Gorton said in that video they were looking to trade up to the 6 picks prior to where they choose Schneider

would have been 1 pick away from Lundell so they probably would still have taken Schneider at 13
Can't tell if he was just jokingly saying that or not since he asked one of the scouts when 15 was up if he would take him at #15.

Same defense, new coach. Not that I expect a complete 180, but steps forward isn't beyond reason. I'm choosing to be optimistic!
The defense, for the most part under Ruff was a Chinese Fire Drill IMO. Way too passive in the neutral zone. Conceding the blue line on the regular. Players lost in their own zone or confused on their assignments.

There's major room for improvement on defense with sound structure and a philosophy change IMO... Having a full season of Shesty helps a lot as well

I took it as he's been trying to trade up since EDM #14.

Thanks for sharing! The Rangers need to put out more videos like this. This was awesome!

Is it so hard to copy the NFL and NFL Films in particular? I guess it is. I get it now, just not enough money here, the league nor the teams want to pay for it.

It's been growing though and it's great. This is like one of the few Rangers insider vids, if not the first!

In Germany too acouple of guys made themselves kinda independent on YT and are covering the young kids very well, good production value I mean.

@Edge will like this one

Interesting, all of the prime 2nd rounders went by at 37. I don't see teams waiting to let 1st round talent slide as much these days. That being said, 2020 was a very strong draft, and probably the best since 2003. You get your guy. That's what counts.

This is speculation on my part, but when Gorton says "you'll take the pick" prior to the trade it implies that we offered a choice between the 3rd rounder and an actual player to move up.

Given how LA was then later traded for a late 2nd, I'd bet a solid amount they offered Calgary the choice of the 3rd rounder and Lias Andersson

Man Schneider looks like the kinda kid that just exudes excitement and confidence. Such a contrast in videos between his reaction and Lafreniere's reaction.
Also watching some of the Team Canada scrimmage games. Even when he's on the bench the kid is pretty much standing the entire time.

Yeah but he also curses in front of children.

I thought that was before 19 and he was asking the GM if they were drafting at that pick. Could be wrong.

No it was in a video before the CHL top prospects game lol.

It was actually all kinds of hilarious because he didn't know the kids were around and was like "Whoops!" once he saw them.
Lol. He seems like a character. Which is all good in my book.

I always assumed he got by on his looks.

That was very cool thanks for posting here.

One thing that really struck me, is what the job of GM actually entails. Many of us, myself included at times, think Gorton is operating almost like he is in a video game..."pressing the button" on making every draft pick or decision based on what he personally wants to do in the moment in his own head.

In reality the job of GM involves much more...management than we often think about specifically people management. Running a draft is as much about knowing your people, what questions to ask, how to ensure they operate effectively and don't get flustered/lost in the moment, etc as it is about personally knowing the absolute ins and outs of every draft pick and saying "this is our guy because my research tells me he is."
