So far he's either met with or will be meeting with:
Chicago
Florida
Colorado

Nothing on the Rangers.

If after all this deliberation from both sides on Panarin, if the Rangers aren't even given the opportunity to speak with him I'm going to be laughing until next offseason.

New info. Can delete

The Stars and Zuccarello are either apart on term(4 instead of 5) or salary($1M per) or both. Zuccarello will be 35 at the start of the season in his 4th year of a 4 year contract. The Stars have reportedly offered a 4 year contract.

He was having an awful year until January when he stopped moping about not getting a contract extension and feeling slighted because Quinn flew all the way to Sweden to meet with Hank. Zuccarello wasn't part of the trip. Having Zuccarello fly into Sweden or having Quinn go to Norway was part of Quinn's itinerary.

Is Sakic giving Zuccarello more than 4 years? Joe is a little conservative. Zuccarello will be 36 at the start of the 5th season in any contract.

Nill said the plan is for Zuccarello and the Stars to see what is out there and then circle back to each other to see if there is deal to be made.

That still sounds pretty good TBH.

If Trouba comes in at 8.5 and Panarin at 11.5, there isn't room for a full roster even if you trade Vesey+Kreider with no salary coming back, Demote Smith and Belesky and buy out Staal.

You would need to clear another body.

Pretty terrifying when you frame it that way.

Certainly makes it seem like we should stay away.

Did we miss the boat? Though we have/had no room for him.

Ppl wanna take a flyer on a kid with good AHL stats and wheels. Zero risk for them.

We had him the last 3 years and two separate chances in the NHL and he looked like an ECHLer out there. We didn’t miss anything. If he somehow turns into an NHL player then good for him but with our glut of D and his consistent failure at the NHL level while here he didn’t deserve to get any more chances than he did here.

If Dallas didn’t have to give up an unprotected first for him, I think that contract woulda been signed and sealed already

Like I said when the trade happened, why would they give that up for Zucc?

He hasn't been signed because they are about a million apart.
Please

Dallas has the money to sign him. He fit their team like a glove.

Every team is terrified to send out unprotected picks after what happened to Ottawa. In the conference finals one year, in the basement the next

The pick is a bigger reason than the money/term.

I tend to agree with this. Unfortunate but can’t really blame them. Makes sense to sell your fanbase on “the $/term not working” instead of “what if we suck next year.”

One of the reasons I think Kreider will have high interest is that he doesn’t come with any flies on him. A lot of teams have looked the other way on off ice issues when it comes to goal scorers. That’s a big reason why I think he will be in high demand.

One thought (my speculation) Arizona is floating Christian Dvorak’s name out there. He is young center, has a long contract starting this year and the Coyotes need to make room for Hayton this year. He was hurt most of the last season but really played well when he came back. He may be a piece to watch. I assume Rangers have seen a lot of him and may like him.
He was the prospect I most wanted when the Stepan trade was first rumored.

I don’t disparage them at all, I’d do the same thing

A lot easier to chalk it up to the numbers don’t work than “if Seguin or Benn gets injured next year, we’ll be a lottery team”

Also, there’s a reason Gorton and Dallas we’re talking at the draft about potentially swapping the 2019 first for the unprotected 2020.

Given the youth coming up, I'll bet we offered him a 1-year, two-way. It certainly seems within reason that he sees what else is out there. Not all teams are in our situation with D prospects

I am so reluctant to jump into potential cap hell when we finally got out of it. The thought of adding Panarin before we know the cap hit for Trouba and Buchnevich is not easy to digest. If Kreider was dealt with already, it would be easier to accept.

Not a fan of losing leverage and giving away Kreider to make the cap work. A week ago we bent Winnipeg over because of cap issues. Hate to give it away after a glorious 2 weeks.

I'm wrong all the time so it will probably be fine, assuming Panarin happened. I've wanted to sit tight and make value trades after free agency sorted itself out.

There is going to be a market for Kreider regardless.

Now if its a market of places hed be willing to go to? Different story.

Absolute worst case scenario with the cap is a Shattenkirk buyout to eat $5M next year. They are not hamstrung with any of the young or core players they need to re-sign next year.

Say Breadman does sign here, and they keep Kreider. You can make space by buying out Shattenkirk and be left with the following roster:

Bread-Zibs-KK
Kravstov-Chytil-Buch
Kreider-Howden-Strome
Lias-Filpulla-Fast
Lemeuix (Plays a lot of nights by pushing guys in and out of the line-up- If Lias is off, he's scratched.. Kreider is off he gets a "maintenance day")

Move out Vesey, that's digestible. Move out Names, retain if you have to. That's -$4M at the least.

Defense actually improves.

Skjei-Trouba
Hajek-Fox
Staal-DeAngelo

Rykov/Lindgren/Smith push for minutes and get moved up and down from the farm

You trade Kreider at the deadline for a first and a prospect since you can't re-sign him... (Shattenkirk's $5M deadspace next year)... and the kids move up the line-up... while you make the organization better.

You can trade for a piece at the deadline to add forward depth.

Have Trouba eat Seth Jones minutes if Fox and DeAngelo struggle.

So there is a way.... not saying it's realistic because you have maybe 4-5 dependencies (3 are Rookies).

Lol this is the roster you end up with when you refuse to make choices.

I disagree, I see that as a winning scenario.

There is no Sophie's choice to be made. There's no canonical approach imo. You maximize the market... even with your bad contracts. The price you pay.... is having top end ELCs on your NHL roster for a few years.

You say it like you are hearing it from a source. You have done that for years, hence why the post was deleted.

If you had said "I heard on XM nhl radio", it would be a different story as others could corroborate the veracity of your statement.
For the record, I can corroborate this. Heard that Panarin was flying to New York tomorrow to visit the Rangers and Islanders on NHL Network Radio this afternoon.

The #Blackhawks have acquired defenseman Calvin de Haan and forward Aleksi Saarela from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for goaltender Anton Forsberg and defenseman Gustav Forsling.
