As much as I dislike Quinn, this team is insanely inconsistent. I dont understand why they cant put together a string of good games.

they’re trying to rebuild and win at the same time. You have to chose one or the other. You can’t do both. Line 1 is ready to win while most of the remaining are kids in development.

The Covid cap is an issue yet hoping the Rangers will make up for both last years trade deadline and the summer signings at the deadline next week.

If there is a glaring flaw to Gorton, it is his tendency to hedge. Trade Stepan but sign Shattenkirk. Force Lias into the NHL because you need a center. Acquire Fox, ADA and Lundkvist then sign Trouba for 8 years with move clauses. Sign Panarin and Kreider while amassing 1st round forwards. Push the center decision down the road to see what Chytil does and then don't play him in the top 6.

There is a lack of a cohesive plan. Yes, its hard to predict who is going to break out and stick. But we have SO many tickets.

Gorton is like me when I need to buy peanut butter. I make a mental note of it and each time I go to the store for the next month I remember to buy peanut butter and end up with like 7 jars of peanut butter before I realize and cross it off my list.

It's up to David Quinn to remember to eat that peanut butter, though.

Does peanut butter spoil? Because I feel like he might let it spoil.

I actually really like these lines. The only thing I would flip is Krav and Kakko. Too bad we'll never see them.
I kind of like the idea of Kreider, Chytil, and Kakko together because they are all big players that work the boards together. I could see them grinding it out, cycling down low, and wearing the other team down and then using their skill to pounce. Kravtsov on the other hand seems to fit the Panarin-Strome mold of taking advantage of open seams and moving the puck around. I could see some real chemistry building there if given the time and opportunity.

Short term, you’re probably looking at modest moves - maybe Smith, maybe one of the fourth line forwards.

Long-term I think the center position is still TBD - including Zibanejad. I still think there’s a desire to potentially have some added experience on LD.

Buch remains a trade candidate as well, which I say with a tinge of sadness.
Are you aware of an overall plan/concept though. For example, does the team think they have too many skilled wingers, or are they ok with that moving forward and planning to ice a top 9 with average centers?

Any idea what they perceive to be the team’s weakness, and what they think the strength to deal from might be?

reading between the lines they will probably run with less spectacular centers than traditional contenders with plus wings given the current org depth. though the centers and wings both are subject to change

they will also openly swap pure skill for other elements. as a spitball that might be a 60-70pt. Buchnevich getting traded for a bottom 6 jack of all trades C and a grinding winger with some scoring touch or a vet LD with bite.

ive read a lot of edge posts and this is my interpretation. thank you for coming to my TED talk

I don’t know how many ways this can be said. This season is over. They are not making the playoffs. The only thing that matters is that the kids who aren’t scoring this year do so next year. The coach, or management at this point, needs to be doing everything in his power to make sure that happens.

A win against Pittsburgh in which Blackwell scores the GWG and gets 18+ minutes of ice time does not help this team win a Cup in the next few years.

Demoting Kakko after a failed SO attempt which itself followed him not touching the ice in OT despite looking like the team’s best forward is not a confidence building move. Kakko’s confidence, like it or not, is much more critical to the ultimate success of this team than a late season potential win over Pittsburgh.
I hate to break the news but if you said this in the coaches office, the locker room or the front office right now, you would be on a bus to Hartford. Or worse.

The Rangers will tell you when they have thrown in the towel.

Edmonton’s player development model “f*** Wins, Give the Kids the Car Keys”.

Right.

Kakko and Laf could slash Quinn’s tires and stay in the lineup.

Well yeah, I’d hope so. That doesn’t alter reality though.

Internet arguments in 2021 - pick an extreme and dig in.

NO ONE IS ASKING FOR THIS.

People don’t want to give the kids the car keys, they just want the kids riding shotgun instead of in the trunk next to the dead hooker.

It's been insufferable over the last week in particular. There have been so many straw men around these parts lately that Channel 5 sent the traffic copter out to the Yellow Brick Road to figure out what's causing the slowdown.

Why the KZB line still untouched. This line has done jack shit recently. Arguably, they have been our least effective line the last few games.
But they remain the only line unchanged.

yet the panarin, strome, kakko line which has played well, is broken up.

Why?
I have no issue with Quinn experimenting with lines. But I agree the KZB linemated can definitely do with a little space for a bit.

Giordano would be a nice add albeit an expensive option but he is signed for one more season with Flames and he is a left side Dman elite player and an elite leader . Not sure how we could afford him after next season though....Flames might eat some salary for the right return and then he might be eager to be on a legit contender and sign favorably for 1 or 2 seasons to be apart of that....maybe LOL...

He's 37. Saw enough with Dan Boyle.

Quinn searches for chemistry but won't stick with matches like Lafreniere Zibanejad and Buch, or Kreider with Strome, or Panarin, Chytil and Kakko.

I feel like you need to have leadership and youth on each line. I don’t think having 3 kids on a line is a good idea.

My lineup:

Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Laf-Zibby-Buch
Kreider-Chytil-Kravtsov
4th line

I think ice time breakdown percentage for each shift should be something like.

1st line - 35%
2nd line - 35%
3rd line - 25%
4th line - 5%

Can't wait to see this experienced LD they bring in to take minutes away from Miller, and/or play over him on the PK so Miller never becomes a primary PKer.

The 20 year old LD prospects they have, Robertson is traded, spends his whole entry level in the AHL? Jones?

If there is one thing the Rangers are good at importing onto the team, it's already in the NHL defenders.

Same. Coaches do and should experiment with lines to get the right combo. Quinn is just not changing the lines that needed help.

all he needed to do was switch kreider and laff from the last game. Thats it.
