Gorton has a nasty habit of thinking he doesn't need NHL depth every summer followed by having to plug in an absolutely awful player mid-winter because he didn't think he'd need depth.

And it's definitely a Gorton thing because Sather always had everyone and their dog in camp, for better or worse.

Like I said, not getting steamed over it, but worth pointing out.
What is depth? A 6/7 dman...we will have kids to plug into that spot for a few games from the AHL. We don't need to sign and waste money on more 6/7 dmen.

Saw a couple Predictions here...
Mine is we will trade a package including Kreider to Colorado for their 1st rounder. He is a perfect fit with MacKinnon and Rantanen or with Landeskog.
They won't move the 4th and the 16th doesn't excite me for Kreider.

It’s the 50 contract thing.

Rangers are close to it and trades, signings etc.

They were clearing a contract spot
I suppose it's possible. We were talking about it the other day. My only thing is that it's not hard to clear a contract spot if you really need to, and factoring in we're likely to move out more contracts than we take on, I don't really think we'll be above 46 or so.

In the end, not a huge deal. I just think Claesson was some form of an asset we could have made something of. Oh well.

We have zero defensemen in our pipeline who are proven NHL assets and our left side is horrendous as it is.

If we ended up not needing him, then ye makes peanuts in the NHL for a year.

Never subscribed to the notion that we need to burn assets to force rookies into the lineup at gunpoint.

Yeah there’s pretty much always a 2 AHLer for 1 AHLer deal to be had somewhere.

Like I said, I think we sign someone else for the role. Possibly a righty, since there’s still more depth on the left.

It will be interesting to see if a Kreider trade includes any sort of conditional 2020 pick

Would have to be a 2021 unless it was performance related and not based on him re-signing with the new team.

I would be interested to know if the teams who were asking about Kreider were being allowed to talk extension with his camp or not.

Remember if the rangers want to sign some AAAA for Hartford, they would part of that 50 contract number contract?

Plus when your talking trades of established players for picks prospects packages. Always chance you get 2 contracts for 1 moved out.

A couple trades, a couple signings and boom they’re at 50.

The longer they go without moving Kreider, the less likely it is that other moves happen. It's still early I suppose.

What would be really good for the Rangers is if another Western Conference contender pulls a move that puts pressure on the Avs. Come on Yotes up your offer, dang it!

Rangers can play them off each other on the draft floor
