One time “stud” prospect Saarela.
Oh what it means to have an actual farm system these days.

I still dont have a problem with the moves the Rangers made back then. Whether it was acquiring MSL, Yandle, or Staal. They tried to win with that group.

They have been able to recover since then by selling some of that core rather than holding onto them forever

This does not mean the same decisions need to apply to Kreider. They could be benefited by keeping him

We did?

The zucc return is garbage we have to pray he stays in Dallas which is looking further and further away at this time.

The Hayes return turned out well because a miracle happened and the pick fell to 20. But by no means were those good returns.

Kreider for a guy like Lemieux and a 27 thru 31 pick is nothing I’d want to move him for.

The Zuccarello return was market value. It was not garbage.

Jiri Hudler returned a 2nd and 4th. Zuccarello, even without any of the conditions, is a better deal than that. This notion that Zuccarello was worth more is ridiculous. A 60 point winger who only played for 1 team is not going to return much at the deadline

not a shock at all. Our chance of getting the extra first was them winning in ot game 7 vs the blues.
They weren't gonna "overpay" and lose a first at the same time on a UFA.
Obviously bummed like the rest of us but the Rangers getting Robertson in the second could easily equal late first round value. It's a consolation I guess.

Really weird trade by Carolina.

Thought they like dehaan who doesn’t make much money.

Letting both their goalies go.

Have a crazy amount of cap space. Weird

They moved deHaan so they can play Fleury. He is not waiver eligible anymore. That clears that issue. Jake Bean is also a LHD.

Faulk probably getting traded too after that meeting he had with the team.

Carolina is still a budget team. They need to watch their payroll, not the cap. Not sure how active they will be in free agency, but this might allow them to get involved with some of the bigger name forwards.

Yeah at the deadline. But that was a trash return for an older rental. That was my point. Trading him the summer before would have been much better return

You assume there was a better offer for him in the summer. That isn't always the case. At the deadline, there's a bigger need for immediate help.

Good move for Chicago.

Also great trade for Carolina who signed De Haan for nothing but money last year

Chicago is trying to rebuild their defense in the same mold as their cup run teams. All fast skating LHD that can carry the puck and join the rush. Not necessarily guys that can add instant offense.

They had a lot of success with a guy like Oduya. De Haan fits in well for them.

Forsling isn't the greatest of skaters.

Seems a bit preemptive if the Rangers haven't even met with him yet, no?

I mean haven’t we all been hearing this for a year? This is like last week when someone in here told me there was zero evidence we had any interest in panarin lol

We've been hearing both sides are interested. Seems like the Rangers, similar to Shattenkirk, have a limit to what they're willing to do, so until they get in a room and talk about that, I'm hesitant to believe it's a done deal

Me neither, just only hated giving up the extra first for MSL, but whatever. I didn’t want staal but we knew after 14 and 15, there was no way they were not gonna add a piece at the TDL.

I remember a lot of tears about Saarela though.

Please

Dallas has the money to sign him. He fit their team like a glove.

Every team is terrified to send out unprotected picks after what happened to Ottawa. In the conference finals one year, in the basement the next

The pick is a bigger reason than the money/term.

I am sure the Rangers would be amendable to adding a condition(not making the playoffs or top 10 protected) to the pick to make it happen instead of getting a 3rd round pick.

Maybe the Stars don't want to give Zuccarello a 5 year contract which takes him to 36. Nearly 37.

How many productive seasons does Zuccarello have left?

If Zuccarello would have agreed to 4 years, the deal would have been done by now.

He wants 5 years. Brooks reported that 4-5 months ago.
