Stinks that the Stars weren't able to sign Zucc before he tests the market. The gamble Gorton took cant be measured until we know for certain if the lil guy will return to Dallas. Was nice to get Robertson with the 2nd pick an all. It s sort of like grabbing an extra first rounder anyway...But its wasn't. Guess there is a chance he will sign in Dallas there but im not holding my breath on it.

I don't think the Rangers are in on Panarin to be honest. It's almost like a formality that they are going to meet with him. Florida seems like the end game for him, and im OK with that.

A formality would be a phone call no? The whole management team fly in tomorrow. There’s a reason for that. Full court press

Guys it was on XM nhl radio. Public knowledge. One of the guys Said panarin was meeting with NYR tomorrow.

You say it like you are hearing it from a source. You have done that for years, hence why the post was deleted.

If you had said "I heard on XM nhl radio", it would be a different story as others could corroborate the veracity of your statement.

So far he's either met with or will be meeting with:
Chicago
Florida
Colorado

Nothing on the Rangers.

If after all this deliberation from both sides on Panarin, if the Rangers aren't even given the opportunity to speak with him I'm going to be laughing until next offseason.

Notice how recently as in maybe the past 2 weeks to a month, it was Rangers will check in on Panarin. Rangers will do due diligence on Panarin. Now even from Brooks article, it’s moving further and further away from what all the media has reported previously.

Anytime I have heard it from a source I’ve said it. There are times I don’t feel comfortable saying something is from a source. Think everyone here knows by now I wouldn’t make something up if it weren’t something I heard. I think people appreciate it but I hear ya

Yeah though the media has pretty much jumped on the Panarin to Florida bandwagon collectively, especially once Q signed there.

I don't think he goes to the Isles unless Lou gets ultra stupid (which is possible.)

Edit: Also if you do sign Panarin, the buy out you use better be on Staal.

Dreger like a week ago said he believes panarin will be a Ranger. So I don’t think the media has come off it. I think the theofanus stuff made many believe he’d go with Bobrovsky to fla.

But who on earth takes the panthers over the Rangers on purpose? Not many regardless of tax breaks.

I say it’s between the Rangers and Fla and we’ll see what’s most important to him. But I still think we are the favorites

Staal absolutely makes the most sense to buyout because they would save more money on the cap doing so (1.2m cap hit each year for 4 years for the buyout vs 5.7m on the books) but I guarantee you the buyout will be used on Smith if they need to buy someone out because they view Staal as a leader in the locker room.

We now - after the 81,5 M set cap - need to save money in order to theoretically sign Panarin. Using buyouts on the usual suspects with their 4 year cap penalties (in order to accomodate this) is not happening. Not much interest for Names and Strome. Fasth is a small hit. Unloading Kreider and Vesey might not be enough with our 4 pending RFAs (including Trouba). Math is a hard subject.

  • No to signing Planarian (new name) & some Conservative yet smart UFA shopping
  • No buyouts this offseason
  • No offer sheets
  • Trade Vesey & Kreider and likely + for the best possible return - thereby hopefully fleecing a cap strapped team or two:s GM via trade(s) in August

Yeah, maybe. I just don't see this one coming to fruition. Prior to the rebuild? I think NYR was a shoe in to land him. Now that were at somewhat of a midway point, im not so sure.

Im also in the camp that if Panarin is an 11 million dollar player in the free agent market then that is a pool that this club shouldn't swim in...for the now.

Which would be dumb because to save max dollars, you can buy out Staal and waive Smith.

The bigger problem I have beyond the dollars is if you're trying to take the next step in developing a team and "winning" games, Staal doesn't help you do that.

Buy out Staal, waive smith, Shatty as an extra.

Boom.

And it was deleted because you aren't vetted. We aren't going through this again. If you have something to share, share the LEGITIMATE source you obtained it from.

Ahh see should we sign panarin is a very different question than are we going to try to sign panarin.

I tend to agree it’s probably not the best guy to invest that kind of money into

Cant agree with this more. Build the team the right way

This was my dream scenario.

If Trouba comes in at 8.5 and Panarin at 11.5, there isn't room for a full roster even if you trade Vesey+Kreider with no salary coming back, Demote Smith and Belesky and buy out Staal.

You would need to clear another body.

For me, the Rangers still lack top end talent even after adding the likes of Kakko and Kravtsov. There's a chance some of our other prospects become that but it's not all that likely.

I have little interest in competing for a wildcard spot next season with the current pieces we have. If we pass on Panarin, we better have more than a mid 1st round pick to show for it. We must either be bad enough to get another high draft pick in 2020 which management doesn't seem interested in doing or add it in other ways such as free agency. Free agents of Panarin's caliber don't hit the open market often. It'd be a disaster in my books if we miss out on Panarin and also miss out on the potential franchise players in the 2020 draft.

Colorado has money to burn.

I think everyone knows they would have to move Kreider, at least half of shattenkirks contract traded or straight buyout and at least one of Vesey or namestnikov to make them both fit.

Next year it’s easier with Vesey namestnikov Strome girardis big cap hit and fast all off the books. Then even easier the following hear of course
