The longer they go without moving Kreider, the less likely it is that other moves happen. It's still early I suppose.

What would be really good for the Rangers is if another Western Conference contender pulls a move that puts pressure on the Avs. Come on Yotes up your offer, dang it!

Deals are being held up bc the salary cap # hasn’t been set yet. There were tweets all morning about it. Washington GM being one of them

Yes it does, there is no way around it, he would have been under contract the moment the team decided not to walk away from the awarded contract. He is not allowed to walk away, nor is he not allowed to not be under that contract until December. Move on from that article, it is not accurate. If it were I'd have @GAGLine yelling at me saying it was. I only have @Tawnos trying to tell me this was a gentlemen's GM agreement.

nice quick one on one interview on NHLN just now with alex newhook

engaging confident young man. seems like a high quality kid who knows what he does well.

The previous thread title made me chuckle. The one dude in the modern HF era that we had that ever called things ahead of time was Dagoon, and everyone chased him off despite the fact he's one of the best dudes I know (behind the shtick). Love that guy.

Ricky FTW.

He might have been a good guy elsewhere, but on here he was a world class jerk. Good riddance.

Not a huge deal but kind of dumb.
I would have kept Freddy. If nothing else you wait until someone has an injury in camp and move him.

If a team can plan so poorly that they need to trade for Marek Mazanec, there will at some point be a market for Claesson who is an actual NHL player.

*roster space

Think 50 contracts related

Saw a couple Predictions here...
Mine is we will trade a package including Kreider to Colorado for their 1st rounder. He is a perfect fit with MacKinnon and Rantanen or with Landeskog.

Kind of expected that and I think it's best for Claesson too. There are younger guys coming along who should replace him. This gives him a chance to catch on with somebody else.
This is a small example of what a good organization does. I think. Maybe every organization does the same, I don't know, but they could have kept him as insurance but it would have been a crap thing to do for the guy's career. I would think players and agents appreciate this kind of thing.
Maybe I'm just overthinking it though

Gorton has a nasty habit of thinking he doesn't need NHL depth every summer followed by having to plug in an absolutely awful player mid-winter because he didn't think he'd need depth.

And it's definitely a Gorton thing because Sather always had everyone and their dog in camp, for better or worse.

Like I said, not getting steamed over it, but worth pointing out.

Regarding Claesson. I bet we’re going to sign a 7D type after July 1 that will make people go “why didn’t we just keep Claesson?”

My only thought is that maybe he didn’t mesh all that well with Quinn, so they decided to give it a shot with someone else for the same role. I don’t mean this in any kind of negative way about either Claesson or Quinn. Just thinking about the realities sometimes of work places and the low level of impact this kind of thing is.

They could have qualified him for substantially less than the $925k max that can be buried in Hartford. So worst case you don't need him, no one wants to trade for him, you waive him and he counts for nothing on the cap.
I edited it. I didn’t mean to say cap space. Meant roster space on the 50 man contract limit

I apologize
