NHL OT goal against Crysby's Ice-Chickens after having part of your ear torn off & sewn back on...Priceless.

I've always said that the transition from bottom 1/3, to middle 1/3, to top 1/3 in the NHL revolved around the ability to turn question marks into exclamation points.

Right now the Rangers have a lot of question marks.

Their ability to climb will demand a lot on how many they eliminate or convert to exclamation points.

Our PP should be dynamite again, we need our PK to be better, our d is what it is for now but if we could even improve our pk i think we could sneak in. We really need our kids to take a step ahead. I'm hopeful but realistic, ive always targeted next year as the year we start looking like a playoff team.

This is speculation on my part, but when Gorton says "you'll take the pick" prior to the trade it implies that we offered a choice between the 3rd rounder and an actual player to move up.

Given how LA was then later traded for a late 2nd, I'd bet a solid amount they offered Calgary the choice of the 3rd rounder and Lias Andersson
I read that as whoever he was on the phone with was taking their pick and not dealing it because of who was left on the board.

Probably my favorite sequence of quotes from Gorts:

If you go 12-23 every year, there’s a player that pops. I went back to 14’ and 15’ because I think that’s really enough time to tell us about the players....

And number 22 we can get a great player. I mean, he’s there, right..? I mean he’s always there. Right? And if you guys don’t think we can get him at 22, I need to know.

I f***ing love Gorton. I love his approach at the draft. I love how he handles RFA and most contacts.

He didn’t just settle for Lafreniere. He wanted to add another difference maker with that second pick and he swung for the fences for a guy we’re already strong at within the teams depth.

Gorton and staff see these first round picks as 3-4 years away, so him drafting a Schneider could very well be that long term Trouba replacement in their hearts.

Gorton is playing longterm 3D chess here. We got to see some of that in a rare video that’s straight up hockey porn for someone like myself.

There are no perfect GMs out there. Mistakes will be made and there are always things that cannot be planned for and bumps in the road you dont expect, but I'm extremely confident in Gorton's ability to run this franchise. Then you throw in JD and what he adds into the mix and it really is a special mix at the top running the show.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the MSG training center on multiple occasions and have also been directly involved with charity events and have even played in a hockey game with several alumni and Rod Gilbert as the coach, amongst other private and junior rangers events in the past.

You get the immediate impression that they are a very well organized franchise and even more so they approach it like a family. One example of that is how Lundqvist left on friendly terms and will one day come back to work with the team in some capacity.

What I'm getting at is, this is a special team with excellent leadership and you kinda make you're own luck if you do things the right way. You are never guaranteed anything but I can tell you with certainty that the Rangers are a special organization and its great to be a fan of this team. A take a lot of pride in saying that.

I think this year you'll see more of what you saw in the second half of last season --- surges, a playoff push, etc. Whether it results in an actual berth remains to be seen.

I've heard multiple in the organization speak to progress more than specific plateaus for next season. In other words, if the Rangers challenge for the playoffs, but ultimately miss, that could be seen as a net gain based on how younger players progress, how veterans maintain, etc.

The season will be determined by how much the defense overachieves defensively. On paper it looks like it will be lacking but perhaps they gel as a group or a rookie comes in and Lindgren's us this year

@Edge do you have any insight on what the organization is expecting with Miller for this upcoming season?

As someone from the outside I’m not expecting him to make an impact at the NHL level this year but a lot of the conversation around him from pundits and even the own team seems to say otherwise

Can't tell if he was just jokingly saying that or not since he asked one of the scouts when 15 was up if he would take him at #15.

I think there's a high probability that he wasn't joking.

With Lundell off the board at 12, Guhle and Schneider were likely the highest rated players on their list starting with the following pick.

I suspect their were quite a few conversations about getting into position to take either guy. Obviously, when it comes to the video, the editing is only going to mention Schneider.

odd season to predict back on D -
Does Jacques Martin as D AC make a difference?
will Bitetto and/or Tarmo (...Hajek...) contribute much?
do Johnson and Smith end up playing (too?) much?

I don't see Miller getting much NHL minutes this season, unless much attrition, or he GRABS it, his play demands it

All the talk internally to this point has been much more wait and see.

There's a feeling that physically he is close to ready, but that he may need more experience and mental development first.

They are certainly open to the idea of him making the team and see it as a possibility, though I don't believe they view his odds quite as high as fans.

I wonder if we had any interest in Jack Finley or Roni Hirvonen > Will Cuylle
I don’t think Hirvonen. Unfortunately. It seemed very obvious the Rangers prerogative this year was size. Don’t think a lot of the smaller guys (except Berard who fell way too far) we comparatively high on their board. I would have taken Roni over Cuylle for sure, but what do I know.

I do not believe either guy was ranked as high by the Rangers.

Cuylle was ranked as a late first round talent by the Rangers.

he patterns his game to Tom Wilson. id take that if he can develop into that, hopefully he can be as good. say what you want but guys like him are still valuable and yes he does go overboard but he is a good player and entertaining. any team would love thst type of player on their team

likely been discussed before, but FYI I looked this up,
was curious about which current guys had most games as NYR after changes since TDL

I’m a club guy, meaning the team is just a representation of what the club is, the club is grander and always comes first. We root for a hockey club, other fans root for a team.
