By the way are Tony and Lemieux skating with their teammates at informals right now? Everyone should be there skating right after Labor Day. If they’re not they’re already behind. This is starting to look very bad on the two of them. Sorry fellas but you haven’t done enough yet. You have zero leverage. Time to try and squeeze a few more nickels out if possible but You need to get on the ice and sign your QOs if need be. You aren’t the Marners of the world. You are virtual nobodies to everyone outside of this message board even if we know how good you can be.

Not to mention the 2 of them are on their third teams before their 24th bdays. It’s a bad bad look to piss this management staff off any further.

I'm leaning towards it being mutual right now between Gorton and them. They may have already decided on a couple potential deals, but need to see how training camp and pre-season work out in order to determine if they swing a couple year contract or if they need to take the cheaper option for this season.

There's a better chance that that is true for ADA than Lemieux, but even if it is; we're tight enough to the cap that one of their contracts could easily affect the other's.

Your points are fair, but just on this, Lemieux is on his second team. No big deal here, as he was a prospect that was traded for an established player by a team that had Cup aspirations. And has not nearly had the issues that ADA has had in his other stops.

I will never fault a player or team for doing what they believe to be in their own best interest.

I am skeptical however that sitting out for significant time helps either DeAngelo or Lemieux maximize their value now or a year from now.

No, the long lost better cousin.

Wade is supplying the whole family with dollars that he made by not marching into the GM's office to announce his retirement once his playing level deteriorated.

Wade played another year in the NHL after his Rangers contract was over. His situation was more about his cap hit than it was his ability to actually play at an NHL level. He retired at the right time and really made the best of a bad situation. He did think about retiring rather than playing in the AHL but he manned, swallowed his pride, and put his best foot forward for the 'Pack/Whale. He should get credit for handling it the way that he did.

And, not that I want to get all sanctimonious or on the soap box or whatever, but players play because they love the game as well as because of the contracts they play for. If a player retires early because he recognizes that the fire, or the performance level that they expect from themselves isn't there anymore, then kudos to them. Of course it's not going to happen that way a whole lot, but I don't think any of us would rush into retiring early either - for the money, for the love of the game, for your teammates, etc... It can't be easy to walk away. I do, however, think that Lundqvist would be in this camp if he isn't satisfied with his play. Hopefully, it's not an issue that presents itself.

Not defending them, but most of the time in cases like this it's the agent telling them what to do. The agents make it a point of being the bad guy so the player can "just focus on hockey." It's their job to play hockey and the agents job to get them as much money as possible. I'm sure both guys have been skating on their own. Technically, they might not be allowed to be around the team.

They aren't under contract so I doubt they are skating with them.

How many times have we faced Philly with total goon squads in preseason? Are we playing Philly this year in PS?
Opening night for regular season*

He is very likely here to satisfy the vet requirement for preseason and not much else.

Also, once again, very likely that coaches/GMs don't throw in "goon squads" on their preseason rosters and mess up their own roster building/talent evaluation just for the sake of hurting opposing teams players. Why de-rail your own team like that? Very dumb.

FWIW- Haley was taking face-offs and getting minutes against the Blues in the WCF….then again, the Sharks did lose.

I remember watching and hearing Haley's name and thinking to myself each time, 'wtf is Haley doing in the 2019 WCF?'

Eh, we've seen players skate with the team in the past until actual training camp takes place. Right now it's all unofficial and guys without contracts often still practice/skate with the rest of the team
