@Edge do you ever sleep????

I just don’t want this to end like Kramer with you rolled up in a carpet and being tossed into the east river

I got about 4 hours last night, after a 9+ hour flight.

As for the trades. I pass along what they’re discussing. I can’t make it happen any more than I can control space and time.

But regardless of what happens, this board will know they were active and hopefully have a better understanding of what they’re now seeing elsewhere when they read or hear about Kreider, Buch, etc. being on a trade board.

Same with prospects they liked. Whether or not they become Rangers doesn’t change the fact they were viewed favorably and/or had interviews with the team n

Yes, but the Rangers also can look at their roster and see Kakko and Kravtsov on the horizon, a potential mix of Chytil and Andersson depending on how things break, and the entertain the possibility of going after a guy should they become available via free agency or trade.

And again, the Rangers are moving Buch because they have to, or even because they necessarily want to. They’re considering it because there’s another area of the team they think they can improve and they’re accepting the risk the proposal represents.

If the Oilers turn the down flat, they move on.

From the oilers perspective I think the rangers offer is very fair value. They are under a lot of pressure to have a better season next year and the following year. Selecting a player at #8 isn’t going to help them there. They can’t wait until 2021 for zegras or cozens or whoever to join the roster. They have the best player in the world, but if they don’t get better today they are looking at a very real possibility of making the playoffs only 1 time in his first 5 seasons. Their wings are absolute trash and they struggle to attract free agents. Buch has a ton of skill and instantly becomes their #1 wing (which is crazy to say) and he could be under team control for a while. Vesey also provides them with solid depth. Maybe they get a better offer elsewhere, but Gorton’s offer has to be very close to what they are looking for.

The Buch conversations I knew were going to be a little more controversial on here. I think I referred to it as the deal that would have most people inhaling when they heard.

And make no mistake, it’s also the biggest risk for the Rangers. If Buch flanks McDavid and nets 30+ goals and 80 points, and someone likes Namestnikov pots 15-20 goals and 40+ points occasionally jumping up from the third line, which he showed he could do when playing with elite talent in Tampa, that’s a lot to give up - 8th overall pick notwithstanding.

JP doesn’t give you the safest odds either. You’re essentially banking on him having a higher ceiling than the other options you’d potentially receive. But that comes at the cost of having a lower floor.

Of course the upside is, even without Zegras, can you get a Jeff Carter like player in Cozens and salvage something from JP?

For Edmonton, what if Buch continues to be an enigma? What if he’s that 20 goal, 45-50 point guy who always gives you tantalizing visions of more? What if Names isn’t quite the answer in a middle six role?

That’s an example of the type of debates and discussions that take place in these scenarios.

If Cozens is a 60-70 point center, I don’t sweat it.

Hopes for today:

-The rangers find a way to deal both Kreider and Vesey to score extra picks for today. Obviously an additional first would be ideal. This also makes room for us to chase the real prize of the offseason, Breadman.
-they don’t overbid on poolparty. The kid is very unproven. Only take him on a can’t pass deal.
-stay away from Nylander. No need to go all in for this guy, especially after a shaky last season after his hold out. Bringing in this kid would also hurt our chances in free agency.

Amusingly, it seems we're in on both Nylanders.

If Gorton can sign off on two deals tomorrow like this:

Buchnevich + Namestnikov for #8 + JP + Gagner(cap)

Kreider at $3m for #14 + Crouse

That would be the best and most exciting draft I will have ever witnessed. 2, 8 and 14?

I would wet myself. Potential for Cozens or Dach, and Newhook or Krebs.

And the "if" represents the risk. Because at the end of the day it's the Rangers who would be the team giving up all the proven NHL talent. And if the Oilers were to say yes to such a deal, at the very least, we know that talent produced 30 goals and 70 points last season. It's the only given in either side of the equation.

Buch for #8 would be seen as a big win in the threads, yet I'm not so sure it would turn out to be a big win.

Gambles are part of the build, if it did go down, I'm a little bit concerned even at #8 that there would be the right prospect there, and even beyond, that the Rangers would pick the right one. (not trying to say I'd pick the right one, more so that I'd admire the Rangers faith/confidence, just until it materialized it would remain a big question mark)

For me it's an inhale trade. There's some cool upside there, but there is a lot of risk. There's no getting around that. Especially in a scenario where Buch is riding shotgun to McDavid.

Not a 1A center. Not a very good first line center. Not even a great first line center.

We're talking McDavid.

That's more than a little scary.

Because this forum is Hockey's Future and people are always more enamored with prospects and picks then with producing NHL players.

Buch is not only already a decent NHL player, but he has significant upside potential. I really don't think it'd be wise for us to move him for picks. And frankly I think it goes strongly against the speed with which this rebuild has been taking place.

Why would we move a guy who fits the timeline and can help to accelerate the rebuild, for a piece that probably won't hit Broadway for another 2-3 years + need time to marinate in the NHL, assuming he even makes it.

Edmonton isn't interested in Kreider?

Nylander would be great, he looks more motivated than ever and excelles whenever he plays with creative talent. He would outscore everyone on our team next year

Those two guys dont sniff the top 10

Apparently you haven't been reading this thread.

Maybe the deal doesn't go down, but that's what the Rangers and Oilers/Sabres are having extended discussions about.
