Panarin reportedly wants to play with Kane. Wonderful. Kane will be a free agent this summer. We don't know where he will sign but Drury knows where Panarin will waive his NMC to play with Kane again. I heard on a podcast(Serevalli)months ago that Kane doesn't want to change teams twice. He doesn’t want to be traded to team X on March 3 and sign with another team in July. He wants a contract extension as part of the trade. Kane will eventually need hip surgery. He can delay the surgery for after the season but it will bleed into next season. Any team signing him in the summer will probably not have Kane ready for the start of camp or the season. Hip surgery isn't easy to recover from.
If that's true, then the Meier rumours actually start to make sense.

Meier for Panarin, and the assets we'd give up/acquire in the moves would, more or less, be a wash, and we'd get an extra couple million in cap space to play with. Does that make us a better team? Maybe.

any reports on Kane landing spots?

maybe it could be tied to Quennville?

That does not make sense. If you trade assets to get Meier and Panarin won’t waive his NMC, you’re stuck with Panarin, have to let Meier walk/give him away, or some valuable young players become cap casualties, and you lost a ton of assets. That’s way too risky of an investment.

Let’s say SJ eats 50 on Bonino and takes Blais W a 4th

Rangers actually gain 500 k ish in space

May have to give a better pick for that though

He was their third forward in TOI for one of the cup wins if I remember right - clearly Cooper didn’t think he was by far the worst player on that line.

It’s also fine to admit that you don’t like something that happened without having to twist it into the organization being monumentally clueless
Points are not everything when it comes to hockey . We all know though that many use it as their #1 measuring stick in determining the worth of a player .....Myself....he adds some leadership skills which are worth more than points in some games and especially in the playoffs with a roster of kids . When he has to go , he will go....same as Lindgren . They will both have done their jobs while here and hopefully a couple of our young kids have watched and learned under them like Laf and Miller/Schneider . In a flat cap....that is how it goes .

Panarin would never waive for the Sharks lol.

Trading for Kane is such a Slats thing to do and the Rangers will set themselves back because of it.

The window is open, keep it open as wide as possible. Keep the firsts, possibly package them together to move up a bit and find a faller in a deep draft. Who knows, maybe you strike gold there and the kid is in the lineup in 2-3 years instead of chasing your tail every year.

I'd rather take that shot then bring in an aging superstar who needs hip surgery, will make this team worse 5on5 and will cost a ton of futures.

What about DeBrincat? Havent heard too much about him but he is in basically the same situation as Meier. Is he signing in Ottawa?

Similar situation as Meier where he’s an impending RFA with a huge QO, and I can’t see OTT letting him go after making the splash to get him this summer

Yeah not so much for the Rangers because of the cap stuff (although id give up more for DeBrincat than Meier because hes younger and imo a better player). Just surprising that he is still unsigned and Ottawa is having another bad season that he's not discussed more.

People say the Rangers like box office names because it's Broadway. The hockey "insiders" from Canada can't stop talking about Kane. There are Rangers fan who want this guy. They don’t post here but they are on other sites.
Every single casual Rangers fan wants Kane, he's a brand name. They're not privy to Machinhead's bar graphs showing how negative his play has become and would likely respond 'game isn't played on spreadsheets dofus'

Lindgren is not going anywhere. a 24yo top 4 defender who is foxs key partner, the only guy who takes the front of the net physically, the guy who does it all for his team all at 3m per is not going to be a cap casualty. He will be resigned after this contract, bring him to 30 then trade him as he is breaking down.
Do you know what a Devils Advocate is? And are you going to share any more info from your daily cup of coffee with Drury since you so emphatically know exactly what's going to happen?

It's ok that someone as a devil's advocate point bring up someone that could on paper be a Cap casualty candidate. I love Lindgren too, but whether you like it or not, he's the 4th most important defensemen at best on the team. And we have no idea what he will ask for salary wise, and if he will realistically see it as a possible payday. I hope he wants to take a cheap contract that conveniently takes him to 28-30. We have no idea

There are a lot of variables. As I said in my post anyways, I think it's more likely that Goodrow is an attractive tradeable asset to another team in the offseason.

Kane to Rangers doesn't make sense for the Rangers. I think it has legs because it's the same old OMG BIG STAR WANTS TO PLAY FOR RANGERS schtick that surrounds every pending UFA every deadline every year. Unless he's dirt cheap, and he won't be, Drury isn't trading a bunch of assets for a gimped old(ish) UFA that's having the worst year of his career.

The absolute most I see Drury giving up is a 2nd that can become a 1st based on how deep into the playoffs we go and maybe a B prospect. If it's going to Fix Panarin it's worth exploring, because figuring him out offensively is the top priority. But, as Ive said, the extent of the injury is a major concern.

tbh if i had to waste assets on anyone from that Chicago team, i'd give up a pair of 3rds for Toews with 75% retention, throw him onto the 3rd line with Trocheck and Kreider.

Who is worth more, RFA Meier or a retained Panarin (assuming NMC is worked out).

Panarin wouldn’t waive for the Sharks, but the Sharks might not be the final destination.

Panarin for Meier straight up. Sharks retain on Panarin and move him to whatever that final team is.

This only works obviously is a retained Panarin is worth more than RFA Meier.

Who can add a 11.6 million cap hit mid-season that Panarin would actually want to play for? It's fun to discuss these scenarios and exciting players but we really need this break to end lol.

Or for Drury to just trade for Barbashev, Motte & Nick Holden like we all know deep down he will (and I would be ok with)

The 'lets trade Panarin' schtick has gotten a bit out of hand. He's not getting traded in the middle of the season.

There's a tiny chance he gets traded in the offseason.

It's not impossible but it'd take many happenings.... Starting with Panarin having another poor playoffs.

He has not played anywhere near his capability.... but lets not forget, what Adam Fox looked like last season after he signed his megadeal. He turned it on eventually... lets hope for the same.

I tend to agree but the media pumps the tires on this one lol

Kane wouldn’t get PP1 time
The team needs a Barbashev , Mikkola , Acciari more . They are all on one team

In a hypothetical scenario, where cap weren't a thing, I'd be fine with trading Othmann and a 1st for Meier. Cap is a thing.

The cost in acquiring Meier, isn't the issue.

Or we can go full TB and have Panarin on LTIR for all of next regular sseason.

Great until he got hurt?

Panarin has looked like hot ass for most of the last 2 seasons.
