I live in North Carolina. I'm fully aware of how far cities are from me. And I grew up in New Jersey, so I've got those distances down too. Milege is not the reason to switch Pittsburgh and Raleigh. I'm not sure rivalries are either.

I'm aware you live in NC, so what? There are lots of people who live in NC and grew up in the north who don't have a great understanding of geography. Do you? I don't know.

Mileage is at least a third of the reason the normal alignments are what they are already, with time zones and rivalries being the other 2/3. You can't just brush it off. It's a huge part of the way these things are decided.

The Rangers make it into the playoffs in a division with Boston, Philly, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Washington, Islanders and Jersey?

only teams that will be clearly worse than us are NJ and Buffalo

The divisions look pretty balanced to me? The California teams + Yotes all suck but you can't gerrymander that.

Hope we get Pittsburgh instead of Carolina, and I'm guessing the playoffs will be top four teams out of each division, no WC?

Interesting. What I said it would be. Geography AND rivalries

I do happen to understand geography.

Avs are going to crush their division. They might not even lose 15 games.

Pha and Pgh? That was the best he could come up with?

Lmao, seriously that is terrible. I was sitting there for a second trying to figure out where Pit was.

So I would assume the Rangers will have to beat four of those teams to get into the playoffs. I would also assume that they won't.

Also keep an eye on that Pittsburgh unprotected first.

It kinda sounds like Matt Martin has an agreement with the Islanders, but they are waiting for the cap to be clearer before announcing it.

Almost any team could make the playoffs in a shortened season if the goaltender gets hot...

They have no money to bring anyone in even if they wanted too. Think what you see is what you get.

Ummm, nope. They could actually sign M Martin (1,2 M), C Perry (900 k) and D Engelland (700 k) and still be cap compliant. Thereby relegating Digi, Blackwell and Bitetto to waivers/AHL/Taxi squad. Not that they likely will, but there are still certain possibilities here... exceeding the cap with a minor bonus penalty is also an option that should not be totally discarded either.

I've done the full Miami to Houlton and it is not exactly an exciting drive

Yes, that's right, I've been to northern Maine and it does in fact exist.
LOL...18 years we were ordered out of our truck and searched thoroughly at Houlton after they asked us some questions at the US/Cdn Border . We were only in the States for about an hour...I had detoured that way and then heading to Quebec after....I had a package to pick up at a TV shop ...a remote control . The officer asked us "what we bought in the US "...I answered " nothing" . He kind of looked at me...and he asked me again..."are you sure you bought nothing ?" I said ..." well I guess we bought lunch ! "....LMAO.....wrong answer !!! They made us get out and they did a thorough search and came up empty handed as I had bought nothing . Sent us on our way.

Awesome if that's the case! That makes product placement and marketing so much easier. You can strike a deal with one of the chains that runs through the mid-west, and same with south east. Similar messaging.

Northeast has more generational hockey fans. Your all Canada battle. Your west coast games really affect one market's TV time in Dallas, but they were just in the finals. They've got a great and growing fanbase.

Shesty will keep us in the race but unless Wash and Pitt are really on the decline that is the division of death!
There is no room to even get in the top 4 if Pitt and Wash don't start trending downward.

I see some of our own fan base is already writing us off for this year even though those teams around us are getting older.

Injuries and outbreaks are gonna play a huge part in who gets in, and odds are we are gonna see plenty around the league (especially early injuries from a short camp/no preseason). Depth will be the great minimizer.
