I thought the waiver notice had to be made simultaneous to the buyout notification?

****, I've been wrong before. One thing's for certain – we will definitely, definitely know by 5pm today.

The Club shall offer the Player on Unconditional Waivers, either before or
promptly after the notice of intention to exercise the Ordinary Course Buy-Out option (herein
called "notice of termination") is given.

The request for Regular and Unconditional Waivers to Central Registry will be
processed every day at 12:00 noon New York time

Does "offering" the player require to waivers request to have been processed or does it mean the request to have been made? If it's the former, then he'll have to be on waivers by noon today. If it's the latter, they can do it right up until the deadline.

Frankly, it's not clear.

Comes down to the definition of "promptly", as well.

Shitty drafting. Who the f*** hired these attorneys? :)

The transactions establish the team which plays the sport. It's ****ing July and we're on a hockey message board, what would you suggest for a topic of discussion?
How about talking about what might or could happen instead of constantly talking about why nothing has happened yet? Didn't mean any disrespect.

Couldn't they place Smith on waivers without actually buying him out, like sending him down, or can he only be placed on waivers with the intention of buying him out? Just curious, might be a strategy to use....

Sure they can, I don't see why they would though

We've spent 40+ pages over (according to the thread title) 61 iterations of this thread discussing what could or might happen, or what should or shouldn't happen.

The discussion of of why nothing has happened yet, which realistically is only a fraction of the thread (the rest being...what might or could happen), is taking place because everyone is getting antsy as some nebulous deadlines may or may not be approaching.

Really not sure what you're expecting to find being discussed in here, given where we're at with respect to said deadlines.

Regular waivers are not available in the off-season except for the day after the team's season ends. Only pre-season and regular season.

Isnt the whole noon deadline thing just a in-season rule to ensure time to have active rosters be accurate the following day? I always thought it had something to do with the way the daily cap is calculated.

It applies to unconditional waivers as well, so I would guess it's still the way they do it in the off-season.

Total side note, but don't we restart the thread numbers July 1st each year?

Well, if they did.....other GM's would probably assume they're buying him out... Might Kick-start something on the trade front. Just a thought from the strategical side of things.. Probably wouldn't fool anyone, but yah never know..:naughty:

Again, this is not possible. For one thing, as I mentioned, waivers like you're talking about aren't an option in the off-season. For another, waivers like you're talking about are different from the waivers used when executing a buyout. There's no subterfuge to be had.
