We need a #2c they need wingers. Maybe something around Buchnevich, Namestnikov for RNH? We're not really shedding much cap trading for RNH though.

Exactly. I was thinking either RNH or Klefbom, but I don’t see Edmonton giving up on the K man.

management needs to have some sure plan before the buyout window closes ~July 31. The longer we go without making a trade to clear up space from now until the window opens, the higher the chance of a buyout. Every day is ticking toward something even if there's no trade.

That doesn’t help the team at all

Smith can play wing add grit kill penalties as a defenseman and Play both sides and can be waived if need be. Shatty cant do any of that for us.

Can he? I don't agree with this. Smith was used as a winger but I don't feel he was actually adding anything in that position.

Shattenkirk's buy out looks very ugly. Smith's buy out makes much more sense

Smith was actively good as a 4th line wing.
Probably more importantly he never did anything actively stupid which is half the battle with a 4th line Gritty McGrit.

Now that was for 20 or 30 games or whatever and he can certainly regress. But if he magically could only play wing and you could guarantee a repeat performance over 82 games he'd get a 1-way contract on the UFA market without a problem.

That top 6 and particularly that second line is gonna get bodied hard. It would probably dunk on the bottom-5 physicality teams pretty hard though.

Namestnikov at the deadline, perhaps with retention, has real value. He is a useful, albeit overpaid player.

Namestnikov on the market today without salary retention has no value. Of course, moving salary is the primary reason to consider moving him. Right now, it’s a lose-lose situation.

He stays and get traded in February.

The Rangers did probably kneecap themselves a bit when it comes to clearing bodies by putting themselves in a bad cap situation, but I don't think the lack of movement indicates that there's no market or that these players are worthless. If Vesey can get a 3rd then it stands to reason that Namestnikov should have a bit more value than that.

Vesey at $2.2MM brought back a 3rd in 2021. That would indicate next to no market for the player.

My Idea now would look Something like this:

September 2021 New York Rangers
Kaprizov - Zibanejad - Kravtsov
Panarin - Byfield - Kakko
Andersson - Howden - Chytil
Lemieux - Barron - UFA/Prospect/Trade/Whatver
#13/14 - A couple Tough plugs that can play hockey

Skjei - Trouba
Miller - One of ADA/Lindkvist (the other presumably traded for more assets)
Robertsson - Fox
7D - One of Hajek/Lindgren/Rykov/Reuanen/Keane/Gross...

Shestorkin
Georgiev (If not taken by Seattle)

Rebuild is then over. Presumably lots more organizational depth after trades and 2 more drafts. Plenty of cap space to make shrewd final piece(s) moves. Definitely time to compete ...

Anybody thinking there’s some trades to be made? It would make sense with the plan.

If you're thinking that we'll somehow trade for one of the players on that list, no. We're going to end up buying out at least one contract in order to sign our own RFAs. Most of the guys on that list will cost way more than we can afford.

If anything, maybe we trade Buchnevich and get back a cheaper player, but that's the only thing I could see happening, other than the possibility of trading Kreider and Names.

Many players will be looking for jobs in Europe.

Derick Brassard: Brassard has suffered through quite the decline, from prized deadline acquisition to potential professional tryout candidate in a span of little more than two seasons. As a depth center, however, Brassard can still contribute. Just don’t expect big numbers. The 31-year-old scored just 14 goals and 23 points last season, the worst total of his career.

There were so many Brassard questions for Carpiniello yesterday during The Athletic chat. He was like are you people kidding me. His decline started in his last season with the Rangers and the guy will have a hard time getting a job in the NHL. He was bad in Ottawa. Bad in Pittsburgh. Florida got rid of him as soon as they got him. Brass didn't do much in Colorado.

Gorton made a great deal and some many people here were against that trade. Zibanejad might be named Rangers captain and Brass might be out of the NHL in just three years.

Boyle too. I'd rather just let guys like Fogarty, Nieves and McKegg compete for the spot and see if one of them can run with it.

The only way we’d lose georgiev to Seattle is if we make a side deal with them to expose him so they don’t take someone else. Otherwise he is the only goalie we need to protect since hank is a ufa and Shesty is exempt

This is a crazy offseason. All of these RFA's, and so little money to go around.

If I'm a team with Capspace and/or looking to rebuild I'm licking my chops at what teams could possibly give up to make space.

Can anyone list the upcoming deadlines?
I guess they are two arbitration cases and then there are the days after arbitration/signing to do buyouts. Is that right? So we can expect the call issues sorted by the buyout deadline, in theory. Is that about right?
(Unless JG really fancies himself a tightrope walker).

I think we see a combination of Andersson, Howden, and Strome centering the 3rd and 4th lines. I also don’t see both Kreider and Namestnikov gone immediately. I think we find a way out of Shattenkirk or Smith, even if we pay a price for it. I also think you we need a puck battle winner on the second line. I don’t love Buch/Chytil/Krav for that reason.

This is my preference:

Panarin - Zibanejad - Kravtsov
Buchnevich - Chytil - Kakko
Namestnikov - Andersson - Strome
Lemieux - Howden - Fast
Nieves

Kreider moved now. Names moved at the deadline.

Spooner getting 3 pay Cheques this year lol ..... so basically Him and Belesky costing cap space but that Nash deal still looks good

I recall few people being against Brassard trade. Good times.

Around here it seemed pretty positive. But I bet in Rangers fandom as a whole, which you see more on Twitter, Facebook, etc... people didn't like the deal. Brassard was a fan favorite and the general fan population doesn't fully understand those kinds of moves. Especially not 1 season removed from a President's Trophy and ECF appearance.
