Believe me, I understand what you're talking about. But this year isn't much different than any other year, and the 50 limit hasn't really presented any problems before. And certainly nothing that isn't easily remedied.

But, again, it is what it is.
But this year they want to beef up hartford

I’m not arguing with you. Just talking through what probably goes into the decision proces

The previous thread title made me chuckle. The one dude in the modern HF era that we had that ever called things ahead of time was Dagoon, and everyone chased him off despite the fact he's one of the best dudes I know (behind the shtick). Love that guy.

Ricky FTW.
He'd claim someone was getting traded to about five different teams. When they were traded to one of them, he'd hound people for "insider credit". One of those people who needs the attention and makes people distrust "insider info".

Remember last draft. Everyone was saying why are they taking so many left handed D when they got 3 lefties in the trades (hajek, lindgren, rykov)

Well bc they were eyeing this summer to load up on RD it seems

The silence is deafening on Zucc. Feels unlikely.
More likely is that GM Jim nill doesn’t want to sign him and give gorton another 1st to work with right now. I bet he’s just holding gorton up on that.

Dallas isn’t letting zucc go. They would have to sign someone else and hope it works. Meanwhile the Dallas players took to Zucc right away. Dallas is signing him IMO

That or one of the teams wants to do the switcheroo with the 2019 + 2020 Dallas first round picks. They've tweeted about him like three times this week. I think he stays there.

On the other hand, they believe in how much being wanted means to Zucc. So they’re putting on a PR press.

They may be right too.

Hearing from a source that the Blackhawks may pick Zegras at #3. They apparently “love, love, love” him.

Very tough decision.
I could see that, I heard a few weeks ago (wish I could remember where) that they really liked 6 players at that spot and none of them were Byram

Not an accurate description of him, but okay.

Gorton has a nasty habit of thinking he doesn't need NHL depth every summer followed by having to plug in an absolutely awful player mid-winter because he didn't think he'd need depth.

And it's definitely a Gorton thing because Sather always had everyone and their dog in camp, for better or worse.

Like I said, not getting steamed over it, but worth pointing out.

If teams want spare D they can pick them up as free agents on July 1. So why trade a draft pick for Claesson? There will be a lot of guys available and for cheap.

They may be waiting to see who is available at their 1st this year to see about trading this years pick to remove the condition on next years pick for signing Zuccarello. They may not know the answer to this until their pick is up

It's a thing in the NHL where they don't qualify lower tier arbitration-eligible players and then re-sign them in free agency. Caps did it with DSP. I want to say Pittsburgh did with Tyler Kennedy. Canucks with Yannick Weber. I don't think Claesson will be back, but I'm not going to rule it out completely.
