Mika’s cap hit is also 8.5 million. Makes me appreciate his contract even more. I don’t understand it. Horvat’s career high season was 61 points.
Mika's AAV stayed down because of the overbearing NMC that nobody wanted to give out. Can't have your cake and eat it too. I liked what we did with Mika.

The market is there for Horvat. It doesn't matter that he's overrated if every front office overrates him. They set the market.

Didn't make sense for the Islanders to not sign after what they gave up.

I would have stayed away entirely.

The NHL only has itself to blame when they made the braindead decision to choose Versus as its primary tv partner. They threw all chances of visibility out the window back then, and they’re scraping their way back to relevancy as other sports are becoming more popular. Bettman only has himself to blame too.
Agree but ironically, I liked the versus broadcasts lol

Horvat is not worth 8.5M in the first place let alone 8.5M, a first round pick, a prospect, and a middle six wing.

That's a good way to look at it. Isles hosed themselves for a guy who is likely having his best season that he'll ever have right now. Huge overpayment IMHO.

Kravtsov is not afraid of those areas and does the same. he just gets manhandled.

Even after getting dummied over and over again, I respect that he still gets in there.

Barbashev is just older and stronger. I'm not giving up Kravtsov for him
As I said he does some of those things, ineffectively. But he just isn’t a player who bangs bodies. It hasn’t been and isn’t part of his game. Not the way Barbashev does it. They are different players in that regard. And that is a pretty major difference when you are looking for a player to fill a role on the 3rd line. Not the same players. And as far as doing the rest of things effectively at the NHL level, yeah maybe Kravtsov will get there, or maybe he won’t, but Barbashev is already there and then some, again for the role we are looking for.

Now whether I would give Kravtsov up for Barbashev that’s a different conversation. I don’t know if I feel entirely comfortable with it.

Yeah have no issues with the Mika contract. NMC could be an issue but not worried about it. I just think it’s too much for a guy who only hit 61 points as a career high. Granted he’ll top that this year, but still.

I haven‘t watched him enough to see how good he is on Defense, but apparently he is just ok from what I read? Mika for one is a big part of our PK success and is very good on defense.

8 year deals for pending ufas during a career season tend not to go well for the team. That said, I think horvat will be better for the isles than for Vancouver. Maybe not scoring wise, but I think his defense got torched from a numbers perspective bc of the team he was on.

He's fine at even strength. People think he's really good because he's just one of those players.

You could honestly say the same of Mika but Mika produces more, and can actually PK.

Horvat is pretty bad at the PK because he's slow.

In Horvat's defense, centers in general are overrated defensively.

Centers just don't have the defensive impacts they're made out to have, especially top six centers, with some exceptions.

So is Kravtsov.

I’m not even crazy about Barbashev, but he’s an actual decent NHL player.
Kravtsov is not capable of playing Gallant hockey at his current weight/strength. No one over rates Kravtsov besides Ed.

What's Barbashev going to do here? What role is he filling?

If we are trading Kravtsov to the blues I would want Tarasenko (I know we may have to make a small add...not a first!!!). Even if he hasn't done much to date we can not hand over two potential top 6 wingers for not much (no offense to Barbashev) in return.

He's a top nine winger which we have like ,one and half of at even strength.

I'm not advocating for him specifically but that would be the reason.

I’m not advocating Barbashev. I’m not sure there’s a fit for him here either.

Just saying he’s way better than Kravtsov. Lack of weight is just one of many issues for him.

If we're getting a middle6/3rd liner, LaBanc is the guy. He does everything we need and drives play well for what he is.

Kreider Trocheck LaBanc is a very strong line.

Quinn has done us some favors

Have all the terms come out for the Horvat deal? I expect some sort of NMC in there.

Maybe we shouldn’t by trying to force our players to be playing “Gallant hockey”
Gallant hockey

I think Labanc would be a very nice acquisition but then I realize he's almost a 5 million cap hit for next year.
