I actually think his thought "process" is that Panarin is such a liability with turnovers that he needs a solid 2 way (Zibanejad) guy to help battle those issues.

Panarin - Chytil - and who ? It'd have to be someone like Vesey or Kakko.

The issue isn't Chytil, it's Panarin.

I certainly understand that thinking, but the more I think about it, the more I think Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov could work.

Chytil has greatly improved in his own end this year. He still makes some mistakes, as any 23 year old will, but there have been more than a few games where I came away impressed with his work in the defensive zone. You would need to make it clear to him that he is always the low forward in the defensive zone and he should never be covering the point. He sometimes tends to rotate away from center in the defensive zone and let a winger cover for him.

For Panarin and Kravtsov, the biggest point you would need to impress upon them is that they both need to backcheck hard. When the puck transitions from offense to defense, Chytil is likely to be caught on the wall as he is doing the most digging for pucks. Panarin and Kravtsov need to neutralize the opposing rush until defensive structure can be established. Panarin is actually a very good backchecker because he is so smart at reading the play and knowing how to use his stick.

I know this is not Gallant’s MO, but you would also want to control the matchups more. Ideally, you would see Trocheck against a top line, Zibanejad against a second line, and Chytil against a third line.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Montreal wants Kravtsov

Do we prefer dealing him or picks for rentals like Monahan and Dadanov at 50 off

If they claim Hunt they waive Blais
So do you change your mind ?

Nope. I don't want Hunt. At least Blais isn't used on a top 6 spot like GG experimented at times with Hunt..and we know how much GG loves to recycle old lineups over and over that don't work.

He was (and also saw PP time), until his play was so bad that not even GG could justify it.

Don't want either of them anywhere near the team.

That was only for 2-3 games though, Hunt was seeing dozens of games over the last 2 seasons in the top 6.
I understand, just highlighting to point out that GG doesn't even deserve credit for that as he'd done it too. Don't forget it looked like Blais was penciled on for first line RW at one point this preseason, as well.

Reactions: The Crypto Guy
Hughes with #30 for the Debs. Book this guy for 50 goals and 100 points for the next decade. He's getting better each game I watch him.

Fn sucks.
Yup. People complain that the Rangers don't give enough time to our young players and site Hughes as an example of how to do it. If they actually watched a single second of him play from the moment he stepped on the ice he was fast, dynamic and hungry. He got more time cause he was too good not to give it to him.

Exactly. He only needed to get stronger. And he knew that. He dedicated himself to strength conditioning and now is bordering on superstar status.
But even when he was getting thrown all over the ice 2 seasons ago, you could see the skill right out of the box.

Pffft Kakko's on pace to surpass 23pts for the first time this season
It's crazy really. These two, today, as we speak, aren't even remotely on the same hockey planet.

Giant steps vs baby steps.
