At the risk of being pedantic, I start by not seeing it as a predicament,
The thing is you want these guys to develop into NHL caliber players. Europe can develop players to an extent; they need to face NHL opposition to truly grow and reach their potentials. The same can be said of the AHL. You can’t play all of our prospects in the NHL. You’re either gonna have to bury one of them in the AHL, burning their ELCs, or trade one of them. This team doesn’t have the 3 years we need to deal Trouba. These guys are gonna be ready before we can trade Trouba. So we’re in a predicament. We’re setting ourselves to be true contenders, and this is a very awkard situation we’re in.

The Rangers have the best forward & defenseman duo since Messier/Leetch, in Panarin/Fox. They’ve got to find a way to build a contender around them.
That is probably at a MINIMUM ....2 more trade deadlines away for us ...this one and the next one . I think we can be there for the chase as early as 2023 . Be like Penguins...get one quick ...LOL...but....how far do we extend ourselves ?

I understand what you're saying.

I also don't see developing so they are ready before they Trouba as being the internal time clock for the FO.

Some of these young guys might very well end up being trade bait.

I think he does better today with the same opportunities that Goat has gotten
That is quite the assumption. And its based on the Wolfpack playing the same, what is it, 3 teams this year?

Gauthier has shown he can play at the NHL level imo. He may not be a 2-way dynamo but thats not his game, he is an offensive player that has certain skills. Its hard to compare him to Barron and its jumping the gun to just say yea I think Barron’s play translates to the NHL better than Gauthier, at least at this juncture

Monahan is a name a keep looking at. He needs a change of scenery. Calgary needs to consider a rebuild. He only has 2 years after this one so youre not locked in longterm. Jumpstart him and you can either extend him or flip him in 1-2 years. But you give yourself more depth down the center. And for cap space, or to offset Monahan’s salary, you can look at moving someone like Strome or Buch in the summer. Rest of this year:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Strome-Chytil
Lafreniere-Monahan-Kakko
Blackwell-Rooney-Kravtsov

Honestly, we have our offense minded 2C in Strome already. Monahan would be a redundancy.

Bingo. Rooney, Blackwell & Bitetto are here for Seattle exposure. Keep them, dump Smith & PDG.

Howden will be extended / made available too. This is to say that Blackwell is likely to be moved too, probably more likely than PDG.

It’s my opinion and I’m sticking with it. We’ll find out soon enough I believe.

@NYR Viper for the covid arm, you should expect it to feel like a really bad bruise through your shoulder. Mine lasted about 3 days, and get it on the side that you don't sleep on if you can. If I had to describe it, it was like someone thumped my shoulder with a lead pipe and I had a big, tender to the touch, bruise, but with not much visual signs. Also, you shouldn't be much concerned if you get a fever. Feel free to DM me.

Acquiring Monahan without giving back an nhl level piece seems unlikely, and only puts us in a deeper hole with regards to playing time.
The initial discussion was replacing strome for Monahan, as Monahan is a better offensive version of strome.

No longer a fact, is it?

"Approaching the deadline, I'm not going to sell the farm just for a rental that's going to blow town in a couple of months. We still want to build, we still want to accumulate prospects and draft picks and things like that, because we're kind of building on the go. But when I say that we are all-in, yeah, we're all-in because we want to win, and we expect to win every night and we expect our players to do the same."

But Guerin said trade talks around the NHL haven't been as active as in seasons past.

"Crickets," he said. "There's calls being made; I'm sure other teams have things on the go. We don't have much on the go right now. It's just kind of quiet. But we're talking to different people every day.

"I don't expect us to be too, too active, but if something comes up that makes sense, yeah, we'll do it."

Strome for Rossi

I don’t think the Rangers trade Smith unless there is another defenseman coming back.

Here’s a thought...Mark Staal. He’s had a pretty good year and he would help the third pair and the penalty killing. He would also drive a couple of posters here over the edge and we would benefit from them being gone forever!

Even Johnson or Bitteto can do what Smith is doing only they can make quicker passes. Neither is a good option, but i wouldn't hold up a trade because we need a dman.
