Is the fascination with Thomas purely a buy-low candidate?

Yes, and No. We need centers. We have too many quality defensive prospects. Thomas isn’t some weak, one trick pony. He’s a good player. If it costs us Robertson, you make that trade.

thought he was drafted as a Center. Big kid though.

Love Pod. Kid is a bull. But he’s very much a winger.

Robert Thomas was drafted the same year as Chytil. He outscored Chytil by A LOT last year. It wasn’t close. He had a down year. Would we be interested in another Chytil? Of course. If the Rangers are looking for a long term solution at 2/3C a combination is a pretty solid bet. They’re both super cheap next season so I’d look for a veteran center to subsidize that group. Someone like Bonino for a season.

If you trade for thomas it's to fill the 3c spot if chytil and strome are gone with a new top center walking into that top 6. Projecting chytil as your 2c and a multi year underachieving Thomas backing him up is not the recipe to see this team "take the next steps."

The chatter from the beat writers is Chytil is gonna be moved to the wing if he’s still here. I imagine that 3RW spot for Kravtsov or Chytil depending on who gets dealt

And again that design isn't consistent with a team taking the next step. Keeping a player to put on the wings that are already very crowded and the player coming in would do nothing to change the type of players on the team. Hopefully it's just silly speculation and Drury is keeping his plan close to the vest

Sounds like he’s better than another Chytil though?

Re: Edmonton...I don’t think they are moving on from their big guys but if they were ever stupid enough to let Dave Tippett go, he’s the guy I would want to coach the Rangers. I watched him knit smoke year after year in Arizona with undermanned rosters. Edmonton’s roster looks like a third world country.

Tippett is excellent developing young players and always builds a strong team from the back end out. For many years, I’ve felt he was the best coach in the NHL.
What do you even do with the Oilers right now? The only players they have with a lot of value are the two players they can’t trade lol

What is even wrong with another Chytil? People have this insane dislike of "redundancy" when all that generally means is having another good player. If Chytil is a good player why wouldn't I want someone else just like him?
I’m just joking with him because he listed reasons why a player is better than Chytil and then said they’re like the same

Chytil, Thomas, at some point some young center(s) need to PP or PK, hopefully both.

Not saying that as a downer, just would need to happen if they went with something like that.

Thomas is more of a RW than a C, but the skill he'd add that we're lacking is someone that's an absolute buzzsaw of a skater and a monster in the transition game; Kyrou is too. He has the type of speed that can consistently beat players to loose pucks and win possession and get controlled entry into the offensive zone with the puck, and he's in the top tier of setting up high-danger scoring chances. I don't think he'd be a C here, but he definitely would be a great option as a RW to slot behind Kakko for the next 5-7 years.

I'm not really sure why STL would move him to be honest, but I'd definitely be interested if they're set on moving Buchnevich. We're sorely missing that type of skater in our entire organization.

Another fun idea to spitball is something around Kreider for Schenn, since they're matching contracts. STL probably doesn't do that though, even with an add to even up the value.
