Roster Building Thread IV (2022-23): Luck of the Irish

No one can predict what these players or the team are going to deserve or want, but Kane especially has an easy path for staying if he wants to take a team friendly deal. He obviously needs work on his hip. If he signs for say 4mil, gets hip surgery and is on LTIR for 3/4 of the season we are talking about a 1 million cap hit.
I don’t think Kane is going to go for that.

Buffalo will have a cap space, a window that's just opening, and Kane grew up a Sabres fan.

They're going to offer him something we can't match.
That may be true, but if you're Kane.......do you so deperately wanna play for the team you rooted for and doesn't look like they'll be ready for big time PO (Cup) aspirations? Or, do you pass up the money that you DON'T NEED for a greater chance for another cup or 2? I dunno, it's a tough choice that only he will make.
OTOH, if he opts for Buffalo and he is the missing piece and able to bring the Sabres
where they haven't been in 12 years, and havent won a series since 2007, then he will be even more of a hero within Western NY.

Why didn't he ask to be traded there then? Not saying you are wrong, but he obviously WANTED to come here...

You can think or not think what you like. It's still a plausible scenario. He obviously wanted to come here. Guess we will see what happens.

From what little we've seen, I'll take Tank on a discount.

I don't know how it's possible or if that he'd take it but he's more of what we need than Kane.

If either of them want to be here, it will have to be well below market value... where their desire to be in NewYork/Win supersedes monetary motives.

I just need to see evidence. I haven’t seen evidence the cap is going to take a big jump. I also haven’t seen evidence either will deserve another contract; obviously I’m not going to get the latter until the playoffs are over, but that’s okay.
Eh I still think Kane could be a possibility, Kane manufactured his way here and clearly wanted to come only to the Rangers. He needs offseason surgery too and will most likely miss a chunk of next season so the Rangers could re-sign him and put him on LTIR and worry about working out the cap when he gets back. If he were willing to sign like a 4mx3 contract or something we could make it work especially if you see Othmann and/or some of the other ELC players making the team so the other holes can be filled very cheap. Vesey at 800k is great for that as well.

I mean it's definitely putting the cart before the horse because it's all really dependent on Kane liking it here and things going well with the team anyway so this is definitely open ended for now and a conversation for after the parade.

Don’t see any evidence to suggest that it’s plausible. By all accounts Kane is a bit of a “purest” too so I don’t see it

He's already making what Chicago was paying him regardless.

The Sabres can afford to outbid us by a lot in the summer.
True, but was he really planning on uprooting his life twice in 6 months? Again he WANTED to come here. Either way I will not be surprised. My original post was in response to someone saying we couldn't afford him. That's a fluid situation.

What's the evidence that it is unlikely? Aside from your subjective take on it. He wanted to come here, there is a reasonable path for him to stay here if he (as well as the team) so desires. That is all I'm saying, I'm not sure why that is so outlandish. Hahahaha. My original post even had a "its too early to know what either side WILL want or deserve" caveat...

If you haven't seen evidence, you haven't been looking.

There's only roughly $70M left in escrow. ( that number is from the holidays )

Bettman undersells and over delivers. Revenue will exceed $6B. How they go about raising the cap is yet to be determined... WIll it go up the $8-10M in one season, to coincide with the 50/50 split, or will they decide to spread it out over a few years?

If Revenue misses, that would be catastrophic for the NHL

The only thing holding Kane from playing here is a good team in a good area, that has cap space to outbid us and give him multiple years.

Has he ever done this before?

Has this happened, or have three been saying it’s going to happen and it hasn’t happened. There’s no evidence. a bunch of TV deals are folding too with the Ballys bankruptcy. I don’t think there is a ton of reason to be optimistic about this

Bally will have zero effect on revenue this season.

They blew past last years 'league projected' revenue. They projected 4.8B? They ended with 5.4B. That's a $600M beat. ( could be off on some of these numbers, it's all from memory )

They purposefully are conservative with their estimations. I think they're estimating 5.7B in revenue this season... They'd need to beat that by around $150M, for the players to pay off the escrow. I like those chances.

I wouldn't be surprised for Revenues to be in the low 6's.

They must be getting cold over there because that window has been opening for years

And that hasn’t matted yet either

Has he ever requested a trade before to a specific team and then left that team? As I said the the path is there if the team and player want to pursue it.
Okay so there’s no evidence until it happens. Got it

Ahahaha. Or until it doesn't. There never is is there? All I ever said is it was a path. I never made a prediction, my brother. It's all good.

The "move on from Panarin" meme is quickly becoming not my favorite.

If you wanna watch this team "backcheck hard against Boston" or whatever the f*** to a 31-31-10 record without this guy, leave me out.
Yeah, plus his microstats are still elite as well. He might be frustrating with turning the puck over and whatever but moving him to elevate Lafreniere just makes the team worse.
