It’s pretty rich calling a bottom-six player making 1.55 million ‘overpaid’ when’s few stalls over in the locker room are Trouba making 8, Kreider making 6.5, versatile Smith making 4.35 and perennial third-string G Georgiev making 2.425
Yeah they all are. And Lemiuex is overpaid too.

Have you messed around in CapFriendly? Our cap situation isn’t nearly as dire as some think
It kind of is. Going to have to pay Fox and Lindgren more than anticipated. Even less money to get center(s) too.

Would have to lose Buchnevich but there are economics at play too. Going to be easier said than done. All the three names are going to need bigger raises than were projected and we haven’t even mentioned Mika yet.

it is when you factor in the expected future cap hits...when you are talking about signing a guy for 6 years, its not just next season that matters. cap space will disappear in a hurry when ELC contracts expire...

Which entry levels are going to need big contracts to extend?

Fox and ?

Maybe Lindgren and Shesty, yet way lesser than Fox for sure.

None of Chytil, Kakko, Laff, look like they will need anything but a bridge deal to this point.

Okay here goes♤offseason mode♤->
Nyr trade for jack eichel + 2nd/picks+ maybe some ahl player/late flyer
Return for sabres- 2022 lotto protected 1st+pajuniemi+strome+reunanen
Sabres need d, they get a center back(who has produced without panarin) , a 1st rounder, a projected 3rd liner, and a possible 2nd pairing def, with at least 3rd pairing upside. STARS NEVER GET PROPER VALUE.
You needa make space for kakko/vk/laf so you get
Panarin zib kakko
Laf eichel buch
Kreider chytil kravstov
Barron rooney/4c who wins fo blackwell
This is balanced with a young-in on each line. We get a lot of money from deadcap space back and you lose strome's 4.5 mil cap hit as well. Kreider plays well with chytil, and kravstov and him can lean on kreids to learn the game. Laf plays with eichel, will open up space and time. Eichel as a 2c is cup contender worthy.
I think gauthier has the tools, but not the head nor the aggresiveness. He has one move- gain zone and wrap around the net or go for a shot. His hands are whats lacking there for me too. Imo he needs a change of scenery and to add more to his arsenal besides speed and size. Either way, dont mind him on the fourth instead of blackwell. On Def-
Miller-fox
Lindgren-trouba
Schneider-smith/lundkvist
I think you resign smith for 1mil, keep him til nils gets situated and learns in hfd. Trouba does better with a shutdown d-man. Miller will be a year older and -key parts here- faster and stronger.fox can carry anybody. Say what you will, kid legitimately will get norris votes in his career- if not winning a few. I have not seen a defenseman who can just do that from such an unassuming body profile(i.e smaller side+ lack of explosiveness). Its truly the poise for me, though. Yes, the team is young, but thats a team that is a nightmare and come 2nd half of next season, should gel enough to make a serious run at the playoffs and even the cup.
Pp1-
Panarin -kreids- zib
Eichel- fox
Pp2- kakko- laf- buch- trouba/miller- kravstov-chytil
Pk
Fox-lindgren
Trouba-miller
Mika- buch
Rooney/black- kakko(i think he starts pk next year given his def adjustments)
I mean your forwards at even strength will be pretty deep and you have a lot of youth, but I see this as probably a playoff team. They definetely enter contender status the year after, but honestly its tough to see what happens with zib.

Let me know when you take the Eichel proposal to the main boards, I wanna see the show

That's a good question

Do the Rangers sign him to a deal that has a 9-11M cap hit until he will be 35?

Great player when he is on, yet when off his production does not just drop a little, it drops to the floor. If he declines even a little what happens with his game?

IMO, it’s time to start rotating Miller with Reunanen to give the American rookie a break. Maybe adding Hajek too to this rotation so it’s three rookies for 2 spots.

DQ staying through the end of the season...
Flat cap so moves (especially ones for youth) will be tough...
Our kids are struggling mightily (Fox aside)

Gonna be a long, boring end to the season and then a REALLY long off season

Zibs is super tricky ... his durability isn't the best, i.e. he's injured pretty much once a season.

I hope he'll settle for 8-ish m/y.

Buch and ADA both at 50% for Lundell + pick

we're desperate for a center. I personally think it'd be easier to get a team, with cup dreams, to trade a center at the TDL rather than in the offseason.

Which is exactly why the Rangers can't afford to overpay 4th liners. Especially 4th liners whose only skill is drawing penalties.
