Arizona acquired another bad contract to reach the floor.

Arizona is the blackhole for any revenue. Bettman refuses to move the franchise. The Coyotes will play in the college building for another 3/4 years.

I am not saying anything else about Bettman because i don't want to be banned.

Then you can add cap dumps like Nemeth and Kassian into the equation as well...

Is it better to have one team (Yotes) be the dumping ground for GM mistakes, or have more of the league be uncompetitive because they can't get out of their cap blunders?

I assume that as the GM of a team at the top end of town, a guy like Drury is quite glad he knows their are teams like Arizona that work as a safety valve for when he needs to dump the next M Staal type contract

Just try to visualize the team they plan on trotting out there next season. Way to go Uncle Gary!
Arizona is the NHL's version of Valhalla. Bad contracts go there to die. The league should make a new rule that getting traded to Arizona heals all injuries. What a team they'd have then!

Absolutely wild stuff with the Coyotes. f***ing joke franchise.

I don't have a problem with revenue sharing and other aspects of both the revenue split and the cap itself. I have a problem with the NHL allowing a team like the Coyotes to be an embarrassment to the league, but the Rangers can't get an emergency call up to dress 6 D for a game.

If anything needs to go, its LTIR for career ending players. They should have an insurance in place that can pay out the players contract without having to have this silliness every season and they just retire. If you want to get to the cap floor, you actually have to go get players that play. That would create better parity too, cause then the Coyotes would be getting players that can actually play the game and make them more competitive. Someone like Hornqvist would have been an obvious one.

For the love of all thats holy get that skills coach away from Kane! Dude, wouldn't leave his side ffs....

Our skill coaches are jokes. Its like Ryan Hollwegg and Brandon Prust..

If i was a skilled player why would i listen to those 4th line bums? They had no skill, they made it on will and energy.

Why cant we bring in a guy like Messier or let Graves or any actual player that had skill to teach.

The vast majority of MLB hitting coaches couldn't hit pro pitching with a telephone pole.

It's more important to be a good coach.

Logan Stanley has reportedly requested a trade. Is he the guy people on this board talked about acquiring? Or was that Samberg? I'm getting my Jets defensemen mixed up.
Why though?

For more playing time?

Its Mark Ciaccio, but don't know who that is so it probably kind of proves your point.
I don't think there's too many ex-NHLers lining up to be skills coach though

There are enough skilled hockey players that didn't make it for whatever reason that have much more to offer than this guy that I watch on YouTube and Instagram. Many of them have great hands, great shots, know the mechanics of puck control and deception, etc.. The old boys club has to end eventually.

It is, but sometimes it takes longer than maybe we would like.

And by way of comparison the Blackhawks skills coach is some guy named Kevin Delaney, so it's not like Kane has come from working with All-stars...

I'm beginning to wonder if this guy is unironically a problem.
Dude has been in his position since 2013, Sather brought him in to do a skating session with 3 players and somehow that turned into him being the team's skills coach for a decade.

Obviously we don't know anything about this guy and how he coaches and the players seem to like him, but man, it's noticeable how many of our players are lacking in basic skill areas from time to time. Lots of flubbing received passes, losing pucks while stickhandling, passes made into recipient's skates, etc. Idk just makes you think maybe the organization would notice this and address it.

"Patrick do you have any pointers for me? I'm not really sure what I'm doing"

I'd love to be a fly on the wall with this guy trying to coach Patrick Kane's skill. Patrick Kane is probably one of the most skilled players in the history of the league, may be the best stick handler we've ever seen to be honest.

He's only played 13 games this season but he has missed significant time with injuries, so it's not all healthy scratches. Elliotte Friedman said he heard from someone else that they were surprised he wasn't traded to Nashville for Niederreiter.

I mean, players practice and draw up certain stick movements with the puck. Certainly as a skills coach you can develop some theories on the geometry of a play even if you can't execute them yourself.

It's why I sometimes refer to Adam Fox as a billiards player on skates. All about the angles. One of the moves he uses at the blue-line, where when he's under pressure he bounces the puck up about 2 feet off the boards, dodges left, then recoups the puck once the pressure is past him and wrong-footed, you don't think he practices that motion constantly?

So much of the modern NHL is threading needles and throwing the ball through moving hoops, if you will.

Go for it. Dolan might use his software to upgrade your seats the next time you’re at MSG.

That is a bit of a head scratcher. I can only assume they intend to re-sign him.

Not really. That was just a currency exchange. It can be argued that we made out well on that exchange, but the end result is that we no longer have the player or the pick, and come next season, likely won't have the player we bought with them.

People have been saying we need to bring in a RHD because we have no depth on that side. Lundkvist is gone. Skinner is gone. The only guys we have left are Emberson and Mancini, neither of which are likely to be everyday NHL players.

BTW, anyone wondering if we will make any other moves can stop wondering. CapFriendly finally updated the Rangers numbers:

The only way we can add someone is if we also subtract someone who makes as much or more. I don't see it happening. I think this is the team we go to war with.

We're going to have performance bonus money roll over into next season, but hopefully it won't be that much.

We still can come out in front with that trade though bc of the conditions on the Tarasenko trade
