Sam Lafferty is my guy for 4C upgrade.

signed for another year at a very reasonable 1.15, has wheels, an edge and can PK.

He's basically a supercharged version of Motte
My main concern is that he also seems like one of the most likely candidates for a team to completely overpay for him

Hextall looking to improve his third line

Hextall Seems to Indicate Penguins Trade for 3rd Line, Won’t Dump Top Pick

Trocheck is from Pittsburgh. Goodrow is from Toronto. Toronto is a 1 hr direct flight or a 5 hr drive from Pittsburgh. Would either waive for a trade to play with Crosby and co?

Trocheck is a good player on a valuable contract, but Chytil has taken 2C. Trocheck doesn't have chemistry with Panarin. These were the reasons we acquired him. He now is on the 3rd line.

Goodrow was signed to be a top-9 player, but he finds himself on the 4th line about as often. He takes up too much cap as a mostly bottom-6 player.

What would Pittsburgh part with to acquire one or both of Trocheck and Goodrow? They would have to clear an equal amount of salary for either this season, but have over $16m coming off their books after this season.

I'd have no problem giving up Kravtsov for him.

I figure his value is probably 3rd and I can't imagine Krav would return much more than that.

If a team wants to shoot Chicago a second then good luck with that.

I really don't understand the vitriol for Trochek at all

My theory is that he hasn't been here long enough to build up a reservoir of positive affect like other high paid veterans (Trouba hitd, Kreider 50 goals, Panarin series winning goals)

We've got fewer fond memories of him and so when there are stretches when he is quiet offensively he becomes the intuitive scapegoat.

Get back to me in 7 years
To be fair we signed him with the goal of winning a cup over the next 3-4 seasons, so the back end of the contract, while it may be unfortunate, is treated with the same indifference that the final years of the Richards contract were.

It doesn't matter what any player has done in the past. This is a what have you done for me lately crowd. Trouba, Kreider, and Panarin have all been consistent whipping boys this year.

7 years?! You mean 3 years after his contract is movable? And what, 2 years after a big Cap boom? Even if the Cap rise for those 2 or 3 years is not as big as expected, he's going to have a minimal cap hit for an effective 3C with ton of experience to bring to a team. He would fit well on another team (or ours) as a 3C at that point.

His contract really isn't bad and I think he's 100% an upgrade of Strome. We upgraded big time with those transactions.

I know you wouldn’t, but that’s bad value for him. A change-of-scenery move like for Tomasino would be way better and actually help the team

I'd look to trade Goodrow and one of Kreider or Trocheck this offseason.

Tara is 31 and coming off $7.5m. He isn't making that on his next contract, especially if it's longer than one year, otherwise he's going to live someplace he'd rather not. I think he would take less to play in NYC and potentially on a line with Panarin.
Tara is 31 and is on pace to be around 70 points. He’s also playing on a bad blues team, so might see a bump in production with a new team.
Gm’s love to give big contracts to 30 year olds.
Kadri had an 80pt season once (career he’s more like 50ish) and is making 7m.
Tara is a career 70ish points/season.
I’d say tarasenko gets 7m on the open market

Panarin - Zibanejad - TBD
Lafreniere - Chytil - Kakko
Kreider - Trocheck - Vesey
Cuylle - Goodrow - Blais

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
TBD - Schneider
I think I'd go Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier as my 4th line, but yeah this is generally looking how it should be.

Acquire someone to play with Mika and Panarin, someone to pair with Schneider and another bottom 6 guy for depth and who can slot in to the 4th line.

Because he didn’t do the one thing we expected him to do? Center Panarin and give that line a solid defensive core.
His play and cap hit are fine. Just that had we also known Chytil would have the year he’s having, we’d have saved a lot of money by not offering the contract, locking Kakko up and then locking Chytil up.

$7m is a decrease from his last contract. If given 2-3 years, I bet that number could be closer to 6. He's not in a great position for a big UFA contract.

Agree with this, but push back on 'vitriol'. I haven't seen any here for Trocheck. He's a good player on a valuable contract, but he isn't clicking with Panarin and Chytil took the spot we signed Trocheck to fill.

Kreider/Trocheck/Vesey(Goodrow) is a great great third line, but its preventing us from improving our top-6.

But it's like having depth at center is a bad thing. Zibanejad and Chytil have injury histories. Why is having a good group of 3 centers bad? He isn't overpaid. He slots in on both the 2nd and 3rd line well. His faceoff numbers are good. He adds speed and a physical presence to the top-9. I'm confused.

I think people have a short memory when it comes to Chytl, he is our most often injured player. He strings some good games together and then 'something' happens to him.

Trochek is a great insurance policy.

The Rangers have a great first line center and TWO legit second line centers... being strong down the middle is needed to go all the way

I Hope Fil stays healthy

Fans worry way too much about the cap. They will find a way to get all the kids signed
