I think with the emergency callup, the league decided that the Rangers had the cap to call up replacements, but instead spent it on Kane. I can see the logic from the league as a preventative thing, it's a bit of a loophole.

Edit: Yep

So when the rest of the league cheats, it is fine. When the Rangers try to cheat, it's off limits. Got it.

That means they'll be down a man when they play Boston too. National TV game, and the announcers will have to say why the Rangers can't dress a full lineup, but will be able to explain why the Bruins added 2 more pieces after today by putting Hall and Foligno on LTIR.

It's been 5 or 6 years. Your life is the sum of your experiences. Could get hit by a bus tomorrow.

I know we wasted half a decade, but for a brief, shining moment in time, we had a very highly rated prospects ranking on Hockeys Future. -- Nobody

Building a Cup winner takes a good investment of time, doesn't it?

you mean the same league that allows the coyotes to have almost 20 million on LTIR to meet the cap floor? yeah....

Points to Drury for trying at least.

It does make sense because Kane could have played last night. Oh well. Back to back with a short lineup here we go...
I fail to see the relevance of Kane playing or not last night. Even if he played, we were still a man short.

Edit...didn't mean to pile on, I replied before seeing other posters saying basically the same thing.

I mean I get the logic, but unless there is explicit language in the CBA against doing this, they shouldn't able to get in the way.

If there isn't, its funny how this is the loophole that they choose to try to close and not LTIR which half of the league is exploiting as we speak.

The rich irony of the poverty franchise in Arizona having near 60% of their total cap in contracts for players who don't play for them, but the most valuable franchise in the league can't do an emergency callup after an exicting and highly marketable move is not lost on me.

So f***ing lame. Yet teams can "LTIR" guys & be $10 million over heading into the playoffs. We can't dress Libor f***ing Hajek for a March game against Ottawa. Bravo.

I'm of the opinion that among the East, NYR have gotten the most bang for their buck. Boston is absolutely BONED after this year... We kept the lion's share of our valuable assets.
Absolutely. We got Motte, Kane, Tarasenko, and Mikkola. and gave up very little in terms of roster players and zero prospects. It cost a 1st and at least a 2nd but that's a really good value return.

Yeah for sure.

If the language IS in the CBA though, then yeah the Rangers did this to themselves.

Make it make sense

Every model has its outliers in both directions.

I'd LTIR Lindgren right now if I'm the Rangers, regardless of the severity of the injury, call someone up, and also trade for another D. Clearly Lindgren isn't day-to-day.

Priority #1 should be his health come playoffs. He went through that high ankle sprain all last playoffs. We don't need him dealing with a nagging should/collarbone issue.

It really isn't, it's the way the league is interpreting it. The league thinks they should have made callups with their cap space instead of acquiring Kane. The CBA says this:

(ii) Emergency conditions shall be established when the playing strength of the Loaning Club, by reason of incapacitating injury or illness or by League suspension to its Players is reduced below the level of two (2) goalkeepers, six (6) defensemen and twelve (12) forwards. Proof of the existence of the emergency conditions including the incapacity shall be furnished to the Commissioner of the League upon request made by him.

Letter of the law, they should get the recall, but the league feels the Rangers creates the situation. The league could have let it happen if they wanted to.

I do this just to say 'f you' to the league.

Get another defenseman and 4C if you can

Yeah thats pathetic on their part then.

Nobody knows the severity of the injury but the Rangers. He could play in Boston on Saturday for all we know. He was out of a sling in 2 days and he is somewhat of a cyborg.
