At this point in their careers, and where the game is going, Lemieux will be more effective for us than Reaves.

I want another policeman and not just Lemieux. Lemieux is like an Adam Graves type fighter IMO. This team needs a force b/c the roster is littered with teenagers and players barely over 20 yrs. Not a Reaves fan b/c of his age yet want another physical policeman.

I bet J.D. feels the same way.

Imagine 50% or more of your salary taken away in taxes. That’s all I’m gonna say.
And now imagine that there is a shocking number of people who would react to that with "So what?" because they've arbitrarily decided you make too much money and don't deserve it, and in fact you should be taxed even more.

I know Edge kind of said he doubts it and JG is in a call me if you want mood.

But at the draft I was thinking the same thing. Colorado drafted Newhook and could put together a really nice package.

Newhook and Kaut ( dreaming ) for CK @ 50%

I can’t remember the last time a guy got drafted in the first and immediately dealt.

Further, didn’t the Rangers discuss Kreider for that pick ahead of time? Colorado didn’t want to do it then so why make the pick then do it afterwards. Nice in theory, but I’d be pretty taken aback.

Exactly, Kaut may still be an ask by the Rangers, but, there's no way Newhook is going to be considered by Colorado, or the deal would have been done Friday night.

I’d be surprised too, but keep in mind that Colorado didn’t make that trade at a time where they were hoping to get a top-6 winger for just money. After July 1, if that didn’t happen, then there might be a greater willingness to make something else happen.

Brian Boyle is not a very good player anymore why is there such a fascination with bringing him back? We really want to bring in an old, big, slow player who scores barely over 1 point/60 with his defense trending down?

People love to speculate about re-treads. Fans tend to view these players through the lens of when they played here, rather than what they became after they left. They are generally a pretty bad idea and thankfully rarely occur.

Imagine that the 3 richest Americans have more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population? Just for perspective, 3 Americans have more money than the bottom 100 million+ combined. There's a reason higher taxes on the rich makes sense. It almost always leads to extreme political discontent or revolution if it gets too out of whack.

The taxes aren't the problem, its the NHL's way of handling them that is.

I think he’s a bit old for the role this team needs. Who would you like as a policeman for the kids?

Policeman? This isn't the stone ages. Toughness is not defined by dropping the gloves any longer. IN fact, I'd argue team toughness (which the Rangers displayed a lot of last year despite their lack of an enforcer) is far more important than having one deterrent.

No one is behaving like Marty McSorley did back in the day. There's just no need for police. If you can get your hands on a Wilson type, that's a huge advantage, but otherwise, getting by with the Smith's, Lemiuex's, ADA's of the world is absolutely fine.

I truly wonder when people will come to the realization that having a Colton Orr, Boogaard, Brashear, etc. is no longer a smart move and actually hurts the team.

If Kaut is the big piece coming back mark me as a no thanks. I like the kid wanted him in his draft year. But I much rather keep Kreider who will skate like the wind for another 6 to 8 years easily while his bread and butter continues to evolve to being a monster in front of the net.

Sorry for the added post, but I don't think this is necessarily true. If the Avs determined they would go after Panarin, it makes sense to see what shakes out.

It's certainly possible that Kreider could be a backup plan for teams if they miss out on Panarin. He will come at like 60% of the cost and is a really good winger. Certainly not half as valuable as Panarin.

So it would make sense that if they ended up with a prospect they like but don't necessarily love, that the Rangers could ask for that and he could be moved. Still I'd prefer we look at guys who are a little further along than a guy recently drafted anyway.

That's incredibly optimistic. How many players play at a high level when they're 36. Come on.

The funny thing with Kreider is I tend to hear how his skating isn't likely to diminish over the course of his contract. And that's all well and good.

But even taking skating aside, there's a whole lot more that should cause at least some pause when thinking about paying the man into his mid-30s.

Not that it wouldn't be great to see a 34 year old blowing by players almost half his age. But you're paying for the end result of that speed.

6-8 years? That's extremely optimistic.
