I would not be the least bit surprised if the Rangers interest in Eichel has cooled for right now.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing either.

I wish I could like this post x 10.

The neck injury is not good not to mention the cracked ribs as a secondary injury and he doesn't change the dynamic of the team in any way.

I think there's a huge disconnect in what the message board thinks is available trades and what there are.

With regards to McDonagh, it apparently was a 1 team race with Toronto offering confirmed slug Jeremy Bracco if you want to consider that a second offer. It doesn't occur to people teams didn't pursue McDonagh. Not surprising they took a meh deal if that's all that was out there. In fact, that's what many of the same rage posters say you should do, as they dispassionately look at the NHL20 trade meter.
Exactly. I think had he traded Kreider we would've been underwhelmed and Gorts would've been crucified here.

I don't agree w that contract but if the deal isn't there, it isn't there. Nothing you can do.

I wouldn't read too much into "no interest" rumors, starting a negotiation by downplaying interest is standard.

I'm not on the Eichel hype train whatsoever, but the Rangers have some serious decisions to make about the long term situation at C. Whichever way they go it will take some reshuffling/trades to sort it out.

A big trade like for Eichel is pretty reflexive for a big market team. With "Elder statesman" Sather behind rookie President Drury and rookie GM Drury, and with Dolan lurking in the wing, I wouldn't rule anything out (unfortunately).

The Rangers' brass could easily talk themselves into an Eichel as MacK, Kakko as Rants and Laf/Panarin as Landeskog first line projection.

Laf - Zib - Buch as 2nd line
3rd & 4th lines fixed along with D stabilization - and in 2 years (after some finetuning of the roster and kid growth) the Rangers will be a serious playoff force.

The problem with that is the cap with mika.
Eichel is a cost certainty but Mika has his contact up at the end of the year. If mika wants an 8m contract, i dont think we can do it with the upcoming RFA's of kakko and laf.
So you then have to figure out a mika deal to move him while acquiring a replacement for him.

And FOX

Fox I'm less concerned with. Fox gave up a bunch of leverage by forcing his way here. I'm not saying hes going to make less than lindgren, but I can easily see him taking a reasonable deal to keep costs down knowing that's how you win cups.

That and I also kind of don't care what he makes.

He's one of those "figure it later" players. He's that good.

Eichel is un- tradeable to anyone until he can prove he has no long lasting affects from his neck injury. Not 1 nhl club is going to give up a quality asset for a potentially damaged 60 million dollar investment with a NMC kicking in in a year

If we can get fox for anything under 8 a year for 8 years that’s a win in my book. It would be a hell of a start to Drury’s tenure as well

@Edge does any early exit from Florida change anything on the Barkov front?
It’s all up to Barkov. If he goes FA the rangers are going to offer him a ton of cash. That’s clear as daylight. I’m hoping with a full season next year, Florida bounces back to earth. I think with the proper divisions and an 82 game work load, they aren’t a playoff team and Barkov sees that and decides to go to Free Agency.
Maybe this little taste of the playoffs has lit a fire inside him, and he will realize maybe his best course of action isn’t to resign long term with FLA if he wants to play in the playoffs every year. Fans can hope at least lol

David Quinn deserves second NHL coaching chance after firing
Apparently extremely late to the party on this, but there is an undercurrent suggesting Joel Quenneville has his sights set on moving to Seattle to become the coach of the Kraken once his season is over with Florida, which might explain why Seattle general manager Ron Francis has moved so slowly on this hiring.
If the Puddy Tats let Quenneville get away, and certainly so if this is related to money, then perhaps we should all rethink whether Aleksander Barkov is a slam-dunk to re-up with the Panthers before he becomes eligible to hit the open market a year from July.
if there’s even *a chance* that Florida can’t hold on to Barkov and/or Quenneville, we need to be all-in on either/both.

Barkov will sign an extension this summer, and FLA's long term playoff hopes are pretty darn good. They are missing their #1 D and for some reason felt obligated to player their 3rd best G ($ and optics).

Finally, let’s hope that neither Turner nor ESPN, the networks that will split the NHL’s national package beginning next year, would cut away from a star player berating his team’s goaltender after a gaffe in overtime as Alex Ovechkin did to Ilya Samsonov immediately following the Capitals’ Game 3 defeat to the Bruins.
And as that scene unfolded, all I was thinking was that Ovechkin was fortunate that the goalie wasn’t Alexandar Georgiev.
ZING!

They are a paper tiger. Ekblad is not the reason they don't look like they belong.
