This is a good point.... I could actually redo my spreadsheet I just did, but buyout Staal first... That would allow you to stuff Smith in the minors for this year, you'd still effectively claim a ton of cap space back. The differences in the buyouts are miniscule over the course of the 4 years
For sure.
That’s the one plus of keeping smith around though. Could serve as both the 7th D and 13th F.
But you have to call someone else up to take his spot, so the savings are not much. It's to get the $1.1M back in cap space
Panarin Mika Kakko
Kreider Chytil Buchnevich
Lemieux Howden Kravtsov
Smith Andersson Fast
Nieves
Skjei Trouba
Hajek DeAngelo
Staal Fox
Rykov
For me this would be ideal. Moving Strome and Namestnikov and buying out shattenkirk. Keeping Kreider and Buchnevich who this season would cost less than namestnikov and Strome if that’s even possible to believe.
It clears $1.9 million. How is that hardly any? That doesn’t clear hardly any salary, plus you’ve lost a pick.

It might be easier to move Beleskey than Smith.
Then bury Smith in the minors rather than buying him out.

Buying out Kakko saves $693,750 this season. I think we're that desperate, judging by the tone of that article.

Ok, but it would take those two, and a few more moves of that nature for us to get out players under contract. I don’t think we have those other options. It clears $1.9 million. How is that hardly any?

Is that actually how it works if you can’t get under cap? We're not competing this year anyway. There's no need for the team to even get under the cap. Just take the penalties and forfeit every game and then be ready to go in 20-21.

It's probably easier to trade him to Ottawa for a pick and get rid of the entire 925k
But the Rangers have to pick up his performance bonuses because the Sens can't afford them.
Are we only allowed 1 buyout after the arbitration cases are settled?
Or do we get one for each player who has filed?

I believe it is 1 total
Ughno. if you aren't cap compliment, the league voids every contract you sign in reverse order of the date they were signed (most recent first) until you become compliant and then those players become ufas
aren't keeping rykov to sit in the press box he needs to play...and if you are buying out shattenkirk that clears enough space this year that you don't need to move both strome and names. IMO moving 1 of them is a must, but so is keeping one as depth/insurance down the middle.
