Rangers need a RW who can take faceoffs. Put that guy with Chytil and Panarin, let him take faceoffs but play RW. Horvat fits the bill but he'll likely get a 1st as a rental, we wouldn't be able to re-sign him, and he'll be one of the more hotly contested TDL guys

I'm in the camp that faceoffs don't really matter much and get talked about more than they have an actual effect on the game, but Chytil being at 38% is egregious enough that it bears consideration for fixing

I think krav and a dump goes for tarasenko
Jones and a pick for a kulikov type

And we move on until the off-season when they dump Lindgren.

Who?

Why? Who's replacing him?
Whatever combo they need of their scrubs + retention to fit Tarasenko.

As far as Lindgren, they can't afford him with only a 1M cap bump and the way team is structured. He was always going to be a cap casualty. It's been gone over a lot of times. They can probably keep him if they bridge Miller and Laf but that's problematic going forward. $15-16M for Laf, Chytil, Miller, backup goalie, 2 depth D, and a couple depth forwards. Not enough money.

People have mentioned it a bunch of times. Doesn't mean they are right.

Goodrow will be gone before Lindgren.
Lindgren with a year @ 3M + RFA after will actually get you a pretty decent return. If you see Robertson up before the end of the year, then you know that's the plan. He doesn't yet deserve it but he's who they want to slot in.

Goodrow might get a mid round draft pick if he gets anything at all. It's a cap world.

Who cares what they will return in trade? Is the point to collect assets or to build a winning team?

Robertson hasn't gotten so much as a sniff of the NHL yet. Even if he's makes the team next year, he's not remotely close to ready to replace Lindgren.

Not good.
Why? Jones is a dime a dozen 4A offensive defenseman. There's a million of em. Some pan out. Most become Adam Clendening.

Krav would be annoying but it solves some short term problems and he's really been JAG this year. Always a threat to f*** off back to Russia too.

You can't keep everyone. I suspect they'd flip Lindgren for a younger replacement if they could and not a pick or prospect.

If it makes you feel better the more likely replacement is Kandre Miller, who is pretty good.

Closing the book on three young potentially valuable assets for one playoff run of a guy just coming off IR.

Not the direction I’d be taking the team in.

But then again I don’t fall for the rental trap in general.

I don’t think the team should be done with Jones either but he was drafted by an administration that doesn’t live in the dark ages so this staff probably doesn’t have the time of day for him.

Huh? I’m confused on the bold
We didn't really lose that much. It's just a projection based on our current roster.

Cuylle was brought up, so his cap hit counts. Blais was sent down, but on a conditioning assignment, so he still counts against the cap. RB posted the numbers, but basically, Cuylle will probably be around for the next 2 games, which will be 4 days on the roster. For those 4 days, he will cost about 17k total. Once he is sent down again, our projected cap space will go back up to almost where it was before.

Lmfao. You act as if this team employs zero youth. Its so disingenuous. “Closing the book on three young potentially valuable assets” — keyword: Potentially. Acting like Zac Jones is some stud prospect and this staff is too dumb to realize it — I mean c’mon. There is also the very real possibility that Jones becomes nothing more than a bottom pair defenseman in the NHL and Kravtsov becomes an average middle 6 winger OR goes back to Russia at some point. Meanwhile adding a Tarasenko and RoR, proven successful players in the NHL could* lead to success. It works both ways.

There isn’t a great fit for Kravtsov at the moment. There is more competition LITERALLY on the way. Jones, they clearly don’t see someone they can trust even on the 3rd pair in limited minutes. He isn’t getting PP time here, not even PP2 time here. Miller owns that time now. So where does he fit? I know you have all the answers and one of those retorts will be ‘well naturally we should be trading Jones and Kravtsov for young NHL players that fit our needs’ as if that magical perfect trade partner automatically exists.

Friedman saying the Blues will be sellers. Tarasenko, ROR, Barbashev, Acciari, Mikkola. All can help us to varying degrees. Armstrong is a good GM. He will be able to clean up at this deadline and retool with a solid core that hes got locked in. I like Tank & ROR for the Rangers but I dont see us being the winning offer for either guy. Barbashev is an interesting second tier forward, but last year looks like a fluke.
What's hilarious is we'll pay more for Tarasenko or Barbashev than what they paid us for Buch lol.

I don’t see how you afford both Tarasenko and ROR

I’d much rather go the route of Barbashev and another bottom 6 guy. Detroit has bottom 6 pieces and Maatta as a LD option

Retooling won’t help the Blues much unless they can also move on from Binnington’s contract.

1st Jones + Kravy for 2 rentals would be a ballsy move lol not likely to be well received here. You could convince me if the team knows they are going to lose an important piece next year. But that’s 2 Cup winners for guys the team has no use for and a surplus 1st. And it’s probably the only way you could even the playing field with Boston.
Calling one of two 1sts a “surplus 1st” makes it sound far more disposable than it is. Is Schneider a surplus defender? We’ve got a bunch in the system... but that’s semantics I guess. its not like you called it an extra. Hahaha.
Two prospects and a first THIS YEAR for two rentals? I wouldn’t do it. You want to make it our 2nd that becomes a first if we win the cup? Not as bad, because those two players are far from a guarantee and anything less for that price is a big loss on that trade. IMO of course.
