You had me until here. Gorton is very disciplined. If he's sticking to a number for Panarin, he's not going over it. The Rangers would figure out other ways (front loading the contract, NMC, etc) to keep the AAV below $11 million.

I'd be floored if Panarin gets $12 million from us. If he comes here, it's 7 years, and between $10.5 and $11 million AAV.

I do agree and he’ll definitely challenge Connor McDavid’s deal and the Rangers will cave on $12,000,000. Isn’t it funny, like a month ago everyone was complaining about giving Panarin $10,500,000? And now those same posters have flipped their tune and also had said, well $12,000,000 ain’t so bad.

I suspect they may be using fla to drive up price a bit even more so to not make it so obvious he’s coming here. Let me put some conspiracy theory type stuff in your heads but how shady would it look for JD to be at Columbus telling everyone panarin wants nothing to do with us sorry. But they both end up in NYC a couple months later as everyone expected with no drama? Would look shady real shady. Is JD really trying to keep him in Columbus when it’s well known he’s got an outclause to go to NYC where he wants panarin really to be?

I think bringing the other teams into the convo takes a little of that heat off that it is so obvious. Just something to think about

Dallas had a nice little playoff run. They are in win now mode. Clearing some space for a potential Pavelski signing which would really make them a threat.

I think they are talking with Zuccarello’s agent and have him circling back so they can match an offer. They really want him there. With both of those signings they would be a legit contender.

As a bonus, they wouldn’t feel as bad giving up a first rounder to the Rangers because in their mind it would be a late round pick.

The premise of missing out on the player - over 8% is unfathomable to me. If he is the guy (and making this offer to begin with stipulates he IS The guy) you f***ing get it done.
