Ugh... just give him the "C" already... He is the Captain of this team.

Barron and Miller are two guys that are good for him to take under his wing. Show them what its like to be a disruptive, good skating, force, without necessarily being a "grinder/checker", which will cover for other shortcomings in their games.

miller and barron are both very good young prospects who will be banging on the door.

however, just because barrons season was taken from him by covid and miller is one year older, do NOT assume either is ready for a regular NHL shift.

odds are they are not.

The fact that he signed that big contract and is still taking the time to work out with these two guys, who aren't even projected to make this team this upcoming season, speaks to his leadership.

  • Watching him clown around with Panarin and Zib on the ice/bench.
  • Having him speak even a little Russian to help out Buchnevich.
  • Him being probably the most calming/intelligent speaker when it comes to the media.
  • And now him mentoring rookies who are probably destined for the press box/minors.
I don't care what people say about star power or holding it for #13... Kreider is the leader of this team.

As a sidenote, Jagr was a guy who recognized very early on he couldn't really explain how he did what he did. I always found him to be one of the most self-aware players I've ever interacted with.
That reminds of a video of Jags letting Kasparaitis know how to play defense on the rush. Like you said, you can't teach how to bounce off a check- maintain control- and then undress 2 defenders and a goalie, but he can tell you how to Defense, love the guy.

To his credit, Darius takes the critique of his play and says let's try it.

Unless NYR are trying to skirt bonus overages, I'd argue Barron will at least play 20-24 games in the NHL this season.

Chara isn's signing anywhere for 1 million, and if he did it would be with a Cup favorite. This debate shouldn't have ever got off the ground.

I could def see them as guys who show up well in camp but after a few weeks in the NHL struggle a bit as the adrenaline wears off and could benefit from some AHL games

That might work out well though...if the NHL actually starts on Jan 13th and the AHL doesn't start until Feb 5th, they could spend some time with the NHL team get some games in but if they start to struggle then go down when the AHL opens.

Imagining Miller after all these months training with Kreider and Prentiss...damn, he's going to be a handful even if he's not ready

Hi guys, where do you see Strome lining up this year?

If the question is with fantasy hockey in mind, we have no immediate replacement for Strome on Panarin's line.

I wouldn't expect the same PPG this season from him though, as I'd predict he will eventually move from PP1 to PP2.

I saw Buch's latest IG from FL. Maybe he went for a little sun treatments after spending a lot of time in Russian taiga.

This was a few weeks ago

At center beside Panarin. Probably with less PP1 time than last year.
Oh man strome is really gonna take pp1 time from Lafreniere or Kakko isn’t he?!
To me pp2 is almost garbage time. Especially with guys like ADA Zibby and Panarin getting PP1 time. Your destined to see about 20 seconds of pp time and most of it is just trying to get It set up

There was a thread on the main board about the Rangers going after Chara. Don't know much about the credibility, but I would be very open to that. Chara's defensive efficacy numbers were very good at 5v5 minutes. The leadership he brings would be good, this is still a very young team. Remember he played for Jacques in OTT, they both won cups without each other after years of contention. You can dress 7 to hit the Seattle requirements with Bitetto. Chara would be a value add to the Rangers, without question imo. If he wants to play here, I would say let's find a way to get it done.

Do you guys really care if Chara is displacing Smith, Johnson, or Bitetto?

Id certainly be open to it, but I think it’s likely Boston or bust. If he did leave I’d imagine it’d be for another contender to try and win a cup or to go back home. The Rangers are also at the cap so they couldn’t offer much of anything.

I wouldn’t mind the add on a 1 year deal, but I just don’t see it being a realistic fit.

Honestly Chara would be a tremendous stop gap fit next to Trouba. I love the idea.

this guy can still shut down the left side still a beast and still kill penalties. Sure the foot speed isn’t there but his length makes up for it. He’s night and day better than everyone we have on the left side right now including lindgren.

he’d be a great fit for a team that could use that leadership and grit. I hope it happens

Buchnevich on a beach relaxing when everyone is gearing up for a short camp and a 56 game sprint is typical Buchnevich

anyone imagine he worked out at all this offseason?
