"There is also a trickle-down effect in which Kravtsov, who should represent the antonym of the definition of a fourth-liner, will at least open as a fourth-liner. It is not simply about ice time — in an anomaly, the Rangers’ fourth line of Blackwell, Kevin Rooney and Julien Gauthier on Saturday played 10:13, 1:28 more than the Lafreniere-Chytil-Kravtsov unit — but about playing with mates who complement his offensive ability."

That isn't an anomaly, Brooksie. That is "the plan".

Where does this idea that Kakko isn't good defensively come from (Brooks article)? I hope that is Brooks and not actually Quinn/the NYR. Because that is just a lazy, narrative driven assumption.

Blackwell gives up 6 more shot attempts, 6 more scoring chances, and 2 more high danger chances per 60 min.

The Panarin-Strome-Fast line was a great line but that doesn't mean that Panarin-Strome NEED to play with a Fast type of player.

It's great that Blackwell has added some depth scoring to the roster but he shouldn't be in the top 6. The Panarin-Strome-Kakko line has been very good, Kakko has really been playing well and he is a huge part of our future. What purpose does putting Blackwell in this place solve?

Does anyone around here really think that DQ isn't coaching this team opening night next season?

The fact that I'm 100% confident that he WILL be the coach next season is what makes me even more frustrated with his decisions.

To Quinn, Kakko is bad defensively because he's young and not very experienced. That seems to be the basis.

I think Brooks is kind of a mouthpiece. I wouldn't be surprised if Quinn hinted that to him in a convo.

I think it's kind of strange that some people believe chasing the playoffs is just and only on coaching, the front office wants them too.

Developmental time only comes once eliminated from playoff contention, and it's always been that way as far as I remember.

If you set up players to fail, you get to justify your decisions with their lack of production.

See the 2nd pp and the young guys.

If you give vets prime opportunities over and over, every chance to ride out their slump, you get to justify your decisions with the point totals.

Quinn is going to war with what serves him best. The question is who helps him, not who he helps.

You are 100% right. It's organizational. It makes no sense to invest in developing guys like Buchnevich just to sign outside players for $26m each year for 6 more years. Then force Buch out of town when he is the epitome of what this process is designed for.

For teams that believe they can make the playoffs though. I know there are more than a few people here that think this is a playoff team this year. Only way we were ever getting in is if two of the 5 teams better than us in the division shat themselves horribly. That isn't a great plan.

Something not mentioned is what Panarin's preference is with regards to linemates? Maybe he's the one requesting Blackwell, ive see it happen a lot. I love Kakko as a prospect and i love how much better he has gotten but i think his style fits better with Zib and Kreider than Strome and Panarin, unfortunately Buch is the most consistent player on that line.

Maybe it's just me hoping but I don't think he will be behind the bench next season.

Edge hinted that the FO most likely doesn't see him as the coach moving forward. At worst, I think he starts the season with NYR and the collective temperature will be taken after the first 2-3 weeks. Any big losses/loss streaks will be an even earlier dismissal though.

I keep coming back to Carp's interview on that Athletic podcast.

Say what you want about him, but he literally laughed off the idea that the FO was even thinking about changing HC's.

Gentler reminder that it was Knoblauch who consulted with Quinn about lineup decisions.
Yea and? We dont know how that conversation went, maybe it was Knoblauch who was really pushing for the move and Quinn just reluctantly agreed. What we do know is who was behind the bench at the time and we know who is behind the bench as he was removed off the line.

They will can his ass at season end and find a new coach that will be of JD's liking . JD did not hire Quinn so he won't have a problem telling JG to fire him . We add a couple of guys up front to act as grit guys and maybe one more on the blueline or at some point during the season if it is needed .....and with good coaching , we are on our way . Sometimes I think people underestimate what we have on this club . We have had terrible luck since puck drop in game one....that will all be in the past come October . Change the coach and they change the culture a wee bit.....we have solid potential to be a final 4 club . Go Rangers !!!
