Not really. He loses out on that money regardless. Like whatever he gets paid to play next season is on top of any of these calculations. And it will be a small prove it type deal. No one is going to pay him more than 2m at this point.

The calculation Tony and his agent would need to make... would signing and playing like 8-10 games this season (and maybe some playoffs) help increase the value of the next contract? Maybe, but likely not by much. If this had been something the NYR would consider, they should have offered this to Tony like two months ago. Then, there might be real value to Tony to play half a season or more with a team. that could really help his next contract.

Someone paying me $2M to “prove myself” would pretty much be the same as winning the lottery. :sarcasm:

Speaks volumes, too, about what he thinks his NEXT contract is going to be.

Yowza.

If he accepted the mutual termination, he would lose 2.6m

His total earnings in the NHL aren't even 5m so I understand he isn't walking away from that. If this was an expiring contract, a short term deal could have made up for what he'd lose but with 1.7m guaranteed from a buy out in the off-season, whatever he makes on a new deal would be on top of that.

what I'd like to see going forward

Kreider - Zib - Buch
Panarin - Strome - Kakko/Kravtsov
Laf - Chytil - Kravtsov/Kakko
DiGi - Blackwell - Gauthier

Gauthier deserves a real shot, but with Kravtsov coming along, and Kakko starting to look better, I struggle to see where he fits. I don't think it helps anybody for him to be a 5 minute a night 4th liner with no real talent to play with. If the Kravtsov to center thing gains any traction, I'd happily move him to 4C with Gauthier and DiGi. Thats a BIG BOI line with some real talent.

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Hajek - Smith

Geo

Zac Jones worked in for Hajek and Miller on occasion when he gets here

Miller has made some bonehead plays lately and might do well with a game or two off

Id like to see Howden jettisoned into the sun, and Rooney is just a randomly generated NHL player.

K'Andre is never, ever, sitting out a game.
Jones, if he gets play, comes in for Hajek, or Smith after a really bad game if no one is hurt.

The eyes on the TV are showing that Krav MUST move up to at least the 3rd line here on out. For the 4th? I mean, at this point does it really matter? Gautier shouldn't be a 4th liner, but this team (lol a non playoff team) doesn't have room for him in the top 9 this year.

I wonder if they might go with something like this, but minus Gauthier and plus a 7th D. That would let them ease in the new kid, and they could alternate double shifting Kakko and Kravtsov with the 4th line to get them a few more minutes.

Chances Kravtsov starts on the zibby line or any line above the 4th line Tuesday eve?

Probably around 80/20 no and that’s being optimistic.
Zero doubt kreider if he plays should be playing with Rooney and whoever else on the 4th line

I’d like to see this D at some point next season, hopefully to start:

Lindgren-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Miller-Lundkvist

Good balance of skill and size on each pair. Avg age under 23. Robertson-Schneider top pair in Hartford.

I like that. For the most part miller and Trouba have been decent but on paper your setup looks good!

I get it. But, you'd have to think that if he thought there was a decent contract out there waiting for him this summer that he'd sign some short term deal and get back to playing.

To me, it looks like he'll be fortunate IF he gets a contract at all. Truly remarkable considering where he was last summer to now.

Would have done the same thing. I hope he learns and becomes a better person. He is one heck of an offensive dman
This... I also hope Tony can get out in front of his demons and accomplish something with his talents. Not everybody gets that same opportunity which he had and wasted . Maybe with some off ice help he can eliminate his triggers .....He is not the first nor will he be the last ....but I would never ever wish him misfortune . Godspeed Tony !

He's not a wrecking ball every night. More often than not, a train wreck.
I doubt that he would have made a huge difference either being just one guy doing it . We need one in the top 6 playing heavy minutes and a couple in the bottom 6 doing the same . Hopefully Bob the boys in the front office are aware of this and on the hunt . We might not see it happen completely until the trade deadline next season or the promotion of a guy from Hartford like Cuylle if he is ready by then .

If he was on an expiring deal (like Gusev) he probably would have accepted the termination knowing Montreal would give him a contract to off-set the money he'd lose.

It's that 2nd season he loses that is the problem. By letting things play out, he can negotiate with everyone over the summer. The fact that Montreal is in play shows there is interest in his services for the right price.
