last two games for Boston against Isle and Caps shouldn't be easy unless these two teams done settle in their playoff slots.

He's not a wrecking ball every night. More often than not, a train wreck.

I agree with you on most topics but on Bennett i can't agree with that. I think he was the best of the inexpensive change of scenery , change of system guys on the market. I think he would have been a really good fit here. Out of the all of the players we have on the 4th line Rooney, Howden and PDG, even Gauthier. I think given the chance Bennet WOULD have been the guy that finds his way into the middle six and stays. He's got a better shot, a better release out of all of those players. He's got a different energy level then all of those players. He's more physical than all of those players. He's got a better motor then all of those players.

I love how the Rangers club is shaping up. Influx of youth with super high skill level. We as fans have never seen this before with this club. The veteran core is really solid. There's one thing I see that is missing. When playoff hockey starts, the heavy games come out. The Cal Clutterbucks, the Foligno's, the Pat Maroon's. Year after year, these types of players becomes absolute fan favorites. That the guy i think Bennet can become. And if he doesn't...What was the worst that they did? Swung and missed with a pick?

Bennett was drafted really high, and didn't solidify himself as the projected top line forward the world thought he would be. Disappointed in that sense. Injuries factored. I don't think he is that player. I do think he's a Ryan Callahan type of player. A guy that could develop into a leadership role.

I was really excited about the possibility of Bennett too, but he's very expensive (both in cap and in trade return) for what he actually brings. And he's dare I say, a little 'old' for our forward corps too. Not shedding any tears. (watch me be wrong)

But he's not inexpensive. People keep saying this but it's all relative.

He makes 2.5m now, and he's a RFA after this season. What is he getting? 3m per? Even a bridge contract, is he taking less?

Rooney and Blackwell make 750k, and your other 4th line guy probably makes under a million.

That's 2m per year more, at least, in a time when we're talking about jettisoning Buch because he wants a raise. That's not even taking into account the assets traded for him

I'm curious if any of you caught the reasoning that Laf was taking draws the other night? Is Chytil's hand still hurt that badly?

He's taken 29 draws at this point and won 13, which isn't horrible considering he is a winger.

He also wants an expanded role, like a mid 6 role. That has been one of his issues in Calgary. He wasn't coming here to be a 4th line player, if he was it would just be another distraction. Think Lemmy 2.0...

For perspective, Bennet makes more now as a RFA bottom 6 player than our beloved Jesper Fast signed for as a UFA

I'm surprised there is still as much of a push for Eichel as there is.

I get the pros and the insulation if/when Zibanejad leaves or is traded but it really feels like Rick Nash all over again, except we'd be trading for a guy who has a pretty significant injury history rather than one who develops one after we get him. If you're worried about committing dollars to Mika because of his injury history, Eichel should scare the crap out of you. He averaged 12 games missed per a season BEFORE this year.

Also, if we're looking strictly at production..

Mika is performing at a 64 point pace over 82 this year. This is a down year for Mika
Strome is performing at a 74 point pace over 82
Chytil is perforing at a 46 point pace over 82.

Thats is more than enough. We have bigger holes to fill and if you want to upgrade the C position, we can do just fine with a player who is a lesser name than Eichel.

Are you suggesting "addition by subtraction?" If yeah, haha.
I dont think anyone can figure out Taylor. Maybe he, even cannot. He's been on crappy teams, with incredible talent, and had good seasons. Was outstanding in a Devils uni, only to go to Buffalo where he bombed.
Is it lack of self motivation? Unhappiness? The players surrounding him, the losing?
Could get to anyone, but still.....don't you have to do your best?
Have a feeling if the Rangers had gotten him, he would do well.
Probably do really well with the Bruins, unfortunately.
