Told you clutch and grab is back with a vengeance
NFL dealt with something similar, they re-emphasized illegal contact and it further changed the game.

I think the problem is that vet savvy teams have learned to interfere/impede without crossing that 'gray line'... Impeding progress on a forecheck is obvious. It's how the Tampa's and Piles play in the playoffs.

If they're doing it when the puck has been dumped behind them, it needs to be called.

Not clutch and grab per say. Good teams abuse interference like mother f***er. Impeding progress. Skating into other plays lanes. Big time off the faceoff. I guess in a sense it is the new age clutch and grab.

EDIT: See above. Haha

Id rather have team success with Lafreniere in a lesser role as a 21 year old with the intenion that he'll be one of the go-to guys when Panarin or Kreider are gone (which is on the horizon). I mean if he was currently producing at a Stutzle type level one of he, Chytil or Miller would be gone for sure this summer. I just think the hyperbole of him being talentless or that the Rangers are ruining him somehow is based on part of the fanbase wanting to be able to brag about our high draft picks.
Yeah, Laf will be just fine, people just aren't good with delayed gratification, and in some cases I guess just feel a 21 year old player is what he is going to be.
At this moment Stutzle's EV scoring is 43 points, Laf's is 28. And if you compare TOI and regular linemates that gap doesn't seem gigantic. By the time they are both in their primes, Laf, IMO, will be the more valuable player. Stutzle is for now. And that's fine, as you said, the NYR don't need Laf to be THE guy yet. And as it turns out the cap would be way more f***ed if he was.

So what coaching does the caveman do during our practise? Looking at the Canucks during just a game day skate today they're drawing stuff with markers showing players what to do, doing moderately intense drills, and have the Sedins actively instructing players

Every clip we see from our team they're just skating around casually taking shots, and barely anybody shows up to game day skates. Hell, the clips from practise don't look much different from the game day skates.

Ok? I was asking him how he thinks the sky is falling, which is the exact hyperbole you're referring to.

No team is perfect but he sky is not falling. Sorry if thats too much underreaction lol. I usually stay away after a couple losses in a row because it's a big pity party and the discussion is pointless ("Gallant is an idiot and the lines I like will definitely work!"). I spend way too much of my time watching and caring about this team, specifically over the past 18 months, to not think they are going to be just fine.
Wasn’t referring to his comment exactly, I just you often combating some valid criticism
That's why players love playing for Gallant
That’s also why they look about as organized as a local PTA meeting

You're basing the Rangers "bad" practice habits on the 20 second videos the official twitter account or one of the intrepid beat writers post? You may be on to something though, they always made a point to show Kravtsov working hard after practice but he never got any better

And it looks like it really has helped Vancouver this year in the standings.

Game day skates are going away just like BP in baseball as the season goes on. Coaches are realizing that it is better to allow for more rest as the season goes on as opposed to trying to get extra work in as rest over a long season will improve play more than that little bit of work. There is only so much gas in ones tank over a long season. Every little bit you can save is important. They are nice for the players who aren't playing regularly. They are nice for a goalie to get some time to work with their goalie coach. Past that, most of what can be accomplished for a pro can be handled in video sessions. If the players can't handle that and need higher intensity game day skates that walk through systems, then I would worry a lot about that player.

I thought this was a discussion forum? Why can't I push back on criticism if I don't agree with it? If you don't like what I say you put me on ignore, I wont hold it against you

One point in 4 games for Vancouver is roughly the same production he had this year as a Ranger.

Huh. Surpris..., no, it's really not.

Technically, the scientific definition of "sky" is an unobstructed view from Earth's surface.

Hence, there really is no sky, it's just the endless void out there.

So it can't fall.

Mankind would be happier as a whole if more people looked at it this way lol

If "sky" is an unobstructed view, and clouds are material objects which obstruct the view, then "clouds in the sky" is an oxymoron.

These are the things I think about during four-day breaks.

It beats talking about the team's practice habits

"Canucks practice" is also an oxymoron.
I mean they’ve got Tocchet now. So they likely practice clutching+grabbing, cross checks in the crease, and how to dump in without chasing.
He’s probably also carefully coaching hughes on how to dive in front of shots.

Idk man I don’t think left to their own devices they’d be playing this dumbed down boring caveman hockey
They’d be playing like this

Coach should sit them down and show them old videos of themselves, videos of analysts talking about them as if they’re the next big thing and then tell them they f***ing suck and to play like what got them drafted so high. Tell them to disregard “playing the right way” grit, defense, and whatever other bullshit Gallant is telling them to do and just play their game

I agree with Lafreniere but that video of Kakko just shows a lot of his current issues, he's got a bad case of the Gauthiers where he wants to walk the puck right into the net. I still like the player but he's gotta start shooting more, much like the rest of this team.

It is what it is at this point.

I think Gallant is too hands off and too dated in tactics for modern day hockey.

It's not some massive conspiracy... Does it look like we practice? Does it look like there's a tactical gameplan being executed?

Kane with Panarin on the PP makes a ton of sense. ES…still tbc.

Unpopular opinion but I think Miller stinks on the PP. I love his game offensively at even strength but something about being up top on the PP he just seems indecisive and clumsy, his passes are very often in people's skates. A lot of times he gets the puck up top and it seems like he's not sure what to do with it. He's not great getting pucks through in traffic and he's not particularly good at holding the blue line.

I may be on an island here but I think Trouba is actually better on the PP than Miller at this point in time. I was all for getting Trouba off the unit and putting Miller in his spot but what I saw wasn't really that impressive. Again, just my opinion.

My major concern with Trouba up top on the PP is he's so slow that he's going to lead to breakaways and odd man rushes against. Fox isn't fast either but he's so elite at holding the blue line and making insane passes with pressure in his face that it rarely happens, Trouba is way more likely to be picked off or have a shot blocked and them go the other way and in those situations he skates like Dan Girardi with his skates on the wrong feet.
I’d probably just leave Fox out there for the whole 2 mins.
