People are still obsessing over Dylan McIlrath? I've never seen a draft bust have so many fans so many years later.

Unless I am missing something, you seem to be referring to one troll post at midnight from the roster building thread? I haven't heard anyone utter that dudes names in years.

I do remember he was a meme a few years ago and some of the analytics nerds tried to paint him as a top4d and more valuable a player than Cam Fowler though.

Holy crap we play Philly 4X, Caps 4X, Pens X1, Bruins X2, and Sabres X1 to finish out March. We could be in the shadow realm by the end of the month.

Maybe it's a good thing since we are 3-9 vs NYI, PIT and BOS.

i would imagine with 4 games in the month, both AV and Lavi will go to school on how to handle us. It could be a dramatic swing either way.

That Georgiev is absolutely terrible and cannot be relied on?
Geo had a shit game, but when your team scores a goal 1:18 seconds into a game, then gets blanked the next 58:42 of gameplay, it’s not on the goalie anymore.

That first goal was awful. But Geo then had to face 2 breakaways in a minute. Kap’s was painful. Trouba passes it the right boards. Pass gets through. All of the 3 forwards on the ice migrate to the puck. Tic-Tac play, over Miller’s stick, then a goal. That goal wasn’t on Miller or Geo. The 3 forwards there (I forget who they were) played like a junior hockey team on that shift.

Third goal was frustrating. Feels like Geo could or should have had that. But despite his much we hate him, Crosby is still an exceptional hockey player. I’m more frustrated with Fox+Lindgren in that play than Geo.

If we lost 4-5 or 5-6, then I might be blaming Geo for tonight loss. But that isn’t the case tonight. We played like shit and deserved to lose, regardless of who was in net.

He looks like a different goalie then last year. I don’t know what happened to him. He’s certainly not helping his trade value, or his value to the rangers. He used to be dependable to stop the bleeding when called upon. Wasn’t great yesterday either but the team played much better in front of him

1. Fire Quinn.

2. Hire Babcock.

3. Trade Ziba to Buffalo for Casey Mittlestadt and Jake Quinn.

4. Trade Strome for a pick.

5. Move Laf to center.

6. Bring over Kravy.

7. Trade for McIlrath.

Panarin-Laf-Blackwell
Lemieux-Mittlestad-Kakko
Buch-Chytil-Kravy
Kreider-Howden-DiG
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Reunanen-McIlrath
Shesty
Georgiev

Thoughts?
Babcock is a turd and the games passed him by

McIlrath ? He can’t even make the Wings and would be killed in NY

Look at our PP last year, in the beginning of the year. THEY KNOW HOW TO DO IT. ( this is a random video because I was watching Kakko from last year and stumbled upon it. )

---------------KREIDER
PANARIN----ZIBS-----LAF/KAKKO/BUCH
------------------FOX

PLEASE... 1-3-1. It's the best choice and creates a lot of optionality.

Exactly!

And especially, we have new faces, no pre-season games at all, a young team, the King has left etc etc etc.

But we had one thing we could count on — a decent PP. 7th overall last season. Still we remake the PP completely turning into something that we couldn’t count on at all. We take away the drop pass when entering the zone and put a a RHS on the right side instead of a LHS in Buch/Kakko. Now it’s starting to mesh again — but was it really necessary to make those changes AT THAT TIME?? It have cost us so much. And moreover, was it the right move — to stick — to those changes when it was super obvious that we were struggling a lot with implementing them?

You also underestimate just how dynamic DeAngelo was at running the PP. He was darting all over the place, keeping the puck in the zone. He would also shoot from the point.

Of course he is a loss, and we saw that last season too when he was injured. But our PP is like ranked 27th in the league. That is not the result of changing TDA for Fox.

The Rangers have lacked a killer instinct for a long time. Almost every time that we have a dominating period, we still only get a goal in what could have been 3. It doesn't help that they rather pass than shoot, too. Hopefully this changes as the kids develop.

It’s just another example of how management isn’t held accountable.

In my world management should be accountable for the actual results of their decisions. It may sound good to make “the right move”, but that would only help me if we had a column in the standings that said Correct Moves instead of points. But we don’t, so I don’t care if DQ feels that Ziba and Panarin’s play last year was a big problem and that our PP was the epicenter for a disastrous overpassing approach that contaminated the rest of our game.

I am not saying that arguments can’t be made either way and that everything DQ does that I don’t like is black and white wrong in his favor. But this is just such a clear example. It really magnifies a significant issue. Because I can’t see anyone being able to convincingly arguing that it was the best move for us to completely turn the PP over and remodel it at the point in time this attempt was done.

We are closing in on one cup in 80 years. I know how the song will go. Management did the right move by forcing the players to play another way. It really made us worse? Everyone can see that — so now the blame will go on to the players. “Just get someone here that can shoot the puck!” We did it when we had Nyls, Straka and Nylander. Out went the trash and in came Drury, Gomez, Shanny and co. Did it help? Nope, it was the opposite.

Will Ziba be here in two years? Nope, very unlikely, he is the next scapegoat.

I have to point out that last year the most used PP1 unit, and the one that really took off after December was 10, 93, 20, 77, 16. Neither Buch nor Kakko was on the top unit.

That said, replacing TDA with Fox and not subsequently replacing Strome with Kakko or Laf (I don't think Buch is very good -- or as good as those two -- on the PP) has been disastrous. Fox can't move laterally or roam the zone like TDA and so when the unit is more stationary (not necessarily bad in itself) and you only have one 1-timer option, it becomes very easy to defend.

Not really sure of what you are trying to get at here.
